Game doesn't start

I’ll start with the technical stuff:
Windows 11, latest update as of 17.05.2024
Ryzen 9 5900X
RTX 4080 - 552.44
32 GB Ram

Yesterday I was playing WoW Cataclysm pre-patch without problems. Today, the Game doesn’t open. The application starts, but it doesn’t come to the foreground and I can hear the CPU cooler spooling up. When I click on the Screen where it should be, it goes fullscreen with a black screen and the windows loading indication on the mouse. Clicking on the black screen turns it white, and the window for a not responding application opens. The game doesn’t start.
I then tried every WoW (Retail & Classic), where it was the same.
I’ve updated Windows and drivers, didn’t help. I’ve removed Interface & WTF Folders, didn’t help. I’ve re-installed the game(s), didn’t help. I’ve closed any overlay running in the back (x-box and geforce), didn’t help!!!

I don’t know what more I can do.

Sophos was the culprit. Should you have the same problem, go to their support site and search for World of Warcraft specifically. There you can find a guide on how to whitelist the game.

Having said “I don’t know what more I can do”, I found what more I could do…
Unable to Play Was a big help. I have sophos anti virus and it was the problem. It decided to stop allowing WoW to function as it needs. I’ve whitelisted WoW and now it opens like I would expect.
