Game is really bad looking now compared to newer high graphics games, will it get an overhaul?

It’s unfortunate but a lot of the time you sort of have to ride the tide, so to speak.

I took a very long break from the game and getting back into the swing of things proved difficult. So much had changed and so many of the players I used to hang around with had quit.

I’ve since made some new contacts and even managed to bring over two individuals from elsewhere but it can definitely be disheartening. I can’t go to certain parts of the game world without a flood of nostalgia hitting me.

Not everyone has a high end processor. I can run WoW, BDO and a WMware with no issues.

WoW engine is not what you think it is, it is multicore, actually look at the load. Sure it might not be evenly balanced but you can’t also do that, that’s not ho these things work.

That’s an urban myth. The WoW that shipped was NOT based on the WC3 graphics engine.

I’d wager the current graphics engine would look nothing like the engine that shipped with launch WoW. Name one raid MMO that doesn’t struggle with multiple people in the same small area.

The thing with the comparisions is single game vs a mmo.
Sure wow could get ultra reslistic graphics. But doing so you have to sacrifice performance.
Wows strenghts have never been its graphics(even tho i have no issues with it) but how fast phase and good it feels to play.
There are indeed better graphics mmos out there. But they feel a bit more clunky or slow phased compared to wow.

WoW already has issues with performance for a ton of people in Raid when there are a lot of Spells going out at the same time, now imagine this with some UE5 Raytracing BS, enjoy your 5 FPS if you’re not running a 5090 Super.

But… but… Unreal Engine 5 is the solution to all the world’s problems.

True, my bad forgot about that part.

Warcraft should not lose its cartoony aesthetic in my eyes and these two games have none of that.
Maybe if you have a better example but if you want it to just be the style of those two games thats a hard no from me.

I don’t know what you mean. Minecraft looks terrible, yet it’s still a popular game. WoW looks the way it does because of its art style, not because of outdated graphics. Yes, some older zones are outdated, but in my opinion, the new zones look up to date because Blizzard has its own distinct art style for this game.

It’s the same with League of Legends and DOTA, for example. Those games haven’t drastically updated their graphics over the years just small improvements here and there.

What exactly are you expecting? A Cyberpunk-style World of Warcraft running on Unreal Engine? Because if that’s what you’re hoping for, it’s not happening anytime soon.

I mean the old zones are outdated… there are ultra-low poly trees and such. But nobody spends any real time there so who cares?

Everything from BfA on has been pretty amazing in terms of environmental graphics. None of this is outdated, but it does have an intentionally cartoonish, saturated, simplified style.

Either you vibe with it or not, but it does make WoW very slow to age vs other games. Anything that tries for realism looks terrible just 2 years later.

(That said; more NPC models would be nice. The clone armies are a thing, and the constant re-use of the same creatures is a little tedious.)

The engine is pretty old at this point and they min maxed everything that is left in it.

People confuse the art style with graphics fidelty. You can still have the same art style wow has but with much higher resolution models with lot more poly. Sadly wow is never going to get much better looking because they would need to port the entire game with every asset over to another engine which will not happen. There is not enough demand for it to justify the work it requires and it would not gain more market share. The game is old and on its last leg.

This reply is a pile of nonsense and assumptions, for the primary sake only to disagree on these forums because you feel like you have to- like many other people here. Refrain from posting if you don’t know anything about the game, which you clearly don’t.

It’s not that. It’s the uncanny valley and non-perfect animation that stand out horribly in realistic games. For example, if a cloak’s animation is exaggerated while running in WoW we don’t pay that much attention. But a similarly unrealistic animation in a game with realistic graphics stands out. The character idle animations at their current exaggeration would evoke a feeling of uneasiness with realistic graphics.

Wow has one of the best graphics out there. The art style is one of the reason I still play this game. It is great and does not age badly.

This had been said since the game was pretty much new.

If graphics were such an important feature of gaming, games like Minecraft, Roblox and Stardew Valley wouldn’t catch on. Yet they did.

It’s a personal preference thing anyways. I don’t enjoy looking at naturalistic looking games. I prefer cartoony, soft visuals with brighter colours personally. WoW and Overwatch are quite perfect visually for my preferences.

Also, at this point my computer i pretty rubbish quality anyways. I haven’t been able to afford upgrading it since 2020. I am happy it still run these rubbish games at least.

WoW’s graphics has been evolving a lot since vanilla.

And stop lobbying for Nvidia.

The graphics are fine. The artstyle is great. This game doesn’t need ultra realism or anything. If you don’t like the artstyle and you can’t bring yourself to prefer gameplay over ultra graphics, then just stop playing the game then?

It’s great to not have to chase the bleeding edge of graphics upgrades to play a 20yo game.

Cartoony/stylised is not bad or outdated. It’s a deliberate choice unlike your beloved soulless photorealism, the perpetual chase of which has resulted in poor performance and blurry, forgettable visuals.
