Or because their social circle (guilds, communities…) simply collapsed and they were left alone in a game they were used to playing with friends
Or I know of one case (though there are certainly more out there) that quit simply because the raised hardware requirements going from WoD → Legion simply would have pushed his PC over the edge and he couldn´t afford to upgrade it.
I like the art style/graphics of wow. My only complaint would be that the Dracthyr human form to me doesnt match the aesthetic of the game. It looks a bit disjointed as if they belong in another mmorpg.
I like the art style of WoW. I really don’t like the realism thing, I’ve seen various mock ups of what it could look like and it’s just not wow anymore.
technology moves faster than the previous year by each new year.
when the video games moves to another level of realism in graphics in the next few years , people will go after them.
But since you dont want to accept this. then please look at this video in youtube.
its not perfect . but even this is better than wow graphics even in its cartoony style.

JUST LOOK AT THE TAUREN AND THE SCENE INFRONT OF HIM FOR A WHILE
If by style you mean archaic and out of date then maybe suitable as a retro art form. Personally I wouldn’t mind all that if the game was a little more accurate in the way it displays things. Like an outfit that doesn’t go all the way through a mount. Just lazy design solutions. And the excuse because for some reason an old engine has inherent style qualities unique to this game is wearing a touch thin when the game insists each time there is a new expansion I should upgrade my computer. Having jumped about three or four times to upgrade in my years playing I have never seen the reason why.
Personally I think the game looks old and dreadful and dark, and dreary and in serious need of a major rework, if only to get the continuity of story correct. The game is old and its had its day. It really needs trashing and a new updated version released. Or just dump the current game to mobile and call it a day. It looks old. Really old. And it plays old also.
I just said I don’t think people will suddenly quit wow in droves, because of a lack of graphical fidelity, that would have happened years ago, high-end graphics aren’t the biggest selling point, look at minecraft, among us etc.(raking in millions/billions).
Having a distinct artstyle can be of much more value, the video you posted makes it look like random open world rpg nr.999999.
However, I think the default UI and all the addons make WoW look really outdated and unattractive to new players. Blizz should massively improve the default UI and unbloat all classes/specs so that we no longer need WA, BigWigs/DBM, Hekili, etc.
This seems true as recently two of the people who added me as friend told me that they were on the verge of cancelling their subscription as all of their previous friends stopped playing .hopefully they will find my company better and stick with the game .one can hope
The graphics engine is stuck in 2004 yes, but it’s the last priority to be improved in my opinion.
Instead of trying to fix something that isn’t broken as the old words of wisdom goes, instead fix that is broken. Such as the ancient WoW code and the game engine which only allows single CPU cores to be used by the computer, when all modern computers of course have numerous cores. An Intel i7 14700 has 20 cores, an Intel i9 14900KS has 24, and all cores are unused by the game except for only 1 of them, which obviously impacts performance drastically.
My suggestion for Blizzard to put resources on updating the WoW code and the game engine as soon as possible so that it support multiple cores, the game is not that optimized currently and it does impact performance even on modern high-performance computers. Blizzard could also update the general code so that the game can run without much issues for years to come.
Writing this mostly considering that the WoW game engine has it’s roots from Warcraft 3, and that game is obviously even older than WoW. WoW desperately needs game engine updates. And they have to deal with it sooner or later anyway, better to do it now instead of later or not at all.
You can’t.
You can’t “update” or rewrite the engine to use more cores.
Well, sorry, you can, but it will take more ressources, money and a HELL amount of time, than any company would be willing to invest.
When you pay for everyone to have the same PC specs as you do.
Until then. Suck it up sweetcheeks, Blizzard have done extremely well with the graphics as they stand and see no reason to suddenly wipe out 90% of their playerbase just because you want to validate buying a very expensive PC.
And no one ever said that graphics make a great game apart from people who don’t know about how videogames work.
“You can have your shiny polished turd yeah. But it’s still a turd.”
