Game not launching

Won’t be able to tell for sure until after another day or two as the problem at times seems to be entirely random.

Still disappointed that it takes a small riot for them to act on something first reported years ago, which has been plaguing users every other patch.

I have redone my packet capture today and based on the IP addresses involved I think Blizzard have fixed this. Today I connected to 137.221.64.7 and 2.19.117.80, both of which were not responding correctly yesterday as you can see during my previous packet capture.

For anyone who wants proof, here’s a capture from today showing how things are supposed to work

It would be nice if Blizzard confirm the fix and that steps have taken to stop this happening again, as this has happened on several occasions.

@Blizzard as mentioned, I am happy to make my captures available to your engineers for analysis if this is of any use, please let me know.

Yes, seems to be fixed now. Thanks!

Hello folks, I hope y’all had great weekends!

Unfortunately we have not been informed of the specific steps that were taken to work on this issue, and in all honesty I highly doubt that such information will be ever delivered to us to provider in the Forums. Should this change however I’ll do my best to post again here

That said, whatever has been done seems to have indeed fixed the problem so crossing fingers there shouldn’t be anymore a situation where the client takes so long to start

As of now the teams do not require any further information, things are still being monitored though so if anything else is required I’ll make sure they are aware of your offer!

Hi,
Can you take a look at the graphics freezing, crashing and reloading issue please?
There has been an open thread for nearly 4 weeks with no blue response.

Here we bloody go again… Seriously. It’s that devops issue of make a fix, but don’t embed the fix so it just comes back again… None of the standard suggestions are working… so far, tried stopping via task manager, restarting battlenet, opening up firewall (ffs), repair, but we went through all this in the last little patch so I’m well annoyed to be here again!

just marking another reaction here.
this happening on and off last couple of MONTHS. starting as early as somewhere June.
Been trying to boot the game for about 1.5 HOURS today and no hope to see it launch at all.
Even waiting for 30 minutes (not the 5-10 min ppl are saying it would require) and still looking at a ffing background.
memory stays at ~1840 kb, cpu 0. tried clearing battlenet cache from ProgramData folder, rebooted 3 times, ran a scan&repair. excluded the entire World of Warcraft folder from my AV.
what do people have to do nowadays to launch a game normally. And the lack of communication is worrysome aswell. But its like talking to a wall with blizzard

Same issue for me.
Click on “play” and nothing happens. Game launched in task manager taking around 9mb memory without processor use. Event wait for 30 min does nothing.

Tried the following without success:

  • Uninstall
  • Repair
  • Update drivers
  • Run as administrator
  • Block IP range (As explained in another post)
  • Run directly the .exe in the retail folder

I am really desperate by how blizzard is handeling this issue…

Does anyone has nother potential solution to try please?

Today after receiving a sweet but unhelpful reply from blizz, I took three steps:

  1. backed up my addons and then deleted them all from the interface folder and removed all recent cache files from WTF as well as all addon data.
  2. added the IP addresses to firewall (but I’d done that before and it didn’t work)
  3. turned my router off, waited a little while - made a cup of tea and then on again…
Connected immediately. So another couple of things for people to try…

Next night. Again game doesn’t launch, tried all these fixes from yesterday, nothing, rebooted everything, nothing. Seriously this sucks. And so does the response from the gamemaster… This is not us. It’s not our computers and our networks and our settings.

This is Blizzard and something that was fixed, is now broken again. Let’s hope that the update tomorrow fixes it. Until then, I’d like to ask nicely for two days subscription back please to repay me not only for the days I been unable to play, but also where instead I have had spent MY time, trying to debug and solve Blizzards issue.

UPDATE: no fix overnight.

So far my best ‘workaround’ is to launch wow multiple times with taskmanager open, untill 1 instance goes past the 1.8kb memory

Hello, I am looking for support on behalf of my wife.

Context: We have both played WOW jointly continously for over 15 years on two separate PC’s situated next to each other. Neither of us are technically minded, neither of our PC’s are modified in any way, both PC’s are under 12 months old. We do not have any technical knowledge, experience or modifications to the game beyond a tiny number of addons.

Issue

On Fri 8 August we were both jointly playing WOW. We had no issues logging in before dinner. We logged in again after dinner – we did not make any (ZERO) changes to our PC’s between play sessions.

I was then able to log in fine, but my wife experienced the bug whereby her battlenet would not load WOW, and instead loaded multiple instances of Battlenet, and showed WOW running in the background but could not get it on screen.

On Sat 9 Aug we have tried the following steps to restore service:

  • Run ‘scan and repair’ on the WOW launcher. No impact.
  • Deleted and reinstalled WOW on her PC. She was able to briefly log in, before it crashed. We were unable to log in again after this point.
  • Deleted Battle Net cache on her PC. No impact.
  • Delete Battle Net from her PC. No impact.
  • Tried copying WOW onto an SSD from my PC, copying it onto her PC and trying to play WOW using an SSD USB drive. No impact.
  • We have done multiple (>20) restarts of her PC each time. No impact.

We cannot get WOW to load under any circumstances, from either a C Drive installation or a USB SSD Drive installation – this is despite it being a copy of my installation on my PC, which works fine on my PC.

We can log her in, on my PC to her Battlenet account, and WOW loads for her on my PC.

What we cannot do, under any circumstances, is get WOW to load on her PC using her account, despite multiple reinstalls, following all the advice steps we can online and desperately trying any tip we can find to get WOW to work.

There are ZERO technical reasons I can think of for this to have happened. We have not modified her PC in any way, we literally stopped playing WOW to eat dinner, and its been broken since this point and refuses to log in. We get multiple instances of battlenet showing as running, but nothing seems to load.

Please can you help us – we’re utterly desperate for ideas here.

My wife and I were in the same position as yourselves, except my game would not launch when hers would.

Whatever commercial antivirus software you are using (not Windows Defender), try adding an exception to the executable wow.exe file in the retail game folder on her PC. This fixed the issue for me.

So something really odd has happened to me, when i load mop classic or classic anniversary realms, im unable to launch wow, I have looked a similar forum that has my issue, however they had it last month and couldn’t reply since the thread is old, i have tried the methods of launching the game, looked into task manager, did all the %appdata, c:\programdata removed possible corrupted files, scan and repaired 5 times, restarted pc but nothing seems to work and I think it’s just a wow issue, BUT retail seems to work completely fine, only the classic versions of the game are not working for me, even when i have tried all the methods that were recommended to me. if anyone can tell me how to fix please do <3

I am currently having the exact same issue. Have also tried all of the above to fix it with no luck.
It worked just fine earlier today. I closed the game and went to get some food, when I came back I couldn’t launch the game.

EDIT: I tried to leave the process going after clicking the launch button (instead of closing the process when it didn’t launch). After about 10-15min the game suddenly launched.

I think the game is going crazy in game as well as my friend who managed to get in claims to be seeing people go on and offline like constantly.

The same thing. First, I disconnect. Then I click the play button and nothing happens.
It took me about 7 minutes to log in.

Weird, i’ll just leave it on then and see what happens, I thought maybe its an addon issue perhaps? but don’t wanna uninstall and reinstall if that isn’t the case lmao

Edit: did anyone have a battle net update earlier? maybe that’s what caused it, not 100% though
