I’m just curious, but do any of you high levels (50+) go to low level zones to gank people 30 levels lower than you? Currently trying to level up and I am getting ganked by a level 60 Rogue (I am level 25). He has ganked me 4 times now. The same goes for people your level waiting till you are at 20% hp or less fighting mobs, and then they come and gank you at the last second.
I main a Rogue, and the last thing I want to do is embarass myself ganking people who can’t put up a fair fight. If I want to gank a mage, I make sure he is yellow, I let him drink, show myself to him, bow, then I stealth again, and we begin. Surely that’s more fun, exciting, and a test of skill than mindlessly ambushing a person 30 levels below you.
I am just trying to understand what is happening in someone’s mind when they do this. Do they think they are really good at ganking? Are they just IRL a-holes that feel good about ruining someone else’s enjoyment? I mean, I’ve tried being a douchebag in WoW, thinking I shouldn’t care about other players, but I just can’t. I feel bad immediately. I just can’t understand how people can be such a-holes and not feel ashamed or embarassed that they have to grief in order to feel good or enjoy the game.
So, why do you do it?

To stunt your progression. You’re an enemy trying to get stronger, what better way to postpone that by making you run back to your body over and over.
If you don’t like it, there’s always retail with the option to disable war mode while grinding. Otherwise you just need to deal with it. I know it sounds horrible, but that’s just the way it is.

No and if I see someone doing that I kill them.
But any level of player that attacks me first will die and also if they are killing an NPC im not willing to share, they will die too.
Edit: Was standing outside Mara yesterday and bunch of lvl 40s attacked me 1 by 1. Dumb move, wasnt going to play.
Your post seems a bit weird. Two things I can identify:
-
People ganking other players which are of grey level in my book is just being a douchebag, aside from extraordinary situations, there is no possible comeback for a lowbie in those situations. I categorise these people as someone who REALLY needs as many drops of superiority in their life as possible to keep away the crippling depression and people who rushed the game to 60, have nothing to do in the game and instead of doing something with their lives they just waste their time griefing other players.

“If I want to gank a mage, I make sure he is yellow, I let him drink, show myself to him, bow, then I stealth again, and we begin.” - This is called a duel. That is not wpvp. Wpvp means ganking, ambushing, fighting for resources, everything and anything is viable and chaos rules. This is the essence and beauty of wpvp. This is NOT to say that people shouldn’t have a shred of honor and do what was stated in point 1.
So, why do people do wpvp and gank others taking advantage of certain situations (already fighting a mob, popped a big CD, etc)? Because it’s fun.
Why do people gank gray level players? Because stupid.

You are playing World of Warcraft, you are within a fantasy world where the faction relations are heated and war effort is ever-progressing. On top of that you probably are playing on a PvP realm, which is catered exactly for Player-versus-Player interaction and for players to engage into combat with one another, otherwise you could toggle PvP option off on your character.
Ganking a lower level, hell even a higher level, is a completely acceptable practice in my opinion. It builds up the world and the attitude towards the opposing faction which exactly is the enemy.

Theres also non PvP classic servers which are an option too.

You can use all kinds of excuses and justifications you want, but at the end of the day the only real reason is that you’re an *** and lack empathy.
That’s all there is to it.
Expecting honor in an MMO from edgy teenagers is ridiculous, though. It’s not going to happen. It would be ideal, but that’s not the target audience.
The target audience is people like the quoted person here.

I don’t go out looking for people to gank, but if I come across you and I’m not busy, I am pretty likely to attack (even if you’re higher level). If you’re grey, I tend to give you the chance to run and I won’t chase (/crack, /flee or a random gouge to the face all see use as warnings, depending on mood), but that’s your lot. If you don’t run, I’m going hard.
If you’re farming something I wanted, you’re not even getting a warning.

Usually if I’m in the zone and somebody is getting camped/ganked I’ll swing by and nuke them - dont care how much lower level they are then; if they think 5v1 is fine or killing a player 8+ levels below them is then surely they dont mind getting killed by me.
I may also kill them if they are plain ignoring me, and continuing gathering/questing - if you see a level ?? you had better run. If they dont I’m all too happy to demonstrate why that would be a good idea.
Having said that I usually try to provide them with a way to escape, and definitively do not corpse camp.

You are wrong and he his right.
PvP in vanilla was about Faction progression and Territory control.
In Vanilla:
if someone started a corpse camping, the other faction they gathered instantly to fight back and things grew quickly. (players will gladly stop the boring quest chain for some animations and maybe even start an Invasion raid at the end and only because it was fun, not for any reward beside good memory and friendship.)
In Classic:
if someone started a corpse camping, no one will care because they don’t have time to spare with others and they must reach 60 and BiS items, as soon as possible.

Like I said, you can use any excuse or justification you want…
It doesn’t change the fact that end of the day it’s simply called being a ***.

It’s a Role Play Game.
Playing an A–h— it’s allowed.

I never said it wasn’t allowed.
Doesn’t change the fact it’s called ***ish behavior.

It’s a PvP realm, expect to be killed by the other faction. Who cares whether you think it’s unfair or not. Newsflash: World PvP is not fair 99% of the time.

If someone is bullying you, find some help or go to another place.

How can u identify some ones behaviour as “bad” “bully” or whatever when it’s the opposing faction you are in war with.
Bullying isn’t necessarily a conduct thing. If you read MOBA guides, most of them will talk about certain picks as being bullies in lane. It doesn’t mean the same thing in a game as it does in the playground.
What are u getting at? some people might love to get peed on while others would rather not?

you see that wrong, you know, when i go out in the world, i see no “levels”, i just meet the enemie.
sometimes i defend a territory for the horde! whatever territory i desire to conquer. if your people cant defend that, it may become the hordes
Some people are pathetic enough to only choose fights in which their opponent is completely helpless. For some people this is the only way they can feel good about themselves.
