Gatekeeping in RP – Where do we draw the line?

Look, darling! All I’m saying is, these symptoms seem to stem from (Goldshire) a (Stormwind) lot (Duskwood) of (Gilneas) Alliance (Arathi) hubs! (Boralus, probably)

So the obvious answer is to repopulate the Barrens.

Of course, the solution is rubbing shoulders with Dust Scavengers, the only solution to bad RP is Jade Witchery.

Is that the excuse we use to stick with Stormwind City these days?

It’s a reason to do neither, but of course, they didn’t go Epstein Island on those kids in front of you, so you don’t care.

Same with encouraging stalkers to find new victims and holding your hand over them when they do, because, of course, they didn’t do it to you.

I’d take a million Dracthyr the size of the Stormwind City statues over RP’ing with Jade Witches and Stalkers

I get that, but at the same time my experience with stalkers in the past few years has been:

  • People move out of Duskwood to establish a new RP hub in Gadgetzan
  • 5 stalkers from specifically their RP hub join them
  • Where do you even find so many stalkers???

So you’ll forgive me if we don’t have the same perspective since I never seem to run into the bogeyman vulpera neither.

I remember maybe 4-5 goblin stalkers from 5 years ago. I haven’t seen them anywhere in 3-4 years. Except for one but he supposedly gave up on it. I’m still not convinced, though.

This is talking about one guy in particular that you extensively allow back into communities just because he doesn’t creep on you specifically. Even though most of the rest of the server who have been around for more than 10 minutes on a female toon have experienced being incessantly followed around by him.

Look, if you haven’t caught up on the 5+ times weird pests have been found in the Dust Scavenger ranks, that’s on you.

You literally let him back into the Horde Discord like a month ago bffr, you just don’t believe it because of course we should forgive something that heinous out of hand without consulting those he continues to victimize xoxo

I think a weakness of the Horde is that over time they lost that “struggling survivors” vibe that unified them.

Often orcs/trolls/taurens and elves and forsaken feel like they are entirely separate cultures without meaningful bonds other than distrust of the alliance but it is a bit meh during truce times, or after Sylvie sent the Horde to the meatgrinder and betrayed her people, or after Garrosh sent the Horde to the meatgrinder and betrated his people, … you get my point.

Clearly that approach did not work well for the Horde, but right now Blizz is doing zero effort to ponder what the Horde still is, and what its denizens are doing.

Oh yeah, I brought him up in edit dw.

You can defend Alliance/Stormwind roleplay without belittling Horde roleplay, btw. It goes both ways of course but I think Rakihu was being more tongue in cheek.

Thank you for having a sense of humor. It made me remember where the ‘quote whole post’ button is.

I wish discussions could stay on topic and not always turn into the usual bashing/belittling/calling out, which at some point has nothing to do anymore with the initial talk and just acts as an echo chamber for the same topics over and over again.

Also: “Oh, but Vulpera-”

Look, if people want to tar every single person who plays X race with the same brush because of some (admittedly very bad) eggs, that’s on you. But also, stop doing that? Nothing kills motivation to play entirely sincere characters than the vibe of “Oh, people are just going to treat me/the character like :poop: , do I really want to spend my energy on that?”

Always worth remembering that a race’s roleplay is much more than its problematic elements. If we refused to roleplay x or y due to offensive players/depictions we wouldn’t be able to roleplay on Argent Dawn at all – or anywhere else, for that matter.

I’m not going to use the specific vulpera example because it feels like it’s been sensationalised over time to the point where I have no clear idea of where the truth’s at.

I hate that stuff, genuinely. It happens with practically every race too, depending on the circle. Whether it’s Vulpera, Void Elves, Goblins, Mecha-gnomes, even Orcs.

I just used that specific example because that specific group has done a lot of gross things OOC. Even if not all of it is true, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and at least for me, I’ve been able to dig out enough kernels to make my own opinion on the matter.

Also if it’s the other vulpera group you mean, they’re still sending me in game mail with vague threats in poor grammar. It’s kinda funny

-The sky darkens, only to be re-brightened with an overwhelming, golden glow. A hammer the size of a farmhouse takes shape in the sky, before starting to descend rapidly, the air igniting around it. There will be no survivors, no time to run and, most importantly, not one iota of mercy.-

Do not use the words ‘egg’ and ‘vulpera’ in the same post. :fearful:

But more sincerely, treat vulpera like actual characters because there are sincere stories to be told with them, and there’s a real possibility that person has had that character for five years now. And even if they haven’t, they’ve still given more thought to that character than just “haha they are funny and/or indecent.”

Also just because someone makes jokes about their character OOC doesn’t mean they don’t take them seriously. I’ve made plenty of :poop:posts with my fox goblin portraying him as a murderhobo gremlin but outside of that portrayal he is actually a somewhat sincere and grounded character with reasonable motivations.

Treat all races with respect OOC. IC you can be kinda mean depending on your concept.

Except gnomes. We must bully those OOC and IC.
