Yeah, the Blizzpost has no indication that this is happening. They’ve just changed their approach to how they’re going to refer to a trans character.
Anyway, I can definitely see the case for gender changes in the barbershop. The barber is basically just a catch-all for entering the character creation screen at this point. They can bleach your skin or put you in some tanning salon, change orc’s postures, and in SL will probably be able to add flesh to bony forsaken, change Draenei tail length and elf ear length, and do whatever it is they do to make sure Druids become orcas instead of sea lions. A gender change really wouldn’t be immersion breaking at this point.
The opening post doesn’t say a single word, it’s just a link. Yet he poses a question in the title to be put before us. Could this Blue Post article confirm genderchanges within Wow lore and would that then in turn mean they could come to the Barber Shop? This is a purely Hypothetical conversation.
I know that it doesn’t say a word about the Barber shop in the blue post. Everyone here does. That’s not the point of this thread. And so what if it doesn’t? The question itself is still interesting. Or are you trying to be intentionally dense in order to end the conversation?
And it’s not sexist to acknowledge a fact of nature. just watch a few nature programs, it’s blindingly obvious. male animals behave differently from female animals.
The fact that humans tend to go against our normal expected instincts, doesn’t deny what those instincts are. Men are generally driven to mate with as many females as they can. women are driven to do the opposite, to vet each male suitor, to make sure she doesn’t make a mistake and end up pregnant with an inferior suitor.
You can’t even see how sexist this is can you? Animals also eat their own young and have no law. I’d like to think humans have evolved past that.
Girls and boys are socialised differently as they grow up, that isn’t an opinion, there have been many studies in to it. Societal and parental pressures tell us how we are supposed to behave.
There is no ‘innate’ feeing that makes me a woman, that makes me like certain clothes or behave a certain way. Have you seen the new body form advert? Those things make me behave in a certain way.
Women can have just as high a sex drive as a man. Men can be just as sensitive as women. Some women are terrible at raising children, some men are great at it.
What you are describing as a ‘gender identity’ is what I would call a ‘personality’.
I don’t understand how we have moved back in to little boxes as a society. No one has been able to tell me what constitutes as ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine’ behaviour without resorting to outdated stereotypes.
And that quiz that is a load of rubbish? Was given to us in a training course by Mermaids, for use with our students when I was still in to teaching.
I really can’t say this any other way. There is NOTHING in the article to suggest anything is going to be in the barbers shop. Unlike the title of this discussion created by the OP. My response was exactly that, there is nothing to suggest it’s coming.
If people want to discuss adding the option to the barbershop that is fine, but the title and then linking an article is a little misleading, hence my clarification. Which would actually just have been one comment had you left it be
sure thing Karen. carry on telling me about my life
You are so privileged you assume you have no innate feeling that makes you a woman… except you’re completely missing the fact that you are a woman and and are comfortable with the aspects of that (assuming from what you’ve told me).
The fact you don’t seem to think your body parts are very very wrong, is an innate feeling that your body fits your gender.
I have intimate experience of gender incongruity and yet you continue to lecture me on it.
must be so great to live in that ivory tower.
It would be in a barbershop just for gameplay reasons.
Anyone offended by placing that function in a barbershop will be offended by something anyway, because they’re looking for a reason to be offended.
We can already change the color of our skin in a barbershop. And in Shadowlands when they introduce proper African/Asian faces you can effectively go into a barbershop as a black man and come out as a white one if you want.
I haven’t heard anyone being offended by that. Because it’s just a gameplay function to alter the appearance of your video game character.
Sure, I as a black woman who has suffered FGM am just so much more privileged than you.
Are we quite finished with the victimhood olympics now?
You are describing a dysphoria. The sufferers of which I have a great sympathy for.
However a change in birth certificate is a legal fiction, originally legislated for as a kindness in the GRA. If it meant you were literally the other sex then trans men would be able to inherit money/titles the same as other eldest male siblings.
It does not mean that we actually have ‘lady’ and ‘men’ brains that make us behave differently. This is an outdated and sexist view, offensive to both men and women.
Men can wear/do/like whatever they want, as can women. Just because they don’t conform to what society says men/women behave like does not mean they are actually the wrong brain in the wrong body.
However as you have already resorted to generic memes I suspect this conversation will cease to be rational one, and will go the way of ones I have had on this recently.
Where I was piled on and was threatened to choke on a certain male anatomy part, made feminine by putting the word ‘girl’ in front of it apparently.
I was told my youngest child should die of COVID (they described how this would happen graphically and with great glee).
And other assorted pleasantries.
I am new to this conversation but it appears anyone standing up for biological reality and standing against stereotypes that harm us all is fair game for horrific insults.
Yes, because people turning into blue mini-Titans in the realm of death is so grounded in “biological reality”, but a female mortal becoming a male blue angel? Perish the thought!
Actually a study found that men and women with identical IQs found that men had more grey matter (the raw processing “meat” of the brain) and women had more white matter (which forms connections in the brain between the grey matter) than men, so that while the end result -equal intelligence- is the same and I cannot stress that enough, how the result is reached might differ between the genders. Then again, that study was from at least 15 years ago, so may have been disproven/revised its conclusion.
So while there may be biological differences in the genders/sexes (forgot which is which I’m so sorry), the net result both physically and mentally is the same, so I guess it is entirely possible for a female to be “trapped in a man’s body”, to use a pre-existing and accepted phrase, and vice versa.
Now I’m going to shut up before I take what is actually an interesting gameplay discussion thread and get it closed due to politics.
That is actually so true if we can change our skin color in barbershop why not the gender it’s an fantasy game and that is a gameplay feature even if you don’t wanna put it in barbershop just make it a magical spell that they cast on you
except you’re not standing up for biological reality, you are actively denying it. the research continues to mount all the time and you really need to open your eyes.

I will apologise on behalf of those who purport to be part of the group I also belong to, it is disgusting that anyone would say such things. it’s completely unacceptable. I would appreciate it if you treated me with some respect though when I am informing you of my own personal experiences and trying to explain to you about things which you cannot understand because you have not experienced it.
btw, a change of birth certificate is not a legal fiction, it is a legal acknowledgement, and the reason trans men cannot inherit things is a legal oversight, not a proof of a ‘fact’.
one small additional note. I would NEVER dream of trying to educate you about FGM so I would appreciate it if you extend me the same courtesy.
additional note: you do not know my race or how my ethnic people have been oppressed and you know nothing about how my private parts may have been mutilated at birth. please think more carefully before you say things. I was referring specifically and solely to the privilege you hold of not having your gender at complete odds with your body. so who exactly is trying to score points here?
