Im not sure if there is an intention behind key depletion , but its one of the major reason of players toxicity and frustration , its also related to leavers , people get so frustrated someone mess up mechanics just for the whole key to get depleted , and then you have to redo the old key , then try again for the new key , then hope you don’t have the same guy that depleted your key in the first place , its like a puging nightmare , its more time consuming , it doesn’t respect your time , at least if i get a leaver or someone who is drunk mid dungeon , i would really be so positive around things , i can even explain whats the optimal way to do a specific fight , which no one have the time to help people improve since hes worried about having to go from 9 to 10 and will probably deplete the 9 also with unfortunate bs on his key again.
Conclusion : no one benefits from key depletion , its a waste of time , if you get paired with players that struggle to do mechanics , your the only one losing , lfg this season have been so quiet , with the m+ changes , keys feel so punishing , the least blizzard can do is fix key depletion , this subject was brought up so many times , maybe one day we get rid of this toxicity in mythic plus , blizzard tend to forget that players want content to enjoy and have social interactions , not frustration and getting yelled at when mess up once.
Key depletion wont solve anything, it will just shift the issue elsewhere. The same problems with not getting keys done will continue. It’s just different problem instead:-
This doesn’t really seem to need a new topic when there is one up already.
Key depletion is a relic from when the system was brought in in Legion.
At the time, there was no NPC to change or lower keys, so instead of being lumbered with an impossible key, it went down a level when you failed. The original system was far more punishing than its now, as a failed key gained a “depleted” debuff, and would give no loot until it was timed twice, once to remove the debuff, and then again to re-upgrade the key.
Now the NPC exists, depletion doesn’t need to, but that’s where it’s from.
However, there is still an argument to be made for depletion, and it lies with and the people that are just playing the game with friends and having fun…
It serves to, as always, not burden the group with an impossible key, as well as “pendl3e in” the difficulty to an appropriate level…
Let´s say I’m Joe Average in the guild Fivebros… we play a few hours together on the weekend when we´re all off work, and we love M+ but don´t aspite to be .1% or even for thet mattrer KSMs.
We run a 4, time it, get a 5, deplete it, run a 4 time it, run a 5 time it , run a 6 deplete it, run the 5 deplete it, run teh 4 time it…
At no point were we massively out of our depth, and simultaneously none of the runs were a roflstomp. Just a normal, challenging but not insurmountable game experience.
Now, why should these people be “forced” to potentially either run the +6 key over and over and over again despite not being able to time it becasue it doesn´t deplete, or lower it manually?
There are a ton of solutions for this issue. It is just that Bli££ard are determined to plough on with an unpopular approach. Keys should only be depleted at the behest of the player imo. By all means give each key a 40 minute CD on a failed group. This would keep a penalty in place for changing a player out.
My personal preference is just remove the timer factor and key depletion all together. It creates a smelly atmosphere that is just not nice to be around when someone cocks up. I see people not wanting to invite players whom they have known for many years because they may loose a key. This part of the game is just not conducive to creating a social environment. The avoided player will never learn the game, and people are developing fewer ties within the game.
Players can either do a +10,11, 12 or they cannot. Stick a leader board up for the best times achieved. The current system is pretty poor from my POV.
alright appreciate your explanation , that’s actually a good point where people needed to swap key dungeons for score , but since key depletion exist , it will make more sense for you to be the one choosing to swap a dungeon but at key depletion cost.
what exactly will be the issues ? i mean stating " there will be an issue somewhere else" means you have at least one issue in your head to come up with this statement , would appreciate if you state it or i think your opinion is pointless a bit , but that’s actually true that this subject is brought up a lot here , that’s why i stated in my description “the millionth time” , in my opinion , i can’t see what would go wrong in a key being depleted , like i just can’t think on one thing , its not fair for people to get their time wasted cause some people in your key , can’t do things right , on top of that you need to push it again and again , apart from a double deplete possibility which happens a lot on 9+ keys.
The biggest problem is the fact that leavers have no respect for the key holder. If the key didn’t deplete, it would remove a large amount of annoyance for the key holder - who is then free to rerun the key at the same level.
Right now there’s no point running your own key - especially high ones cause people don’t want to risk a deplete.
How wide-spread is this problem? I haven’t faced many leavers. And the only time they did, it was reasonable.
The list of M+ groups looking for members disproves you.
High ones…you mean that group of 2k characters that do 15s and higher? Who gives a …, let’s stick to improving the situation for the other 99.9% of the players
That is how it already is for people who dont use their own key. I’ve had to stop using my own key because I’ve been too incapacitated to consistently tank anything above +4.
Last week I kept getting accepted to other people’s +8 and I blew them all up. I just immediately joined someone else’s. I couldn’t even believe people were accepting me.
get your stuff straight man , this is a game , if you don’t value your time , then you don’t need to care about this post , i can see how your opinion gonna evolve , m+ is not made for rewards only , its made for a sense of achievement , what do you get if you time a 12 ? checkmate i guess.
So if it doesnt change anything for pugs(shifts the issue but it wont be made worse) and makes it better for premades, what i hear is thats a net positive. So why wouldnt you want it? In the end something is gained.
