Get rid of Runes

Those still playing SoD probably do enjoy it or are willing to give it a try. I do not dislike Season of Discovery, I just think it could have been so much better if they had thought it through.

I was going to quit, but because they reversed the terrible layer changes I have decided to stay and see it out to 40. I am not someone who rushes content, but realistically 1 raid is not really anything 'new".

You say it’s a lot of work for them to put in and that is true. But why bother at all then? If private servers can add in new zones that most of the assets are already there for in the game files, and add in new npcs then blizzard can’t do this?? Create some new quests with new quest text and objectives ? Surely it is not a mountain of work. For raids and dungeons, yes this takes more work. But would it be so bad to put in a bit more effort and create a classic + experience that many would come back for, bringing more subs to the game?

From my own anecdotal evidence, I can think of around 60-70 individuals who do not play SoD but tried it to see if it was classic + and left when they realised it wasn’t. Create classic + and in my own small circle, there is 60-70 subscribers at £10 per month. Repeat this across all the players who once did play wow and you have brought in a lot more income.

As for hard figures on people leaving SoD, if I had them I would show you. There is various ways you can estimate this and people have done so and shared their analysis on these forums and on other places such as Reddit. Unless Blizzard releases hard figures no one can provide this

then most of the things you said are based on estimates and a small sample size of people you have spoken too.

removing runes will not fix any issues and will most likely piss of the people that do like them, so rather then getting rid of them they are fixing them wich again they have been doing so far.

give them time and keep playing it realy is fun to mess around with.

as for private servers to add certain zones and quests those most often are even more yank then anything we have in SoD and they dont have to pay the wages of the people that do code those, if they do pay them its because they are heavily monotized and you can buy power on those private servers.

and to the fact of previously made money from active subs, they are a public company and will have to show profit numbers to share holders.

Runes would be perfect if kept in a PvE environment.

Disable runes in PvP.

Yes so imagine how much better it would be if Blizzard did it properly. This is what people want when they ask for classic +, not runes.

Your estimation that SoD is the best thing ever created is also based on anecdotal evidence and a small sample size. As we touched on in the prior post, no one has hard data except blizzard. I think the trends show that SoD popularity has not had the longevity we could have expected however. It’s clear you disagree which is fine.

Blizzard has not released figures on subscriber counts for many years. The reason they stopped was because it sent a bad message to shareholders when those numbers kept going down. It is an open secret that WoW has very few players compared to 15 years ago. Still a good amount for an MMO but not like what it once was.
Season of Discovery is not going to bring that back. Classic, however, by Blizzards own admission was much more popular than anticipated and millions returned for it. I think it’s a safe bet to say that millions would return for a real classic +.

There is nothing wrong with experimental seasonal servers, but SoD ain’t classic + lol.

I totally agree!

to each there own but to tell them to get rid of something others are enjoying is just selfish.

i never claimed SoD to be the best thing ever created.
is it fun? in my opinion it is.
is it yanky? yes it is.
Are they working on improving it every time something comes up? yes they do.
i think you massively underestimated the resources needed to make what you want them to make and with no guarantee that they will see a return in there investment.
cause just as you dislike SoD there might be classic players that wouldnt like your version of the game either.

what would you consider to be classic + if its not flushing out specs and adding new content to the game?
cause sure retribution paladin might be underperforming, but its a hell of a lot more flushed out then classic retribution was.
and the new roles for old classes are all pretty fun to play imo.

we are only a couple of months in and have had 2 raiding tiers already with atleast 2 more to go. they have also already talked about having 40 man raids with a SoD twist.

you talk about longyevity of classic when it first came out and i can tell you even if it is a small sample size, people did not have a attention span to stick around for raids then either. they would clear the newest raid in record time do it 3 maybe 4 more resets and would sleep untill the new tier hit.

THIS. Just keep it simple. Give us X slots. Let us pick the runes we want. It would allow for more variety and customization. They tend to overcomplicate stuff for unknown reasons.

Also. Why are they scared of touching talents or skills? They try to balance everything through adding runes like if original classic file was on read-only, when maybe a small talent fix would improve the class without making OP runes.

And why is crusader strike even a rune. Cearly it should be a base skill. Maybe give a book like Commanding Shout if adding something new to Skill trainer is so hard

idk, i like these runes, i wish it would be less of a tbc/wotlk copy paste thing, and some unique rune´s instead

and about the balance, idc i wait until 60 bwl-aq

they just should get rid of dmg mod runes like “master of subtlety” for example

Something about these threads where the backseat “experts” converge to pronounce judgement really irks me. Proclaiming sod a failure. Proposing solutions to problems that are only experienced subjectively. Ranting about dishonest or incompetent devs… the arrogance of these gamers is staggering.

Giving geedback on your experience is fine. Voicing frustrations is all good. But I don’t think Im way off when I say that most of these self proclaimed experts don’t know the first thing about creating and maintaining a game like sod. Sod is not perfect. But its fun. The most fun I’ve had in wow in years.
