There will be ALWAYS a meta, no matter what you do and there will be always meta slaves to it. Doesnt matter if the difference between S tier class and F tier class is 0.0000001% Most people don’t even know why class A is S tier and class B is F tier. They invite class A because website/guide/streamer told them that that class is good.
There was even a nice comic-meme where Blizzard made the “perfect balance” and warriors made a complaint post about changing their class name to battlemasters because in the list they got filtered down to last simply because due to their letter “W” being last in the alphabet.
Well if you check my tanks - that’s exactly what im trying to do and mostly succed - luckily most of 7 classes i want transmogs via catalyst this season have tank specs .
Unfortunately its impossible for me when im still gearing them to 650 and want that 1 slot for gv from m+ - so yeah anything below +6 is just so frustrating atm.
Have you tried to do m0 lately ? Its taking literaly forever to start any group
I don’t do m0. The odds of getting loot aren’t better than m+ and people have no incentive to stay once they get/don’t get loot from a specific boss.
I’m just gearing my alts via Delve vaults and that item that guarantees a map. I’ve just been doing keys on my VDH for fun because I find Delves boring. I don’t try to gear my alts with end of dungeon loot I just play them for fun.
I’ll take Lilith’s side on this. A significant part of the playerbase does play for the gear. Once they have that or any achievements they were after, they unsub and wait for new content. Someone pointed that out by showing the “cliff” in the graphs of participation right after KSM or all portals instead of a more natural exponential-looking curve. It’s also why we have threads popping up from time to time regarding bad RNG in getting gear, and ways to make it deterministic.
Like many things in advertizing, what people think is not the reality.
What actually happens is that while people are getting geared they have a sense of progression. They started doing +2s, now hey are doing +7s… and a some weeks from now +10s.
That feels good. But that is because gear is literally a way to indirectly nerf the content.
100% of the people that consider “rewards” as their endgame are NEVER the people that do +10s the 1st week of a patch. It’s always those that start out on a +4 and slowly progress to a +10.
Once the gear upgrades are over, then the only factor left that will give you progression is L2P. Which is FAR more frustrating and slow than seeing a chest peice go up in ilvl.
That is the TRUE reson.
But here is the thing. There are other ways to give a “sense of progression” other than gear. You can put cosmetics gated on a +15 for example, add titles to top 5%, top 1%, ect…
Then for the “nerfing” of content you simply do it manually. Instead of indirectly. By changing the difficulty curve of M+ from exponential to linear, and lowering the increments by 1% ever 2 weeks or so. To impose a form of inflation.
That way, those that in the past stoped at a +10 will continue to have their “sense of progression”, keep playing the game, eventually get those rewards. And they will beleive that it was all because they were amazing players.
That is what drives player retention. Like it or not.
And I know it does, because it works in PvP. The seasons where they dont do it are the lowest in paticipation. And the seasons with the greatest inflation are those with the highest.
It dosent even have anything to do with spec diversity or balancing. Its crazy.
That’s basically the point Lilith is making. Getting stronger provides a sense of progression.
I always think the game is like IRL exercise, it’s hype when you have measurable progress and are working towards a goal. Sometimes The Paths intersect and progress helps multiple goals at once.
I also agree with him that for tons of people it is just about getting gear for no reason. Although I don’t agree that it’s too hard to get gear.
Currently I think the game is in an excellent place regarding access to gear. I am now even starting to think the people who say to people “You just want gear mailed to you for free!” aren’t even exaggerating.
wow - you just told almost all raiders that they are clearly playing the game wrong because they depend on gearing up week after week to be able to progress instead just playing 24/7 for 2 weeks and then unsub
reality is - if any content doesnt have gear upgrades ? next to nobody does it.
unless its ultra super easy transmog farm events.
but then again - they had to put trnasmog into literlay everything - because if there were some seaosnal events without fat loots/ trnasmog - nobody did them
its is in very good place regarding gearing up to like 650 itlv - yes - but thats mainly thanks to dvelves which literaly shower you with loot. thanks to dvelves early endgame is in very good and healthy positon mainly bcause you can just awaing most of endgame consisting of low m+ keys and normal raids.
you gear though dvevles and then jump to +6 / +7 use overgeared people to carry you - everything is gucci
agree 100 %
after that ? its falls down the cliff regarding how rewarding everything you do feels. epscialy with how gated you are for first few weeks with runed crests caps
