There were no crossrealm in vanilla. Not even in 1.12.
What vanilla had is battlegroups consisting of 4-8 small pop servers. Those servers were combined of likely minded players (pvp/pve/rp never crossed each other) of same language. Since population was low it wasn’t uncommon to memorize some players you encountered.
What we got in so called "classic" is retail crossrealm of whole regional population (eu/na/asia) resulting in total mess of games and non-existing community.
What you calling crossrealm (server grouping without any limitations) wasnt a thing even in wrath. Crossrrealm is a retail abberation which has no place in vanilla.
I’m calling cross realms a way to do BGs versus people on another realm than yourself. I’m glad its a thing as well. Imagine for a second you were playing on a 80% ally server. I’m pretty sure this forum post would’ve had quite a different tone
Oh will you shut up already, stop whining about this. You actually think they will change the current system because of your post? Do you actually think that?
This system is MUCH better. My server in vanilla/TBC got in Ruin BG and it lived up to it’s name. 4 servers, 1 PVP, 2PVE and 1 RP -PVP, wich was my server. All healthy pop before the introducing of Battle groups. Not unexpectedly our BG sucked compared to most others, so the PVPers started to leave. Then their friends left to join them. Problem is most of the PVPers was also PVE ers. Even people that preferred PVE was leaving because our BG was so bad. We was the top alliance PVE guild on the server and still we couldn’t get enough skilled, and far less geared people to fill up the ranks. In the end the guild split and half of it changed server, and what was left disbanded. So basically a bad BG ruined the PVE. I eventually transferred off too. Logged in with an alt in IF during prime time 1-2 years later. There was 3 people in IF. Ruin BG, ruined both our server and probably the other 3 in it too.
Serious question, why does it even matter how many servers are in the battlegroup?
What community are you talking about in BGs? BGs aren’t about sitting at a campfire telling each other adventure stories.
There is really nothing to complain about here, Blizzard were explicit of this being a condition of “classic” before release - no i’m not going to find the link, because CBA.
It’s actually sad the level of dedication made by certain users to defend the bad decisions of a poor, innocent billion dollar company.
You’re completely right. Battlegroups were nothing like this, but no one will engage with that point constructively, because they can just try play semantics with the phrase “cross-realm”.
My advice is to jump ship and let the shills play away.
