I need to choose between those two types of engi and I want you to ask what is the better pick, generally and for a hunter?

check out wow sites that list the difference recipes. Gnomish death ray and some of the other gnomish can be used it you make them, and relevel engineering and choose goblin next time btw…
I was looking on the recipes, but Im not sure what is and what will be good since this is my first character (never played before) and I dont have experience.
You can go what ever, just go gnome. Make all the items you want, and than spec goblin.

You can go gnomish first for all the devices. Get rid of it and go goblin after to get everything.
One more dumb question - if I have for an example 280 skill and gnomish engi, when I change it to goblin will I still have 280 or?
EDIT: Are those gnomish items all soulbound? Or some of them you can buy at the AH or other engi?
First things first, the way you change from Gnome to Goblin, or other way around, is to delete Engineering and starting from scratch again while chosing the other specalization.
This means that you will start from 0/300 again, which answeres your previous question.
Some items are BoP, Bind on Pickup, and these items will require you to have that specalization when crafting them. However, they dont require you to have that specalization when you use them, which means once you crafted them you can switch.
Most people start with Gnome. They craft the Battle Chicken and Deathray and delete their Engineering, so they can start over. After this they go Goblin so they can create the rest of the items, but also much because they now can craft their own Goblin Sappers.
