Got any Forsaken RP tips?

I haven’t roleplayed a undead since TBC, and even then that wasn’t very long. Anyone got any sound advice?

Is there anything specifically you were looking for information on? There’s a lot to cover!

https://wow.gamepedia.com/Forsaken is a great start for a lot of questions about the history and culture of the walking dead.

Thanks for the link, have read through quite a bit of it. Was mainly looking for general tips, stuff someone who has played one extensively might look out for. Just don’t want to have to double back on my character half way through.

Well, what kind of advice are you looking for? How to RP a Forsaken, their names, their culture, where they stand in the Horde, their emotions, so on.

In which do you seek advice or tips, or is this overall Forsaken RP?

Grim Gest, cough.

I can give you some general advice, sure!

  1. You are Dead

Forsaken do not feel much in the way of pain, fear or love. They are muted, like trying to walk through a field with a cloth across your eyes. Cutting off a living human’s arm might cause them to die of shock and blood loss alone; doing the same to a Forsaken is a minor nuisance. They don’t need to eat, drink, sleep or breathe. This can sometimes make them feel disconnected from the living - to some, it makes them jealous, even hateful of the living. Others might gravitate toward friendships with the living, hoping to keep their old selves around as long as they can.

  1. Dark Lady Watch Over You

Sylvanas Windrunner freed you from slavery from the Lich King. Not every free-willed undead joins the Forsaken, but those that do hold the Dark Lady in extremely high regard. You may not agree with every action she takes, however - even Nathanos doubts her on occasion.

  1. Death To The Living

Your character is extremely unlikely to be anything other than an enemy to living humans. Your character would not have attended the Arathi gathering just before BFA (as they’d probably have been shot dead if they did), which means either you have no living relatives or no desire to see them again (or vice versa). They consider you abominations to be purged, and assaulted your home under Alliance banners. The war effort in Zandalar is often lead by the Forsaken, mostly for this reason. Peace is a lofty goal to a Tauren or an Orc, but a Forsaken is unlikely to see it the same way.

In terms of characters, there is a lot of space. We’ve seen undead Deathstalkers and Dreadguards in the military, Apothecaries capable of making and using the infamous Blight, or civilians and refugees. There’s a lot of space available for a Forsaken character - serving the Dark Lady and her military, or just trying to get by.

How can we forget the grim gang, although… aren’t they a mixed guild?

I do however recommend that you write yourself up a character sheet and at the same time read those links sent by others. When you feel like you have your character down go RP it out.

Slowly you will begin to get use to your Forsaken character and you will know exactly what you want for your Forsaken and which direction to take him. There are many possibility that you can do. But my suggestion, try RP your character out first.

Let me get a little ways in before shilling for my guild, sheesh!

@OP, I’d recommend creating your character and seeing how they fit in the world. Most RPers are very forgiving of new RPers, allowing you a chance to change things around once you get an idea of what you want to play. A lot of the time, these interactions can help shape your character in real time. : )

Info orc, crude and direct.
Someone should make the guild list post again.

Behave like a Forsaken.

Don’t be a Mary Sue.

You’re literally choosing one of the most morally reprehensible races in the game, so take pleasure in that, embrace it. Don’t ruin it by basically acting like a human.

I think a Forsaken who struggles to reconcile their personal morality with their loyalty to the Dark Lady, who saved them from mindless damnation is an interesting and perfectly valid approach to take to undead RP. It’s good to make sure people like OP realise there isn’t a right or wrong way for their character to respond to current events as an individual.

Thanks everyone for the posts, wow you are fast! Was thinking about my character being an ex criminal of lordaeron, spending most of his life in prison. He sees his undeath as a second chance to serve his people. I imagine him adapting to his new life quite well, not having had much to do with the living world while being locked away in life. Not sure if I should make him a soldier or just a civilian yet. I’ve always wondered about t he forsaken civilians, with not having to eat or sleep, the need to farm or anything, what do they do with all there time.

Perhaps yes, anything works if the narrative is written particularly well but I’ve witnessed far too many boorish Forsaken role-players with bum cheeks of glittering morality that are bereft of any character flaw beyond their peeling skin or slightly rotting extremities.

Just because they take it to an extreme that doesn’t match the narrative doesn’t mean it can’t be done well or, more crucially, that it shouldn’t be done. We’re not the arbiters of what’s good and bad (though we often try to be), and it’s a take on the Forsaken that’s already established by Blizzard themselves.

But, on topic, that’s a cool idea already forming OP. Good luck with it & with finding the RP you’re looking for.

There are plenty of options for Forsaken RP; however, it depends on which route you wish to go. Each forsaken is unique in terms of personality, their goals, loyalties etc.

Would you choose to RP a forsaken who was raised during the third war or would you choose to RP a forsaken who was recently risen? Where would they have been born in life? What would you choose for their origins?

Each class has their own niche in the forsaken society.

Warrior: you could roll a deathguard, mercenary, knight or a squire.
Hunter: Has different routes you could take, i.e. marksman, trapper, merchant.
Rogue: You could try your hand at writing as a deathstalker, pirate, outlaw or mercenary. Like the other three, you could roll a simple civilian role.
Priest: Is an excellent choice for portraying a mender, perhaps an acolyte within the cult of the forgotten shadow. If your toon takes a more neutral approach, perhaps they are a member of the Argent Crusade.
Mage: You could walk the role of a scholar, perhaps a Tidesage(If you’re Kul’tiran).
Monk: Again, could be used to portray a mender, mercenary or combatant.
Death knight: Could be used for necromancer or be a standard DK. Likewise the warrior, this could be a good choice to portray a fallen knight(as an example).

Of course, these are mere examples of what you could potentially do(depending on what class or route you decide to take).

As the others have said, there are plenty of people in the Horde community who will help out new RPers. I’d say, establish your character a bit in RP and look into finding a guild.

Another tip that I’ve found to be helpful is to sometimes start off as an apprentice character, because if you can find a solid mentor IC, you’ll be able to learn as you go along and it can provide you with some solid character development over time.

I hope this helps you out a bit. :>

Hey, thanks for the post. I think I’m going to try to build off the character concept I mentioned above. I think it lends itself to my lack of experience in playing a forsaken. My character being a prisoner for most of his life, not having the chance to have much of a profession forces him to start a fresh slate in death. This will give opportunities like you stated above, being able to start from the bottom, to learn from the ground up. I think it probably makes sense for him to maybe try and be a soldier and go the death stalker route if that. On the other hand I was thinking maybe could of tried to become an apprentice apothecary, but I’m not sure if there are many of those around, and even fewer that would be willing to teach my character. I do love the idea of him being an acolyte of the forgotten shadow but I’m not sure how I could get it to work with him. Would he have to of been a priest in life? Or even a magic user? Or could he just learn fresh from death?
