I never post on the forums (or at least very rarely) but i felt for my sake and many other peoples’s experience i felt i had to at least chime in, even if it does nothing to help!
TL;DR: Dungeon finder is invaluable to those who do not have all the time in the world anymore. It does not affect the experience at all for those who want to avoid it.
I was very much looking forward to WotLK for this one feature more than any other - the player base of classic are those who grew up with the original many years ago who were probably in school, or studying in college and had plenty of disposable time.
Today, the majority of these people who continue to play Classic have jobs, families and lives outside of the gaming world and cannot commit as much time to the game anymore - the minority who have complained about Dungeon Finder are the elite of the game who have no outside commitments to the real world and have a lot of disposable time to pump into a game (especially and hour or two forming groups for dungeons, replacing people after wipes, running back to the dungeon after deaths etc etc.
This is “time” that myself and many other people do not have these days, in the max of two hours per day i have to play i manage to get dailies done, post a few auctions then im gone. If i have a few more hours say, on a weekend, then i will spend some time levelling up a char. I certainly don’t have the time to dungeon, nevermind raid.
I was very much looking forward to all the manual labour from getting a dungeon group going removed to enable me the full experience to the game as a player who doesn’t have all the time in the world anymore.
To be honest, i don’t understand how the Dungeon finder tool effects those who are complaining - it doesnt harm their experience, they can still look for a dungeon manually and fulfill that social experience with friends or those who dont want a “PUG” experience.
But for those, again, that dont have the time the Dungeon Finder is INVALUABLE to experiencing the game as it once was - which is what i thought classic was going to be instead of a watered down version of what we remember. Both the bad and the good made the experience what it was all them years ago - lets focus on the fact that we have to deal with Gear Score Spammers lol
For me that looks very nice. Thanks for the work. Will there be the posibility to filter the results in the group browser? Like open roles, only solo player/groups, min group level (range), white/blacklist for group text etc.
New dungeon finder be like… Hopefully Ybara will sell lot of boosts to be pleased with the absent of RDF…
thats exactly why WotLK was successful expansion. The most successful in MMO history… people back then still had jobs and everyone appreciated the RDF… the “hardcores” could totally avoid it and play with their guild…
The no RDF for WotLK is a way the “elitist jerks” try to force us to play like they want…
You need at least three people to agree on the kick, and that’s less likely than you think. It would take some unreal level of disparity or other major issues to actually trigger a kick.
The whole point of teleport is not having to stand in the main city, but being able to go on with your business anywhere in the world, doing a dungeon if/when you feel like it, and being able to go back to whatever you were doing without having to HS to the main city instead. Not having RDF makes people more likely to spend more time in Dalaran than having it does.
So… you’re worried people will spend more time in Dalaran if we get a system that allows for teleportation from places other than Dalaran? And that never struck you as somewhat contradictory?
And when was this LFG tool proposed by Blizzard ever be introduced to WotLK? Double standard much?
imagine being an adult and your social life depends on an MMORPG… how miserable and sad can it be… people taking seriously the “social aspect” of MMO lolol. Reminds me a funny picture I ve seen a while ago. There was a group of friends in a pub having fun together with their girlfriends and a fat guy in the corner alone thinking “they dont know I have Illidan warglaives in wow”…
If you want “social life” live your actual life… if you are a cave rat in your basement and bragging with your “server reputation” I really feel sorry for you…
lol why? Why not have a “choice” to participate in social aspect instead? Forced Social stops to be social… Is like tell me that I cannot drive my car if I dont want to talk to GPS…
I mean, because it’s not really a choice. RDF by itself would be fine because there’re still raids where the meaningful social experience actually happens. But if you were to add Raid Finder as well, for example, you’d destroy a lot of guilds overnight.
Please bring back RDF
Imho the whole social aspect started to decline with the release of Raid Finder. Having to waste 2 hrs every day traveling to the dungeons with my characters has nothing to do with more social activity…
I am against raid finder… not because of social issues but because it devalues the immersion of dangerous world and powerfull villains… I believe there should be only 1 raid mode. If I kill the “retarded illidan” breaks my immersion… I dont care if there is a “heroic version” of a boss… if there is a “retarded version” its a problem.
And mind that I am casual and never actually killed illidan, not back then and neither now. But I believe that the fact it exists make the game better… even if only a few % manage to kill him
This was always the proplem … and to have me tanking, you need either to be a Gulidie or have the TP implemented - ergo not having LFD (realm based would be my preferred, not Xrealm) makes the tank shortage just a little bigger.
Please don’t blindly listen to those who just want retail’s dungeon finder tool thrown into classic. You and I know that classic was and is supposed to be different, so it’s great to see how much you respect the integrity of classic even if you make changes to better the classic experience instead of just lazily trying to make it play and look like retail.
Nobody uses the current RDF. There, I can generalise too. But I would tend to believe that I’m right on said statement, hence why it’s getting improved.
But how is this version of the dungeon finder tool stopping you from finding and creating dungeon groups just as fast as the automated tool would have?
Your whole post sounded dramatic.
Just because there isn’t automation and an instant way to teleport to and out of the dungeon, doesn’t mean you suddenly can’t play because you had to spend at least 5-10 mins travelling.
