Guild Bank Missing Items Bug - Aug/Sept 2024

They’ve now unpinned the thread relating to this on the US forums so expect this one to go the same way soon, too. Which suggests (if we didn’t already work it out for ourselves) that they’ve washed their hands of it and that’s it - we’re not getting anything back and no acknowledgement of the huge hit a lot of people have taken.

There are STILL plenty of people out there who don’t know what happened … and in fact don’t even believe it. If you look out on social media elsewhere, if you mention it, most people react as if you’re making stuff up. They can’t believe Blizzard could do such a thing.

I guess we can take some comfort in the fact that we know the truth and, as more and more bugs come to light and don’t get fixed, more people will come to the realisation as well. I’m still playing because I enjoy the game and enjoy interacting with my guild, but I’m no longer spending anything more than I have to in order to do so, and my perspective of them as a company has had a major shift.

I already stopped playing 4 months or so ago and deleted everything Blizzard related, and just thought I’d check in to see if anything had changed. Apparently not, so this will be my last ever contact with anything related to Blizzard/Activision/Microsoft. You’re filthy scammers, and I don’t give money to scammers.

What might even concern me more is the total and dead silence from all the major pc-gaming news sites. Even AFTER they’ve been notified about this issue. For those who still care: keep on notifying your fave online gaming news site about this. I am pretty sure if any did really day this online, Blizz will suddenly recognize this “bug” and start issue a proper apology and comp. SO: Keep on report this everywhere!

Hi,

just for info.

I think, there are far more guilds than 1000+ affected. :expressionless:

We have never seen a blue post. :dracthyr_yay_animated:

Something that is apparent after many months have passed:

  • either zero, or at most one or two people that I missed? probably zero … got their guild banks fully restored. We would have heard about it here if there had been any real restorations;

The resolution of this issue appears to have been :

  • guild bank wiped - zero restoration will occur, except:
  • if you submit a ticket, you will probably get nothing, but you might get mailed a copy of one or two low-value items that remained in your guild bank inventory after the wipe.

It is weird that this topic was quickly shut down, whereas some other data loss bugs are rapidly responded to (some - things like achievements, reputation, honour points, map exploration, guild rep, lost items from AH / mail, lost items (including from TCG and older real-money paid items) tend to be just ignored). Real-money items purchased recently from the shop, and billing issues, seem to get a quick response.

The guild bank data loss, in retrospect, seems to have been ‘swept under the rug’ from the very start. The question is why?

Exactly. Why?
I think we are never going to know. They keep this quiet for a reason, and this reason is apparently so ‘bad’ that they are never going to change that secrecy. Our complaints are obviously less damaging than if the truth got out.

I recently heard that characters that were impacted by a bug that locked access, received a Marvelous Meeksi Pack (worth $65/€65) by way of compensation and apology.

I cannot fathom why the decision was made to completely sweep the guild bank fiasco under the rug, to refuse to do any manual restorations when proof of the items lost still exists, to neglect to offer any form of apology, and to withhold any form of compensation - when potentially years worth of progress has been lost. But free mount packs are being handed out for what is, relatively speaking, a minor inconvenience?

It is completely disrespectful of the player’s time put into the game, it is sending a message that a player’s items and progress are in no way a priority to safeguard, and above all it is a gross abuse of player loyalty.

While I am happy compensation is being offered to some players whose access was locked recently, the fact that victims of the guild bank fiasco haven’t received even a second of game time by way of apology only makes the entire situation even more of a travesty.

I have absolutely no faith in the idea that Blizzard care for our items or progress.

I suspect because the two things are different.

One (the guild vault issue) is evidence of their poor data management and storage which, if it became something they “acknowledged”, would essentially be confessing to one of the worst things you can do as any company - which is not be able to keep your customer’s data safe.

The other is an access issue which, although bad, doesn’t really have any long-term impact.

If you viewed Blizzard as a bank … if a bank has an issue which means you can’t get your money for a few days, or even a week or more, then it’s certainly newsworthy and lots of people will be up in arms, but they know when they do get access, their money is still there.

Alternatively, if a bank suddenly starts wiping out entire accounts and then, even worse, states they can’t give compensation because (a) they don’t know who was affected or (b) by how much - then that is a whole new ballgame that would involve much more serious issues for the bank.

If a bank had either of those issues … which is the one you’d think they’re more likely to hold their hands up to, and mollify people with compensation, and which is the one they’re more likely to try to keep as quiet as possible?

An just like on the US forums, this topic got unpinned after 6 moths. Not a single update since the original post…

With “support” like this, no more money from me to Blizzard ever again.

Surprised it took so long, to be honest … three weeks ago the US one was unpinned.

Another indication on how Blizzard view the non-US :stuck_out_tongue: (although to be fair, it does have it’s benefits :joy: )

Just posting on the off chance that anyone has gotten any guild bank restores in the last week or so? Anyone?

Yes, they have already buried the GB along with all the missing. I think, forever.

Hi,

sorry if I seem rude for addressing you directly without knowing you.

I don’t like writing in foreign languages, especially on such sensitive topics.

Just a short question.

I´m missing your last post, where you posted the following link once again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5ZLT6boX3s

Did you delete it yourself ?

You mean this one?

For info … this thread then got closed because apparently we’d been repeating the same messages over and over.

Personally, I can’t find a repeat of any messages … perhaps I’m missing something?

Unless they mean the “me too” and messages of support for each other. In which case they’re going to be busy closing a lot of threads …

Edit 2 … for those wishing to still join the conversation we’re unable to have here, check out

and the continuation:

You may need a level 10+ character on the US realms in order to post - this can be done by creating a free US starter account and levelling a character to 10+.

The conversation seems to have run its course. Reposting the same messages over and over is considered bumping. Thank you for your understanding.
