Since the release of Patch 8.1 a key feature has been removed from the game for Guilds.
When you view a guild and you select “Player Status” players who are “Offline” are now only shown as “Offline” we no longer receive the status “Last Online: 1 Hour”
Now for some guilds out there you might not worry that this change has gone through but for raiding guilds who like to keep on top of inactivity, I now have two options I either use the old /guildroster interface that you still haven’t removed from the game since the release of the new interface or I go down each member manually and find out by clicking on each one when they were last online.
How as a guild leader without using a deprecated feature that was not mentioned in the patch notes am I supposed to manage inactivity?
Word of advice, don’t go down the Microsoft Windows / Office 365 route of not displaying all changes in your client builds, It’s a chaotic nightmare when fan websites have to go through all the undocumented changes we should freely have this information made available to us instead of having to find it.
Communication is key and changes no matter how big or small absolutely matter especially to those that have to constantly upgrade to make things work.
I’m just another annoyed player that has to put up with these silly changes.
Edit:
I can see that this topic was moved from “Customer Services” for help with “In-Game Issues” to general topic, I guess it got noticed by a moderator who felt this isn’t needed in the customer services section and doesn’t warrant a reply from anyone.
This isn’t a suggestion, Key features are being removed from the game and nobody at blizzard is providing any actual explanation.
I agree fully with your main point. I think Blizzard should be working to strengthen social structures in the game, of which guilds are the cornerstone, but instead are repeatedly damaging them. They shot them in the gut with the 8.0 changes, and this sounds like a further stab.
But in terms of where you post it: CS forums do not deal with development decisions. Customer Service agents are not authorised to discuss development decisions. Posting this on the CS forums does not make it go anywhere. Whoever moved it did you a favour. At least in General, the post has the chance to get some discussion and being added to the report from Community Managers to devs.
I looked for a thread I remembered, and found Part 2 of it here
Thank you for coming back to me Grainne, the unfortunate side to bringing this up on the US forums is whilst I can log in and browse my US based characters I cannot post on the forums without an active subscription to US WoW, which is just ridiculous the idea in this day and age is and I believe World of Warcraft is one of the fewest if not the only game out there that enforces the policy that you need a separate subscription to browse and post in a forum.
Games like FFXIV which are primarily based in Japan just have a standard PHPBB forum which has “Japan section” “Europe section” etc but that’s beside the point.
I don’t know what the mind set is for 8.0 but it just seems someone is throwing them down a cliff.
So I just found out about this change today. And I must say it’s most inconvenient while trying to run a large social guild like mine. I would love the see this being changed to the old setting again, to be able to see with a quick view, and even able to sort by it, when members were last active.
That said, I also miss the possibility to sort by 2 columns, like for example level and rank, this was possible in the old guild ui, you had to click it a few times before it was properly working, but it made things so much easier.
To add another issue, which was mentioned in main’s post with the link, it bothers me I can’t set specific rights anymore for all ranks. Like officer chat, which my officers can read, but I’d like my senior members to read it aswell, but they can’t, since i am not going to give them officer rights (very bad experiences with kicking people in the past).
This is dismaying news indeed. I also liked setting specific permissions for different ranks. I only have a few friends in my guild at the moment, but even then it’s annoying already. I would like to see this change reverted.
