Storytelling night - IC
With the turning of the seasons, the gentle lady Albanne of Suramar calls on all adventurers, travellers and other well-travelled people of the Horde! Come join her in Thunderbluff to share stories of adventures, tales of faraway lands and the heroic deeds of global renown; share folktales of your culture with your fellow brothers and sisters of the Horde.
“You learn a lot about a culture by the stories they choose to tell. What makes them ticks, what they value, what they care for.
When I was a girl, the trolls were but the monsters in our stories. The creature in the dark, catching the bad child who did not heed their elders’ warnings. And now? Now we are allies, destined to bleed and heal together for the sake of our people.
We, the Shal’dorei, have been isolated for a very long time. But now we are coming into a different world. A new world. A world that we know very little of, my dears. So for one night, let us all see the world through each other’s eyes instead.”
OOC-
Many will recall the storytelling nights of Orgrimmar, as well as I remember the Thunder Bluff ones of my past server. I miss both of them, and it is my pleasure to invite you in revitalising the tradition; sharing a peaceful night of stories and socialising.
When: The 17th may, at 20h Realm time.
Where: In the tent of the Hunter Rise, in Thunder Bluff.
A few rules of decorum
• The event is open to all the people of the Horde, regardless of the political affiliations; I’ll ask you to keep the conflicts with such for after the event please. (Snipping or attempts to outdo someone by being an even better storyteller are welcomed though!)
• Keep it orcish, it’s an event for general socialising and openess afterall
• If your story is not interactive with the public, keep it under at most 30 minutes please. It’s a very long period of time to ask of the audience (Given they’ll be asked to remain respectfully quiet), and we do wish to give everyone time to say their own story!
I want to write a folktale, can you help?
First of all, that’s wonderful! Original stories are what makes the storytelling nights so interesting in the first place. And I do have a few pieces of advice to share for you to create your very own troll/orc/tauren/etc. folktale.
• First, think of what quality your culture values. Would it be strength and honor for orcs? Would it be cunning or willpower? Respect to the authority, elders and Loa perhaps? It will be the quality your hero will demonstrate or gain in your tale.
• What kind of antagonist would appears? Of course, you can have the classic enemy of the nation but your hero can also battle less common foes, such as the system, destiny, or a representation of something your culture dislikes.
• What kind of moral would you deliver at the end? “One shall always listen to the priests”? “The smart one shall win the day”? “Honor is the only way”?
