This has been quite the day for me.
walks in to engage in a discussion about Dalaran RP.
sees weāre talking about child RP, AGAIN!
Nope. Bye. Stop diddling kids.
I can say with a lot of certainty that NO person in the PCU has any grand aspirations regarding Roleplay to do anything but focus on having the best RP experience they can.
The idea that an rp server is some kind of Game of Thrones style tug of war for ooc political power is dumb concept that was made up by people who havenāt claimed any grass, its a hobby!
I regret coming back to read this thread
I thought kids were the other thread? confused
Fellow RPers, lets switch back to Dalarans discussionm please.
I was thinking, it would be cool if everybody agrees on some Plot foundation for RPing in Dalaran. A starting point so to speak. Maybe we could create some hooks for that and try to see if it works.
Tell me your thoughts or proposals. How RP in Dalaran can be turned to a brighter side of things.
Itād be neat to see a Kirin Tor or magic centered guild
While I do not RP a mage and much prefer warlocks for RP and gameplay; I do love the idea of the character progression in terms of becoming a skilled mage.
Iād assume Dalaran would be perfect for such a concept.
Better yet, a cross faction mage community with no authority position. A kirin tor guild would only inevitably begin interfering in the daily goings on of old and new visitors to the city, leading to unnecessary and frankly avoidable drama. This would lead only to another city and hub being emptied and people creating threads like this about wherever they move to.
Yes, if there is a guild with an open RP approach - that would be cool.
Mage competitions can also be a thing.
I also promote the TRPe addon. With it help we can all agree to use a currency. For example we can create Dalaran Coin, and make it in such a way that it canāt be duplicated or copied, there is an option for that. (If somebody is interested I can explain how to do it). And for example any items on markets or any spellbooks or anything - can be bought only with Dalrans Coins.
That would make trading RP so much more fun and it will in fact stop being imiginary but real. In order to get those coins, there will be players like (Task givers). Upon completion their taks, you recieve certain amount of Dalarans coins.
The task might be something like - Go to Stormwind and find an alchemist who will be interested to sell its items in Dalrans market. So the person ICly will go to Stormwind searching for another player alchemist who will ICly go to Dalaran to trade or sell goods.
It is only a rough sketch for what it can be. But damn, as for me it sounds interesting, and this approach makes it more realistic.
THis approach can work if majority of players agrees to use one currency. For example we can create 10000 nonduplicated coins, spread them amongst RPers and thatās all you need for a start.
To add on to this, a Violet Warden themed Guild or subsection of a Kirin Tor guild/Community would also be pretty good, lets just hope they are better than the NPCs at stopping break outs in the Violet Hold.
Iād like to see a Kirin Tor guild that doesnāt fall into the usual pitfall traps of Kirin Tor guilds in the past where they act as mage police in places theyāve no authority in for the sake of trying to powertrip on other RPers asking for their portal license.
Iāve been on Argent Dawn since 2012. A decade later, weāve yet to see a good one.
oi u got a loicense for tha inchanted broom?
I have not witnessed any kirin tor guilds and perhaps I spoke giving RPers too much credit - a magic-police was not what i imagined. I was thinking more scholars & researchers who would embark on adventured in the quest for more magic knowledge and artifacts.
This would be very powerful, but unfortunately Kirin Tor draws the wrong kind of crowd historically. Whatās worse is the blatant half-baked understanding they have of the magic lore they claim to enforce. Ill thought out headcanon that doesnāt work with the setting is rampant.
thatās why we as RPers who care about our realm are here to ensure reasonable standards are met.
I can forgive someone new to RP or the lore (be it micro or macro).
Yet the ābadā ones are those who refuse to heed advice. āItās my sub, I RP how I want.ā
Absolutely. Thatās why I started the Lore Tidbits Thread and the minerals thread ā so we can share neat findings with one another and have a reliable resource of facts at hand.
Iām especially invested in magic lore myself, as thatās what I primarily RP. Thereās loads of cool stuff in The Last Guardian () for example which sheds insight into fundamentals of magic. What does an arcane blast, or a fireball, etc. do to a person? And so forth.
But when you have the self-righteous ones who treat their own headcanon as though itās official lore and refuse to believe otherwise? The community suffers, and Kirin Tor as a whole gets an absolutely terrible reputation in RP. So much so that my character refuses to speak with any who proclaims themselves as one because 9.9/10 theyāve all proven themselves to be absolutely incompetent and approach RP in bad faith.
I used to literally run a guild like this, basically Dalaranās equivalent of Special Forces/Service.
Was a fun time, but then BfA was announced and interest in neutral stuff died overnight. If I ever came back Iād be tempted to reboot it.
Now thereās an interesting sounding concept, what sort of events did you run?
How can you say all this yet get caught in 4K telling someone to commit neck twist until snap?
Sorry gamer, that simply wasnāt a very big brain move of you.
Werenāt the Kirin Dal generally good eggs? I never did much RP with Valven & Co in person, but I donāt recall any major grievances with their lot either.
If a Dalaran based scene is where the winds are blowing, Iād suggest diving deep into the core of what the city is all about. Magic. Be it the establishment of aspiring novices receiving tutelage from more experienced magi, or the study of discovered artifacts and long forgotten spells.
I always rather liked the (arguably headcanon-ey) notion that much of the Highborneās arcane insight ultimately faded due to the Sundering and the following times of hardship, only to trickle back into the modern world as lost knowledge is uncovered. For better or worse.
My memory of them is very neutral. Nothing that stood out as groundbreaking, but I donāt recall any reason to hate them either. Though where Kirin Tor guilds were concerned, perhaps being average is a blessing in of itself.
