What is Harassement in Wow? Example:
For me its for example when i get whispered by someone and i put him on the ignore list, but then he logs on another Character and keeps whispering me. And this guy is doing this every day over several months. (That didnt happen to me)
Would you say thats harassement? Probably yes.
So, maybe u know the Addon BadBoy. This Addon can Filtern your Chat from Spam. You can use Keywords and you will never see a Text in a Chat with these Words. Sounds great? Yes it is.
For example me, i dont want to get boosted and i dont like the ridiculous /2 Spam for these things. Its as annoying as watching a good Movie and it gets interrupted by ads that i dont need, because i would never buy these products.
So i use Keywords like the names of all these Boosting Communitys for example, or just the word “boost” etc.
You remember the guy from the example from above that logged on different Chars to be able to whisper me. He knows i dont want to get whispered by him, because i ignored his other Chars, but he keeps doing it.
And whats happening in /2? The people who do the annoying Boosting Ads are doing similar things. They know i cant read their Spam because of my Addon that Filters Keywords. So to make sure that i can read their ads they just Change the words in a simple way: Instead of Oblivion Community its OblĂ®vion or OblĂvion or OblivĂon etc etc etc.
So they know i dont want to read this stuff, same as i dont want to get whispered from the guy from the example from above, but both keep trying to reach me and this is just harassement.
I dont need Feedback or Comments to this Post, but maybe some of the boost Spammers understand that it just makes no sense to do this.
If i use an Addon to block these Boost Ads, i dont want to buy it!
It makes absolutely no sense to Change your Macros.
You can keep Spamming, i give a fck, but dont harasse people like me that would never buy a boost.
Indeed it doesn’t. It’s extremely unlikely someone will go “Oh, that was so clever, slightly changing the ad like that, I think I’ll get that boost from them now!”
Has he run out of levelled characters now and creating new ones? If so, badboy has a plugin called BadBoy_Levels you can set that to block whispers from characters below a level you set. This way he would have to level a character just to harass you, he would hopefully get bored.
On the ad spam, Yes, I hate it too. I just add new phrases to it as the spammers get more creative. Badboy is probably in my top 3 favourite addons.
Its technically harassment. I doubt it would be deemed as such by blizzard tho considering Addons are not supported and with the options in the regular game you couldnt block said trade messages anyhow so i sincerely doubt the ToS would apply here.
The whisper thing only happened to me once. And it was for a lvl boosting when i was lvling up an alt. And i’ve lvled at least 6~7 characters in the past few months, due to exp bonus.
I’m surprised people get so much whisper spam that they decide to post on the forums about it.
Maybe i’m just lucky i didn’t end up with more of these people.
This is why I don’t use the addon and just /leave 2. Harassment is not you seeing things you don’t want to see. Harassment is someone singling you out and doing things specifically at you when you take measures to prevent it. These boosters aren’t targeting you, they’re just trying to get around your “adblock” and there’s nothing wrong with that, especially when you’re using an addon, it’s not a functionality implemented by blizz.
Maybe you’d have a case if there was a feature put in by blizz to ignore words, and they were circumventing that. But they are circumventing the use of an addon, and Blizz before has interfered in situations like this and standing against the addon use.
Find it appalling how Blizzard doesn’t allow us to block people at an account level… would solve this issue and bot spammers making new characters constantly.
i take measures to prevent it and they are targeting persons who blocking them via addon. so yes, its harassement. and again the important point: IT MAKES NO SENSE TO DO THIS BECAUSE PEOPLE THAT BLOCK BOOSTER SPAM WOULD NEVER BUY BOOSTS
It’s not harassment because they aren’t whispering you about it, they’re doing it in a public channel. It’s ridiculous and this is why I don’t have General, Trade and Local Defense on. My point is that it’s more like public nuisance and like IRL that’s why it isn’t taken so seriously.

Boost spammers know that they get ignored and therefore they make new characters all the time. I’ve tried it as well.
It is essentially harassment as they do anything to ensure their message pops up on your screen, use /2 use /y use /s, EVERYTHING but the sad thing is that here everyone is always going to defend boosters.
People here do not understand that in a game you should play for the items and not pay gold. They are so addicted to WoW that they believe WoW to be the real world. Therefore they think it’s normal to pay gold for items cause you can do that IRL as well. They forgot that this is just a game and you should be gaming to get the rewards and achievement. Nevertheless just let this thread die as this won’t go anywhere even though you are right.
