And as I said, we shall see what comes out of the courts.
A culture in which one gender is given priority and mocks, belittles, and takes advantage of another is one that deserves to be challenged. You’re really stretching this as far as you can just to maintain this idea that we shouldn’t believe sexual abuse victims.
Attitudes like this are exactly why abuse victims find it so difficult to come forwards, because not only do they have to fight against the workplace status quo, but then also against naysayers who’ll come up with any reason not to believe them.
Despite how far “frat boy” cultures might reach, that does not mean they should be swept under the rug as “a work culture you don’t feel comfortable with” – especially not at big companies like Blizzard. It isn’t - or shouldn’t be - normalized.
Frat boys are cringe anyhow
Really weird hill to die on, all things considered that they aren’t sued for weird workplace culture, but more like for constant sexual harassment that lead to 1 death.
My dude. Someone killed themselves over this “culture.”
That ain’t okay.
These aren’t individual allegations, this is the State of California’s Department of Employment, following a two year investigation. They wouldn’t go ahead with this if there wasn’t more than enough proof to substantiate their claims.
Maybe some of it isn’t true, or maybe parts of it have been exaggerated, but I think people have a right to be angry that Blizzard’s internal culture has allowed it to get to such a bad position, where so many voices are saying “yes, these things have happed and continue to happen”.
Roj isn’t a dude, she explicitly said so.
I’ve read the articles and these things are mentioned in them as well as to why they are being sued. Which is why I mentioned them. The sexual harassment and leading to a suicide is things we shall find out after court. All we know is one person has tragically lost their life and other than that it’s a he said, she said thing.
Dude is gender neutral.
This is something people need to be aware of and may the out cry of those who are the user base of this game and the fandom that have been with this company for over a decade have their voices of disgust heard so that transparency, change and a better future can be what pushes this company going forward. I know that it is easy to wonder if this forum is the right place to put it, but Argent Dawn Roleplayers and gamers are a community in its own right who has been let down by the franchise that has brought us together in the first place. Let your disappointment be heard and remember to stay conscientious to those who may have experienced things related to sexual harassment, abuse and suicidal thoughts in your responses.
No, it’s not.
At least, not to me, and I would object to being called “dude”.
Oh no
Anyhow
Well too bad, dude. Because for me it is.
Dude.
Ok dudette
It’s irrelevant anyway. Somebody at Blizzard did kill themselves, and while we can’t definitvely say if the actions of Blizzard employees was the reason behind it, if it was something that was known by the victim then it surely couldn’t’ve helped their mental state.
Don’t turn this into #DudeGate.
This is the key-factor here, IMO.
One can believe (or not) that private companies have a degree of freedom in how they select their employees, one can even believe that favoritism is okay to an extent (because other companies do it? it is not an argument, really) but violating fundamental workplace rights and in general creating an environment where your higher ups treat you in the way described above is unacceptable, and should never be accepted or you risk normalizing it.
there’s definitely a case to be made for ‘see what can actually be proven’ but let’s be real there’s undoubtedly gonna be enough
yeah 100% i don’t get the random refusal to not address someone in a way they don’t want to be
seems kind of childish/petty
Though a much much less severe example, refusing to respect someone’s wishes regarding how they’re addressed is symptomatic of the same problem of ignoring/silencing women.
Lintian says she isn’t a dude? Then she isn’t one, regardless of whether someone thinks it’s gender-neutral or not.
I’m agreeing with the blue dragon poster
I love these one off crossovers when we can unite under blizzard going full harrasscore
