I wish Blizzard would stop introducing (sometimes interesting) new concepts and then ditching them entirely when it’s time to introduce a brand new, completely unrelated thing.
The lore team has commitment issues.

CHUMPION!! AZEROTH NEEDS YA!
But yeah we could probably stil had azerite weapons and stuff
It’s a modular design. System that can be completely scrapped without breaking the game as a whole.
Not without breaking immersion though.
Azeroth just discovered oil and its citizens have now given up on it?
Talk about neutered goblins.
I believe we just used it up during BfA; Azerite was Azeroth’s blood crystalizing after the titan soul got stabbed, but we fixed the wound already at the end of legion and the bleeding stopped. The Azerite in BfA was hence a very limited ressource that got used up during the war.
Let’s not pretend that nobody would be trying to dig a new hole down there to start extracting some of it again.
It was never valuable, Magni scsmmed us all to feed his addiction.
You’d need to injure Azeroth again to reach her blood… that goes a bit far even for goblins… if even possible without a big titan sword.
Valuable? Yes. Will it provoke a fight a faction keeps using it? Also yes. Also who knows if any shards are even still around considering Azeroths wounds have been closed (as in who knows how much we absorbed lorewise. There may only be a couple scraps left around).
And if anyone siphons Azeroth directly it would be deemed a suicide attempt as they would have to fight the players (this includes the faction leaders who would be condemned to death on the spot)
Why would anyone want an old currency for an obsolete system to still be relevant?
I don’t think it would be beyond some goblin syndicates.
Hell, they have a giant gun sitting in Azshara doing nothing; retro-fit it to be a digging laser!
Because he’s looking at it from a lore perspective.
Not a game system perspective.
He means the Azerite lorewise. Not as a currency. Lorewise the stuff is the most potent stuff one could get their hands on considering its potent enough to rewrite existence itself (zereth mortis)
please god no.
no more azerite
Lorewise we concluded the expansion, it would be nice if they got rid of the damned sword though.
That’s a weak reason and that’s my main criticism about how the lore is handled.
“Let’s close this chapter, move on and never mention it again”
That sword is of a great importance.
Removing the sword might cause a new ‘eruption’ of Azerite to bleed from the gaping wound that would be left. Could be more story; without the stupid system.
A pool of Azerite might make Silithus look good for once.
Or bring C’thun back to life.
YES. please get rid of that sword… ive been saying this since BFA
we all know why the Sword is still there, its draining the power of Azeroth, but can we get a move on with the story now please and have it removed either by a villian or Magni or a titan
I like the sword, it’s an improvement considering how old Silithus looked like.
