Headcanon 2: Electric Boogaloo

Why are you implying that an Old God can’t use anything else but Shadow? Magic isn’t tied to one’s inherent being; anyone can use everything. Like undead holy magic, or humans druidism. Old Gods using Decay is not exactly a difficult thing to grasp.

Warlocks using 2/3 schools of magic is not impossible. Dreadlords doing the same isn’t impossible either.

Why would it be? The meme about Med’an isn’t that he uses every type of magic out there, it’s that he’s a kid that manages to beat an old god-infused master of magic and everyone else (including former Guardians) bow down to his supremacy.

Med’an is Med’an because he’s Med’an and thus better than everyone else, not because he uses a bunch of jumbled magics.

also edit: I know what you’re saying in regards to the Nightmare, and I do (in fact, despite arguing) agree. While the lore around it is a mess, I feel like it’s tied to Shadow more than Decay. Not that my beliefs change much; that piece of lore is entirely inconsequential to any RP we do.

Yes. Yes, it did.

A realm of decay and corruption, yes.

So if the Emerald Nightmare is a “realm of death and decay”, then why do all Nightmare-affiliated beings look like Old God minions? Why do all Nightmare-corrupted druids use shadow magic and not death magic?

Or maybe we’re better off ignoring that one Afrasiabi comment? Just a thought…

Counterheadcanon: The Scryers are nominally the blood elf administration but since TBC have been steadily frozen out of more and more areas due to their closely maintained ties with the Aldor that continue to this day.

Instead, per Rommath’s direction, the majority of BElf functions on Outland are dealt with by Sunfury and Voren’thal’s health keeps him from raising any objections worth entertaining.

To be honest, it is more feasible that the Nightmare is indeed a realm of Shadow (mixed with decay), seeing it is no longer the direct counterpart of the Dream.

To make it a individual, Tichondruis. He shoves necrotic, demonic and shadow magic about. The wc3 dreadlord is now also using magic of those three schools. summoning demons, necrotic aoe/aura and a shadowy sleep. However most dreadlords do fit into using mindmagic/sneaky shadow magic and necrotic vampirism/raising undead. From memory I don’t recall much infernal summoning dreadlords in wow.

My headcanon is that the emerald nightmare is gone forever so what does it matter

That’s fair. I’m sure Dreadlords can seek to master more than one magic, given their immortality and aptitude for magic overall they have the time and opportunity to, as well.

Me’dan, in contrast, was what? 20 years old?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with mastering different forms of magic. The problem comes in how it’s presented narratively (Med’an).

I didn’t say there is.

I’m agreeing with you.

Don’t you dare talk :poop: on my boy like that

A good contrast example is Vol’jin who picked up monk chi stuff during a lesser known novel you’ve probably not heard of, to use alongside his shadow hunter/shamanic stuff, which no one really had any issues with because it was presented appropriately.

What’s this novel you speak of? Sounds really cool :scream:

Looks like a reference to the cult classic WoW novel Night of the Dragon.

Big recommend.

I was able to read day of the dragon easily enough, but I dropped night when it came to the raptor army, dear lord it’s worse than the memes.

However the issue there lies in that shadow magic has been presented as both necrotic and shadowy for dreadlords, darkfallen and dark rangers (and yes this is why I have a issue in the shadow separation).

There’s really nothing else left to say except new lore > old lore and Shadow = Death is dumb in my opinion

And it’s my opinion that it’s not. And new doesn’t make it better.
To me it’s like separating chronomancy and arcane into different schools.

But I’ll respect that it is indeed your opinion and we can agree to disagree.
