Help me understand PVP ranks

I just decided to start doing some PVP with atleast rank 10 as a goal. Though I cannot wrap my head around brackets, RP etc etc. For example: last week I got 6000 honor and went from rank 4 50% to rank 5 8%. This week Im up to 145000 honor (and counting) and honorspy tells me I will end up at rank 5 80%. How can it be such little difference in rank % when I got soooo much more honor this week? Im sure the answer is logical, I just cant seem to understand it.
Thanks for any help.

I wouldn’t trust that part of honer spy, mine was never accurate, would always say my rank wouldn’t change or that I would go down a rank, then Wednesday would hit and I’ll be the next rank up.
I believe the bit that counts towards ranking up is the RP/CP, the normal honer window doesn’t show this but honerspy does, each rank has a corresponding RP number.

Any more detailed info I’ll leave to someone else as I can’t 100% remember the details :frowning:

1st, you cannot count on honorspy predictions on next week, especially at the start of the week.

You use HS to get an idea of your standing amongst other people on your realm.

When the week is over, then the pool size (number of players who have had a minimum of 15 kills on your server) is divided into 14 brackets with Bracket 14 getting more Ranking Points than Bracket 13 and so on. This is also why Bracket 14 has fewer people, with a pool size of around 1200 i believe it is 4 people on the server with standing 1-4 that gets ranking points based on this.

Each week your ranking points will decay with 20% so you must do consistent good ranking to get rank 10. It took me about 10 weeks, 13 weeks for rank 11.

A good idea if you decide to go for it, is to reach out to the realm high rankers and check if they have a PVP discord to help with premades etc, and check if they try to keep limits on brackets. Basically if you are below rank 13 you should not even try to get standing 1 as it will not benefit you alot, but will be extremely frustrating for people close to rank 14 as they might need to grind an extra week.

What Ayita says, but with some more details.

You need 40,000 ranking points (RP) to get rank 10. Currently, at 8% of rank 5, you have around 15,400 RP.

Every week, your earn RP depending on your standing (i.e. what bracket you were placed in at weekly reset). There is a certain number of spots in every bracket, however.

The bracket spots are determined by the PVP pool size, namely how many people got 15 or more honourable kills for the week (we’ll call them PVPers). Let’s take for example the top 3 brackets:

  • Bracket 14 comprises the top 0.3% PVPers on your realm;
  • Bracket 13 comprises the top 0.3% to 0.8% of the PVPers on your realm;
  • Bracket 12 comprises the top 0.8% to 2% of the PVPers on your realm.

And let’s supppose that your realm had exactly 1,000 PVPers. So, the top 3 brackets would look like that:

  • Standing 1-3 would be bracket 14;
  • Standing 4-8 would be bracket 13;
  • Standing 9-20 would be bracket 12.

Now, you get different amount of RP in each bracket:

  • From 13,000 to 12,000 in bracket 14;
  • From 12,000 to 11,000 in bracket 13;
  • From 11,000 to 10,000 in bracket 12;

Where the person in the bracket top gets the full amount and the person in the bracket bottom gets the least amount. For instance, person standing 1 in bracket 14 would get 13,000 whereas person standing 3 would get 12,000, unless all 3 persons in bracket stacked their honour (that’s another subject).

So, at the end of the ranking week you get your standing based on the honour you earned compared to what other people from your faction earned. Then, your current RP get deducted by 20% (this is called “weekly decay”), and the RP you earn for the week are added.

Let’s have an example. You had 15,400 RP. After the decay, you’d have 12,320. Suppose you got standing 1 for the week. You’d get 13,000 added, so after reset you’d have around 25,320 RP, which will get you rank 7. In a few weeks of hard PVPing, you’d get rank 10 :slight_smile:

HonorSpy is inaccurate for rank predictions, because you don’t have the final pool size and brackets shewn on it are naturally smaller. Furthermore, HonorSpy will usually not register any pool boosting that may take place on your realm. For instance, on some realms PVP communities add 2,000 to 3,000 characters every week, which inflates the brackets tremendously.

True, if you get standing 1 every week it will “only” take 12 weeks for rank 14, but you will likely disturb many high rankers on your way, which will likely give you a bad reputation on your server. I have seen people getting kicked out of guilds etc for “bracket breaking”, and I think that you will understand the grief it causes more than the gains as you start ranking. I sincerely believe it is more fun working with the pvp community than against it, solo ranking is boring and you might actually get friends working together towards the higher ranks :slight_smile: Even if it takes 1-2 more weeks extra which it likely wont.

Furthermore on many realms getting standing 1 means no time for family / work, sleeping while queued, eating at your computer etc. Doing that for 12 weeks is not healthy :wink:

Thanks lads for the detailed answers. I think the easiest would be to just continue PVP for a while and see how it all works out and I will probably learn something from it👏

If all you want is r10 all you need to know if what your servers br3 cap is. Aim to cap that or get close to cap and you’ll get r10 in no time playing pretty casually. Even br4 will get you there. Br2 and 1 are generally reserved for people that are like r12+.

The reason the gap is so large is because it recalculates daily, estimating that you keep the same pace of honor farm all week and doesn’t include others INCREASING their honor farmed.

Basically what you want to do is aim for a bracket above or at your current rank. (better than your current rank)

just earn like 200k honor per week, then at rank 8 u earn like 300k then for the last what like 3 weeks? from r9 + earn like 400k roughly

Of course this all depends on brackets. The amount of honor you farm is about what BRACKET you get placed in that week and the BRACKET determines what rank you get that week.
If you are 3 brackets above your current rank on tuesday you SHOULD jump an entire rank. Likewise if you are say a knight (rank 6) and you are in sergeant bracket (br 3 or 12 depending on how u view the brackets order) then you will lose rank but I believe your decay is capped at 20% per week? etc
