These new talent trees are so big and confusing already. Who even enjoys this?
Is there anyone in here who saw the “Apex Talents” announcement and was excited about them?
In my not-so-humble opinion, we should go back to the MoP talent trees.
These were not only more convenient, each choice was also much more impactful precisely because there were so few of them.
Complex class design is good.
Complex talent trees are lame.
Which begs the question: why is it a thing? Why turn into another layer of the system, instead of them being regular talents in the tree?
You enjoy the illusion of choice then. The current trees feature countless mandatory nodes that you will take all the time.
You actually changed talents more back then than you do now.
Didn’t I tell you this already?
If you disagree with me on any matter, it most likely means that you are wrong, Tah.
You mistake me for someone who cares about ‘the meta’.
I play what I like. I play what I feel fits the fantasy of my character best.
And to be clear: Before the talent rows were removed, I NEVER changed them throughout an expansion. Just like I never do so now either; unless I’m forced to because of a reset due to substantial changes.
Weaksauce. Try harder.
PS: You know just as well as I do, that I am never wrong.
I’d rather they bring back Vanilla - Cata talent trees. The MoP ones were way too simple and boring, the new ones are way too many and not only that but they also look lame.
Bring back the old ones and force players into a single tree so you don’t have to get talents from other trees, but make every choice viable in some way.
I never turn it off in the first place, what a silly question.
Easier to market would be mine.
Because, you know, now it has a name. So it’s a proper “feature”: it’s “apex talents” rather than just “some new talents in the tree like those we get every expansion”.
I like the initial choice.
I mean; I’d like even more choice honestly. I enjoy making a character my own.
Having it be all the same as everyone else is just boring.
So having that choice is nice; the reason that I don’t change it after the fact has NOTHING to do with the amount of talents. Your takes are getting weirder, my friend.
Right now, as a BM Hunter, your talent tree offers you the “choice” to take Cobra Shot and Barbed Shot. Of course you’re going to take those, they’re core abilities that are part of your damage rotation.
Why are we wasting talent slots with these two abilities? Why are they here? They should be baseline abilities you get while leveling as a BM Hunter - not “talent choices”.
You say you enjoy customization and making a character your own. Fine, sure, I agree.
But then, we’d benefit from having a smaller tree, and each node be a choice node betwene two or more abilities. What’s the point of nodes where you pick a single ability - which is more often than not a mandatory mechanic of your class, like “Alpha Predator” (the talent that gives you two charges of Kill Command)?
I come back to my initial statement: right now, you only get the illusion of choices with these trees.
You used to learn these basic abilities while leveling, without needing a class trainer.
That’s still a thing now, just for fewer abilities, because so many of them have been put in the tree for no reason. They don’t belong there.
Many of those baseline abilities I mentioned baked back into the base class
The size of the talent tree is cut in half (still much bigger than MoP talent trees, but smaller than what we currently have)
Each choice in the talent tree is a choice node between 2 abilities. Often but not always, the choice is between an active ability, and a passive one, to please both players who enjoy a high button count and those who prefer a smoother, easier experience.
Why does it need to be cut in half though?
I have trouble understanding why.
I like making choices. The more the better.
It starts with the basic character customization: The more options the better. I’ll tinker around with options until I get it just right. I love that.
Races with just a few options bore me to tears.
This part sounds good to me.
But I don’t see why the talent tree would have to be cut in half.
If anything:
I think they should not have the ‘class talent tree’ anymore.
Just bake everything into baseline spells/abilities or into the spec talent tree.
When I’m playing BM Hunter, I’m playing that because I love the fantasy of THAT spec.
I couldn’t care less about the class tree, honestly.
Anyway; removing that basically cuts the amount of talents in half. Voila.
How about that?
Because many of these are either baseline abilities like we discussed earlier, or flat damage increases that are very boring and add nothing.
Having fewer choices, but also having all of them bring more meaningful, sounds a lot better.
Sure, that’s a good option too. I’d be fine with that.
Glad we found a compromise, although this does leave us without something to argue about.
