"Hero Talents", "Apex Talents" - can we just not?

Depends. If I were one; probably, yeah.

But with my mindset and such: No. Because that’s just not me.
I’m happy with who I am.

Your general attitude of ‘being superior’ on these forums. I know it’s all just an act, but it’s the only ‘you’ I know, so I can’t help but it shape my image of you.

I do unironically miss the old talent system and I didn’t think I would.

Which old talent system?
Vanilla/tbc, etc era? Or the MoP, etc era?

The MoP one. The DF trees were an expansion selling feature but, in hindsight, had way too much stuff in it right out the gate. Everyone has everything all at once, especially on classes like mage or warrior.

The prune was already inevitable before TWW.

This is true, but it’s not the talent system’s fault. In fact, a very similar situation was appearing for BfA (proc-o-rama de la crazy from all the systems) and Shadowlands (more procs, covenant effects, and tons of modifers) but DF made it much, much worse.

It’s because the talents that are here are far, far too cheap, so you can just pick up a ton of them, and the classes were already messy to begin with.

Blizzard kept getting this feedback back in Dragonflight Beta and they listened to it frankly to the game’s detriment. High end players writing long and detailed posts about game design was the problem - because they might not understand that.

All they understand is how to beat the game and how to present a challenge to themselves doing it. They know what they want from the game, but they have no holistic view of it.

So by asking Blizzard to allow them to have TONS of talents at the same time they helped cause the insanely complicated rotations, or at least made it much worse - let’s not ignore the fact that this has been going on for a while.

And it’s not just that, it’s also readability issues. Spell effects don’t match their apparent danger or don’t appear at all, and there’s a ton of effects in general. Weak spells look strong, strong spells look weak, some spells don’t show up at all (except for in debuff lists) and there’s tons and tons of things happening all the time - so many that it’s impossible to keep up.

Yeah but most players are kinda simple and dont want variety, they want something as simple as they are like the mop “tree”.

Nope, it’s one of his alts…

“Grief” is one strong word to use for this. Unless you fancy yourself a mythic world first raider, it doesn’t matter that much.

All this kind of logic do is make the game worse for everyone. So in your attempt to not “grief” your team, you’re literally making the game worse and ruining the experience for everyone else.

I find that an overly dramatic, in fact, a rather toxic attitude TBH, the whole “If you’re not picking the 0.1% better option, you’re griefing other people!”, variance due to player skill is a bigger factor in performance than any talent choice.

Yeah…lets not forget that the people that play their own invented builds are 100% not the skilled ones. So player skill variance does not support your argument…

How so? Because i want to actually perform and not holding my team back?

Your mental gymnastics are amusing, i give you that.

Because you say it is griefing if you don’t choose cookie cutter builds. It’s not, it’s simply playing the game that the devs made.

But you’re playing it wrong! And that’s an affront to all that is good and holy! …or evil and unholy, depending on which class they’re playing (/sarcasm, of course)

…and then they’ll turn around and say “I don’t know why people are so reluctant to do group content”, yeah, it’s a complete mystery…

why go for MOP talents why not just press 1 button everyone is the same spec and talents
we play it like an idle game and just let it play itself. /sarcasm

  • please dont mix up your personal feelings of “ i CBA to learn”
    with
    actual player choice through talents

its a you problem if you CBA to play with talents.

if you CBA with talents because they are “ too complicated” , play a different game and stop suggesting silly personal preferences

Because this is not Vanilla anymore to have simplify all even then for example Warriors was doing insane dmg better scaling with gear.

So they needed to expand talents to try balance game at least somehow . So puting core abilities with caped talent points would limit people with talent choices but still to give people variety of choices for specific scenarios. Drgonflight and Tww r expansion where they balanced all classes and specs because new talent design.

If I play at a high level and someone joins with a non meta build (dps), yes that’s griefing the entire group. Just like playing with the OBR in high keys.

I love complexity, but blizzard moving towards total casualisation anyway, so whatever.

I think they should stop trying to reinvent 20years old specializations every expansion and start to develop a new ones instead. The more specialistaion class will have, the broader fantasy of this class will be.

I for example, want to play a Dwarf engineer/fighter with rifle and gadgets, but hunter almost completely lacks this kind of fantasy (especially hero talents LMAO). And hunter is the only class who can use guns. Although considering laughable shooting sound in retail, i don’t think they can be called guns anymore.
