The faction changes are gonna be $$$ for them.
I honestly think this is the best solution. Everyone wins.
Question though to those saying there will suddenly be more players than helves in lore… didn’t we have this with the void elves already? I thought helves were more numerous than velves.
Yeah, numbers isn’t really an issue (Well it is but it’s also useless to complain about). VElves already nearly match human pop as players and they’re still pretty new AND are rep gated AND require doing outdated content. And yet they’re one of the top races by player count, and even in RP they’re pretty popular.
What’s most important to remember - be it Void Elf or High Elf - is that the in-game population of player characters do not represent the broader demographics of nations/cities in the lore.
During the “downtime” of my character, I am going to still have them see 90% humans in Stormwind and very few elf variants, because that’s how it be, regardless of whether I see big concentrations of Void Elves tottering around in-game.
I don’t tbqh with you
Maybe I’ll go Gnome instead of just fchanging Yue when I’m forced to go Alliance to raid, tbqh.
I mean, that’s pretty evident. We rp’ers are but a fraction of the actual population that exists in Azeroth. So even if I do see a ton of elves in Stormwind I’ll always think that there’s way more humans than helves. It would be nice though to see it in player representation aswell but eh, can’t have everything.
I was going to do a storyline with Drowon becoming a void elf, but now I don’t need to and can instead play a high elf like should have been the option from the start. As someone who’s wanted playable high elves for over ten years at this point, this is definitely a happy day.
It’s a shame velves will likely never recover from this, but the very fact the option still remains to play a void elf is a good one; I’m an advocate for the fact that more options is always a good thing. Proud Not-A-Void-Elf-IC here.
Also daily reminder high elf population is high enough to populate Dalaran, Quel’danil, Alleria Stronghold, and the entire Silver Covenant, whilst void elves make up one single fanatical group of blood elves (with zero means to reproduce their race). It’s fair and valid to argue that high elves are a rare and dying race, but the argument applies tenfold to void elves, who likely number in the hundreds at the most in-lore.
Darkspear and gnomes are likewise a “rare and dying race” that people have no issue accepting in RP. Remember that players are never and have never been a reflection of the lore, and it’s perfectly fine to do as Loras said;
Two reactions
1 - ‘Huh, neat.’
2 - Brutally repressing the mild flood of people in my guild who want us all to go alliance now now now now now.
If you want to RP a High Elf, the Alliance (And the Horde) is there for you.
Blizzard skimming the outta the belf community once more AND killing off the velf scene?
Muscular…
They never cared about the Velves to begin with. They were a rushed addition, a last minute idea.
One they didn’t even carried over during all the Void invasions, I mean c’mon, how hard could it have been to include Alleria, Umbric and gang while they battled N’zoth forces. Were Void Elves more resiliant than other mortals against them or more susceptible to fall under their influence?
Velves will exist but in a state of limbo or frozen time.
Both are over represented in-game in accordance to their lore
I am of the firm belief that the Silver Covenant was just a convenient antithesis to play as a mirror to the Sunreavers during WotLK and nowadays just serve as a useful group to throw in every now and then when it suits Blizzard and their story, especially given the high elves are allegedly “all but extinct: the remnants of the remnants of a fallen race.” (quoted from Wowpedia).
They’ve never given us any reason to believe that the high elves are now more numerous than they were once they split off from the blood elves, and again, if we go by lore, Vereesa has stated before that “high elves seldom give birth and very rarely give birth to twins.” (again, quoted from Wowpedia).
I genuinely don’t think that high elves have a population by lore standards to warrant being a playable race, and you can respond by saying “neither do void elves though!”, and I will tell you: yes, you are right - they shouldn’t be playable (even if I find them cooler and vastly more compelling than high elves)
I suppose it ultimately doesn’t matter at this point, and I won’t witch hunt people that do play high elves (but I will 100% poke fun at you on the forums and you can’t stop me)
EDIT: JUST OPINION BTW don’t try and crucify me (I will crucify you first if you try)
since velves were the only other major race of n’zoth’s forces alongside humans
I’m gonna go with more susceptible.
I don’t really take in the Horrific visions. It’s was just a possibility but still a decent point.
in the outside world I’m not sure I saw a lot of Velves. I saw a lot of KT Humans, Kthir but never really paid attention.
Well, i like it more customizations is a good thing. ^^
Just wondering when they gonna add tails to male red pandaren… as its strange that only female red pandaren have them… or well tails in general. Notsure where to suggest this/ask.
Honestly the whole ‘‘Faction Balance at risk’’ pretty much affects only the Roleplay Community.
I doubt it will have a big impact on the PVE/PVP scene due to how dominating the Horde have been the past years with a larger community.
grunts
for quel’thalas.
edit: finally both races that have a low Lore population and a high Player population can be played on alliance.
Edit2: Like my friend Aerilen below me. Blood elf roleplay will be cleansed even more from this.
Can’t believe i don’t have to deal with helves in orgrimmar frowning on belves any more
It’s a christmas miracle
