lorewise and technically if a HE leave the alliance and ask for sin dorei citizenship, no one in Silvermoon will force him to mana tap any creature of extract magic from fel crystal.

In wow we have the following number of (edit: playable) races:
4 x elves
3 x humans (inc Undead)
3 x dwarf (inc Earthen)
2 x draenei
2 x orc
2 x troll
2 x gnome
2 x tauren
1 x goblin
1 x worgen
1 x pandaren
1 x dracthyr
1 x vulpera
1 x haranir
There are already more elf races than any other race, the game does not need more elves.
Edit: and according to Dataforazeroth, 1/3 of max level chars are elves. The top two races are elves. Elves are over-represented in the game.

At the moment they renames themselves and the moment high elves refused, it wasnt the moment about magic extraction with Fel etc. So HE just decided to leave and refuse to rename themselves in memory of the dead.
