Ah yessss, Harry Potter and the Writing A Multi-Page Screed About How Trans Women Are Really Just Deluded Male Sexual Predators.
My fave in the series for sure.

isn’t it great just how fashy the whole thing is when you dig even a little bit into the Harry Potter and the Purity Of Your Bloodline Defines Your Worth series

:))

Evil is defeated not by collective action, but by a rules technicality - and by the Chosen One who is a rich white English boy.

A entire species is born into slavery and explicitly defined through the text as really wanting to be slaves, including mocking the woman who looks at the situation from the outside and realises that it is wrong.

Magic could easily solve most forms of inequality in the Muggle world but wizards have just collectively decided not to bother, instead focusing exclusively on their own class interests.

This is the seminal work that has been one of the main series read by an entire generation of liberals isn’t it great

I always wondered something as well, why did the Wizard society collectivly decide to stay roughly 1000 years behind in the technological evolution(and only changed this in the last 3-4 movies but not before/in the books)?

What was so great about the middle ages that they decided “this is as far as we’ll go, despite magic, k?”

Probably stagnation. Why invent or progress when magic is the be all and end all of everything you do?

True, but magic can’t do everything, atleast not in the HP universe. And there’s cultural things like fashion, music etc!

Yeah, this is true, but as stated before by Levey, that status quo wasn’t something Tolkien was very happy with, since it didn’t sit well with his own Catholic philosophy that they could all be evil.

In all seriousness, if I had to guess, JK Rowling probably wanted this Arthurian/medieval aesthetic that wasn’t influenced by real life in any capacity, and didn’t give much thought to the logic of worldbuilding behind that decision.

Either that, or I’ll go with my newly-founded headcanon that everyone in Hogwarts is actually just a really dedicated LARPer and that no magic actually exists and it’s all just done in post to make the LARP look better.

LARP magic is infinitely cooler than anything Rowling made up

“my spells are just doing the thing but in latin” oh jeez stay up all night thinking of that one, joanne

The only bad part about this is that every other World of Warcraft race isn’t also influenced by that. Who cares about default european knight men when you can retvrn to the womb of humanity (the steppe) …

I never heard about that game until I only the other day saw an old MandaloreGaming video on it.

Don’t worry, nobody has ever played this game and its fans only know about it through video essays on youtube

That’s how you know it’s art

It looks/looked very…strange. Captivating but also weird and very confusing.

I like the music.

You should check out hbomberguy’s video on Pathologic. It seems to sum it up very well.

Okay, thank you for the tip!

Pathologic 1 definitely fits the bill of “this game is wonderful, with so much to talk about in its rich story. Never, ever play it”

God playing Pathologic 2 was awful, what a wonderful game.

It’s not my ‘witty’ take. Reputable companies such as Wizards of Coast share such opinion.

Why should I go away?
If what I was saying was just disingenuous concern trolling why would DnD be doing exactly what I mentioned in my posts? The sanitation of media, from comics through movies, card games and video games of ‘problematic’ aspects (which with every new case become more and more detached from reality) is blatant. Another ridiculous example is the fact that the word ‘crusade’ is too problematic to keep in Magic.

Why exactly is the word b*tch such a reach and ‘cringe’? I’d appreciate if you elaborated your criticisms beyond mere copout ‘cringe’. Afterall this is a game where the player character regularly receives quests to murder hundreds of humanoid NPCs, a world where genocide is a common theme and so are brutal war crimes such as unleashing biological weapons on civilian populations or purging a city. How exactly is the word completely out of place? I’d actually argue the opposite - the cleanliness of language in game as brutal and full of reflexive racial hatred as WoW is unnatural and unfitting and ‘cringe’ (done entirely to maintain 12+ rating to appease rating boards rather than some legitimate ingame reasoning).

What you perceive as cringe concern trolling is just me being ahead of the progressive curve when it comes to finding problematic things that need to be erased and changed. You might just end up the same way as J.K. Rowling who suddenly found herself outside of polite society because she believes in biology despite encouraging and cheerleading all of the other nonsense.

If you are willing to share it, and put it forwards for consideration, then it is your take. It’s your take echoed from another source, but it’s still what you chose to put forwards.

That being said, we cannot determine authorial intent here. If the WoW developers did write and code orcs in a way to belittle or stigmatize a real-life ethnic group, we’d never know because they’d never admit to that, thus we have to give some benefit of the doubt that simularities between Warcraft’s orcs and Tolkein’s orcs start and end at a fictional level.

Personally I am fairly confident that Blizzard drew inspiration from Tolkein’s depiction of orcs because every fantasy game, book, film, or other piece of media is likely to be influenced by Tolkein’s works either directly, or indirectly by other works that were inspired by the Lord of the Rings. Does that make it okay? Well that’s up for you to decide, but personally I feel in-character racism is seperate and distanced enough from real life circumstance to where it won’t cause offence on either as wide a scale, nor as severely on an individual basis.
