You can fundamentally apply this weird argument to anything. Sure, I can represent a short orc character using a goblin and I can describe that in TRP but that seems like a situation where you can avoid your character’s identity being misconstrued much easier by being an orc
Excuse me gamer but where exactly does this come in to the argument? As far as I’m concerned we are talking about a “cis” male character being represented using a female model rather than anything else. You’re doing a pretty epic / weird stretch to defend what is essentiall one character model over another
Yes, so would you not agree that you should pick the one that most people will be able to puzzle out at a glance / without addition info (if neither option has a specific benefit)
I think on a level, very very very few RPers roleplay their character’s build being what the base model suggests - ie. my human characters don’t generally look like super saiyans and I’m sure yours generally don’t also
I think if they’re playing a character portrayed as trans or non-binary or whatever term you’d use then they should pick whatever they think is cool / fits but if your character is literally just a generic guy who is thin / short, why oh why would you pick the character model that looks like an offensive caricature of a typical anime character

I would agree with this, genuinely I would love to. I have no issue with somebody RPing a female character to represent a skinny male toon, or as one artist on twitter does, using a male worgen to represent a female IC because the male worgen form is much more beastly and monsterous in aesthetic and better fits the art of the character.
The problem is that so few people do so. It pains me to admit that almost every ‘not male ic’ female character is some lustful prat playing a fetishized ‘femboy’, with a TRP full of unnecessarily detailed sexualized features. It’s gotten to the point that, even though I don’t mind the idea in principle, that I will amost certainly outright ignore those sorts of players with those TRPs. It’s just not worth the effort to me anymore to see if I might, maybe, possibly, by some slim chance be proven wrong.
But hey, if Argent Dawn starts to pull together and has compelling characters that aren’t just blatant fetish bait using a different model than the one they are OOC, then I’d be all for it. But we’re not there yet, and sadly I predict we won’t be for a long, long time, if ever.

From experience they’re often people exploring gender identity/expression in ways they simply cannot do irl. Live and let live.

I sincerely wish that were the case. Genuinely. I would love to see more of that. But the TRPs I’ve seen, the first glances, the about tabs, the art - all signs point to otherwise.
They’re not exploring gender identity as much as they are just using WoW as a platform for lust, and TRP as their main input on that platform. Perhaps I’m being too puritanical, but if one wishes to make an androgynous male character, maybe they shouldn’t devote paragraphs at a time to their character’s rear end.

I’m not making a point about gender identity et al in the slighest, I am making a point that I think if you want to play (as you describe it) a CIS male character who is short / thin that making it is crazy for me to think “instead of the tall muscle man, I will pick the extremely dimorphic female model that has even more things I have to explain away in my TRP”
If you don’t agree I am not personally paying your subscription so you don’t need to convince me of your PoV in any sense
This one I can understand to be honest the worgen female character model is so crazy. I think in general that race looked cooler in alpha

Well this character here is a man and I don’t think I’ve spent any of my TRP space describing them in a particularly sexual way?
A have a couple others like that. I also have a blood elf lady that uses the male model. I’m nonbinary irl so I enjoy playing characters that are gender nonconforming. I’d rather you’d not assume we’re all doing it for sex reasons.

And I’m genuinely glad to hear that you’re doing something like that, that is the sort of thing that I believe should be done, and I commend you for that. However, I’m sorry to say, you are the minority, even though I fully wish you weren’t. I’d much rather have you as the majoirty, and the awful TRPs I catch around Stormwind as the minority, but that just isn’t the reality of Argent Dawn I fear.

Perhaps but I think if both options arguably don’t represent what you’re trying to play (ie. a thin but distinctly male character) I’d go for the good captain there

Some countries’ backwater traditions have nothing to do with this subject. Homophobia or targeting players/characters whether it be IC or OOC on their sexuality is just plain wrong and doesn’t belong in WoW or irl, simple as.

Just because it’s a tradition, doesn’t mean it’s good. And some ‘‘traditions’’ or ‘‘rules’’ in certain countries, are just pure criminal behavior in others. Which is exactly what targeting people on their gender/sexuality is. Criminal.
