Hope for Player Housing

Found this via MMO Champion

  • Housing is a big topic at Blizzard. The developers are still thinking about how to implement it, so it does not feel so clumsy.

I fear it Will become like in wod…
But lets see. Anyway there are many new ideas lately from devs. Its a good thing. Somethin is changing

Player housing would be a reason for me to quit. Not a single game implemented player housing without breaking immersion for me.

True. They seem focused to give more content ever.

Next xpac u compete about having the biggest golden house and best garden.
New neigbourhood factions, drivebys and throw eggs on those ally loosers house

Good content, sounds alot more fun then going into another dark cave and kill some ugly looking thing over and over.

I’ve nothing against player housing, as long as we don’t end up with that sad WoD spectacle of a swarm of players appearing for 10 seconds to click on a Blingtron, before vanishing back into their own spaces. I would prefer they prioritized other aspects of the game, like fixing levelling, updating old world graphics, and creating better ingame systems to track alts.

For me its how they implement it. If it is like Garrisons than its a huge waste of time. If its somehow like SWG than it will be absolutely amazing.

I played very little in WoD. I got one character up to max level, did a few dungeons and then I quit. If there is one thing I remember fondly from my levelling experience it was the garrisons. I really liked how it was incoprorated with questing. Unlocking new allies was fun – much more so than in Legion.

The Mission Table, as a mechanic, has only devolved since WoD. Class Halls were kind of meh. Legion put you in front and center as the Hero, with you getting ridiculous titles such as “Odyn’s Chosen.” In BfA we only really have the table, which is not a fun mechanic in and of itself.

I don’t know exactly what it was that earned garrisons their poor reputation, but surely the design could’ve been altered rather than scrapped.

it would be strange if it wasnt, they tested the grounds several times with garrisons, order halls. Archeology rooms…

It would be 100% instance zone, but i think the customization needs to be done properly.

It should have reasons for people to return or be there, but not force them.

I think ffxiv would serve as major inspiration seems to be the most successful in a similar to wow game.

What will you do inside the house?

Player housing - BIG NO
Guild housing - HELL YEAH

Why not both?

Honestly I would for guilds to be able to get castles that they design, with a tavern and stuff like that for you to hang out with guildies.
Would also love if they then add something like guild pvp where one guild attacks the castle of another guild. It could be really awesome if done correctly.

As far as player housing is concerned it could also be done quite well. Just make them very much cosmetic first with little reason to stay in your home all the time.
Would also love to get something like a monthly housing contest where you would get to look around the houses of other players participating and rate them. With maybe the 10 best houses in the realm getting a good prize money or exclusive versions of housing items.

I would love to get player housing next expansion. I have nothing against using the same system for guild housing, but player housing should have priority.

I want my own little corner of Silvermoon to customize. And I say Silvermoon because if they don’t put the house on racial capitals it will be a system for an expansion only. I want this to become a permanent feature of the game.

It’s also important to have every racial identity portrayed, even if, like the heritage armour, not everyone gets racial buildings at the same time. For me it would be ok to start with a couple of racial themes per faction and have them be well developed, than ending up with the shallow customization we had for the garrison.

Drop a very small ‘street’ in the form of maybe 4 or 5 small house like structures just outside the racial cities, where the entrance to the street is the instance portal.

Upon entering, everything can be clicked on, picked up and moved around by your character (similar to that quest in Highmountain where you carry the dumbbells).

Don’t turn it into a quest hub like you did with garrisons. People in general just want a customisable place to call their own, not another quest zone. This also has the added bonus of making it easier to keep as relevant content.

Examples of where to put these ‘streets’ -

A cluster of huts near the Dranosh’ar Blockade

A group of small modest houses between the gates of Stormwind in Elwyn.

You could even introduce ways to upgrade your house, but I think it’s important that this doesn’t lead to things that can be outdated and left to rot in old expansions.

Trial of style - The home edition
I really like this idea :grinning: There could be a minimum number of houses you had to see and vote. Let’s say the vote would go on for a week. Players would give a score and the winners would be chosen by percentile: total score divided by number of visits. The top ten percent would get gold prizes, top twenty, silver and top thirty bronze.

Just a thought
