Hope for Player Housing

Please Blizzard do not do it. Player housing is the worst thing you possibly could add to Wow. Stop wasting any resources on this subject.

Why? What do you dislike so much about the idea?

In all the games I played that had housing it was boring, pointless, stupid and I don’t think Blizz can implement it such a way it wouldn’t suck.

I’m sorry you had such bad experiences. I’ve only played one game with it and I really enjoyed it.

However, if it was optional, then you wouldn’t have to take part in it unless you wanted to.

Blizzard is known for taking other features then changing them and adding that blizzard polish we all love to make revolutionary things.

I’m near 100% if blizzard were to take the player housing idea to heart, and put in effort in it - it would become something great.

Wow is a cool game, but I think it’s about time we start deviating.

Gameplay shouldn’t be just Raids and pvp, look at how successful stuff that deviated from those 2 are, battle grouds, arenas, challenges, story quests, artifact questlines, legendary questlines all are cool things added, it’s about time we go to explore other genres.

Yes I hope if it happens it’s completely optional and doesn’t offer rewards of any kind. A portal near Silvermoon as someone suggested would be a perfect place for the housing instance aswell.

This is the key, it needs to be totally optional. And be able to be used standalone from any expansion.

Never ever going to happen.

I want my house to look like the inside of Black Temple near were Mother Shiraz is .

If it’s well implemented that’s great for the players that have been asking for it. But it would do nothing for me, it’s just another instance which is in no way connected to the world as a whole. For me, it adds nothing to the immersion of what (for me) an MMO is.
Still, classic will be out by then so hopefully we all gets the kind of MMO we want.

Oh it will, majority of the MMOS have it now - FF, Rift, SWTOR, LOTR, so its about the time that WoW gets it to. That’s something which I can see that a lot of the players will like, and it will give to the people things to do in the game outside of usual activities like raiding/doing dungeons or participating in the pvp. All kinds of the players could benefit from it, from the crafters which could craft various stuff for it , to the collectors which will want to collect the things from the different content in the game and decorate their houses the best they can , to the rp-ers and the people which will want to relax there and have fun with their friends.

I would love player housing, maby similar to what Wildstar had, that was realy well implented and was realy fun to fiddle arround whit.

I absolutely loved it in Star Wars Galaxies. They really gave us room to be creative and we even had player towns which had even more planning and community feeling.

Not that that system would ever work in WoW though.

I doubt we’ll ever see player housing in game. Since Vanilla they’ve been interested/thinking about it. The garrison/class hall turning out the way it did and abandoned the next expansion says enough for me.

I also doubt they could design a good player housing system that would stay relevant if they really tried.

I should have known that someone who is playing the lock would be into the spooky stuff

Honestly, the best version of player housing should be similar, if not straight out copy-paste of SWtOR’s “Stronghold” system.
For those that are not aware, it’s both personal (realm-wide) and/or guild housing that does not affect the rest of the world(s). It has basic utility and the ability to place NPCs (incl. Random soldiers, mounts, companions if such are present).
They’re instanced locations that exist in the main cities/planets/capitols and some other places of note.
For the WoW version I would suggest:

  1. NO companions/tables, profession nodes and AH. Let’s not make this a Garrison 2.0…
  2. A bank liason or Dalaran-esque magic bank portal.
  3. Mailboxes or a Courier NPC.
  4. Blacksmith anvil, a forge and other utilities for professions.
  5. An archaeology artifact room - a place to display off your finds.
  6. Armory - a place to display weapons and armor, Legion Artifacts included.
  7. Training room or a Target dummy option. We need to hone our abilities even in the comfort of our homes.
  8. The Ability to purchase various NPC “guards” for the heck of it.
  9. Locations should start with Stormwind and Orgrimmar, later extending to the other racial capitals and further on perhaps even to Outland, Northrend and so on. All of those are to be Realm-wide or Account-wide, allowing even for an orc to sneak in Stormwind or Human in Orgrimmar, of course within the confines of his own personal housing (similar to SWtOR). The architecture may be either be set for the Housing (like Orc structure only in Orgrimmar) or be allowed to be set by faction (For example, making one of those fancy elven spires in Orgrimmar). The furniture and NPCs within and around should be restricted to the faction if the stronghold is within a Faction capitol.
  10. Trophies and other furniture should drop from raids, dungeons, world bosses or even Island expeditions and Warfronts with the most basic ones being purchasable from a decorator NPC in town.
  11. Entry to the Stronghold should happen with a Toy that summons an NPC (for example an arcane elemental) that offers to teleport you to any of your owned Housings or the guild one and which is present at all times near your spawn point within the housing with the option to teleport you out.

I have zero interest in player housing - but i’m not against it as I don’t think depriving others of content they like (or would like) is a good thing.

Just as forewarning I haven’t read everything so may be repeating here.

I would love the return of the garrison but with racial themes. Or guild houses. I love furniture crafting on ESO and tarting my house up as a project. I loves in WoD that people opened their garrisons for people to get a specific profession seller NPC. I loved that they put the blingtron just outside for others to use. There is a sense of community with housing, it doesn’t have to be verbal. Actions speak louder.

If it was quite customisable, I’d have lots of fun visiting people’s housing to see what they did. Some people are SO creative! Plus RP gets a boost.

Exactly. The aforementioned UO had to release additional maps for players to place their houses on. So instancing in some form has to be utilized.

So then there’s the next point: Why would you go there?
Put too much utility in there and we can easily end up with WoD 2.0. Everyone alone in their house going about their business from there.

Put too little utility in the houses and they can quickly become pointless - and not really worth the effort of even implementing them.

I’m having a hard time thinking of reasons to go to a house. If there’s stuff in there like auctioneers or vendors, I would not bother going to a city and thus contributing to making those even more empty.
Archaeology trophies perhaps? Collections of armor sets on display? Tokens/items from bosses to be able to hang on walls?

Sounds cool on paper, sure, but I can also see the interest fading quickly.

No just no im so so sick of being forced to use SW as allied hub .
I would rather quit than seeing them use it for more.
I want to scream everytime i go there to use the stupid silly portal room.
I hate SW with a passion i actually throw up and gag a little when i have to go there.

Agreed, Stormwind and Orgrimmar are getting stale. Ironforge and Thunder bluff are just as good, if not better!
