How active is Classic Era?

Friends, could you tell me if it’s worth starting on Classic Era? Is there any activity, PvP guilds, raids, or world events going on? How active are the servers, and does the world feel alive? I’d really appreciate any insight.

Both PvP (Firemaw cluster) and PvE (Pyrewood cluster) is alive, with Ally side having the largest population both places.

Best thing is to create a character on the PvP or PvE realm and check activity yourself in LFG channel and the Auction House - and count the AFK people in Stormwind / Orgrimmar

Yes, I already have a character created on Firemaw. The first thing I did was start monitoring LFG and checking out the idle players in Stormwind. I started having some doubts, and to clear them up, I decided to ask here. Still, thank you for your response.

ERA will probably be more active after fresh is done. You can take a gamble and start on fresh and hope there is character transfer to ERA. Up to you.

what is fresh? i’ve not heard of that, but not been really involved with WoW recently.

is it something to do with when they created “new” classic servers around the time of the anniversary? I really wish blizzard would stop splintering the classic community :frowning: its amazing that private servers stayed heavily populated for over a decade and a half, but blizzard handle classic like monkeys.

i mean, MoP classic? really? who wanted that? honestly? no one was asking for anything beyond TBC classic 7+ years ago. and im not joking, i predicted classic cata onward when classic was announced in 2018 or whenever. i thought it would just be a meme reply but here we stand and sadly i was right :frowning:

In answer to OP, 2-3 weeks ago when i last played, i was able to create an Uldaman group (i was tank) around 10pm during the week within about 20 minutes. so i guess theres people, but i guess it depends on your level. i have found Arathi Highland empty multiple times when i log on where i have lots of quest atm :frowning: but i am forced to play quite late at night (11pm+) which may not help things.

I can only speak for Firemaw, but to me it feels more active than people think it is. Finding dungeon groups is generally not a problem - a few weeks ago I made a Gnomeregan group in the off-hours in less than 20 minutes.

What really stands out about era is the actual classic feel. It’s a smaller community for sure, but you see the same names and guilds around, people have a reputation, and there is no layering. It’s generally more tight-knit, just like it was way back in the day. You might not be able to find a group for your dungeon instantly, but that’s part of the joy of classic, isn’t it? Having friends on your friends list, asking them, finding a small community of players with the same goal as you, and so on.

Of course there’s the GDKP question. The GDKP community still stands on era, but funnily enough I’ve found that most bots, and thus RMT, went on to the anniversary realms. With GDKP banned and bots all over each and ever node over there, my theory is that those wanting to raid regularly often turn to RMT simply because it’s tedious and hard to farm gold for consumables. Much more so than those having the option to play GDKP and earn some gold by actually doing enjoyable raids.

To me, era is the last “true classic”. No layering, no QoL changes (except those boons…), no artificial restrictions on loot rules and how to play, and a smaller community.

Thanks for the honest answer.
Honestly, I just wanna go back to where it all began.
It feels like returning to the old neighborhood after years away -just to see if anyone from the crew is still around.
This isn’t me running away from TWW.
It’s more like coming home -back to the roots, back to the version of myself that fell in love with the game in the first place.
I’m heading into Classic not for the hype or meta -but to remember “why” I ever cared.

I just wanna know… is anyone still home?

There’s still activity on those servers as already written above. Levelling might be a bit empty, since most levellers start on Anniversary.
However, we still don’t know if you can move from Anniversary to Era once it is over in 6-8 months, so if you want it safe you should level on Era from the beginning.
