How did you choose your realm?

Moved to this realm to join my brother for raiding, turned out to be a crap guild but I managed to get into a decent one now but Laughing Skull and the rest of the connected realms were dead even before the exodus of the playerbase.

Got into DnD about five years ago. Guildless in mid BfA I thought why not try an RP realm? Also was doing casual raids with a community many of whom were here, so I got to ask ahead if a guild would take me.

My RL friend and his friend chose Silvermoon to play: Horde …
I went after.
Silvermoon was at the time (WoW had been recently launched) too crowded, so after a few months Blizzard offered free transfers to Kul-Tyras.
We took it as we had enough of waiting in queue for hours to be able to play in Silvermoon.
After that he chose Azjol-Nerub to play: Alliance …
You might say he had very bad choices regarding realms …

Cheers.

Defias Brotherhood used to be a realm with perfect A/H balance, about 50-50%. But that doesn’t matter anymore. Once a very popular realm, but it is long dead.

I picked “Sylvanas” cuz I love my queen <3 It was a big big big full PvP realm once… now its dead and empty.

At the time SWC was a brand new RP realm, fresh and clean, meant no huge queues like on Argent Dawn. Still is a lot better but AD is definitely THE RP realm.

been playing for so long…I think my realm was for new players and PVE

A RL friend I went to school with was on Earthen Ring so I started there back in late 2006, he quit 2 weeks later, I eventually moved from ER to Ravenholdt at the end of legion and just over an expansion later, they connected them  typical

I started life on Shadowsong, because I had some RL friends play there.

When I returned pre-BFA I moved to Aerie-Peak, I didn’t want to get to into the game. At the time it was a quiet server and felt attractive to someone who didn’t want to get too indulged in the game.

Now, still living on Aerie-Peak, it’s not the busiest Battlegroup, but there is a little life here. But I have friends who want me to go to Magtheridon, but I’m not paying for my entire economy of Alts and Bankers to transfer.

Magtheridon. This was back in the days a very balanced server with a good ratio horde/alliance. Now it’s mainly horde.

PVE-PVP wise: I started on Burning Blade because that’s where my SO went, because that’s where his friends went. After our guild died, we decided to move to Twisting Nether for better opportunities.

RP wise: I originally picked Argent Dawn because some of my friends played there, but after a few years pretty much all of them except me quit and I realized that the rest of the server’s community and its general atmosphere is just… very much not my thing.

By the time I finally decided to abandon AD (around mid-to-late WOD), the smaller realms were already bundled up into clusters. In the end I chose Moonglade/Steamwheedle Cartel/The Sha’tar because I took a look around the realm forums and found a guild that seemed pretty cool. I’m now one of its officers.

Best choice of my WoW career.

I used to chase the world first kills guild around, but that’s pretty pointless; they usually don’t care about you; I ended up sticking to one with a high population because the worst thing in this game that can happen unless you are extremely hard core or extremely casual is: to not have population.

The only positive thing about chasing the best players around is that very rarely you may speak to the “stars”; e.g. I used to speak to a Paragon member; that guild was the best ever at making strats.

It was where i found a guild that raided at times that suited me and was in need of healers.

my first realm was darkspear as it was recommended to me in vanilla via the game…

then it was silvermoon as it was the pug central during wotlk

then it was whatever realm was recommended to me as popular for new players during each expansion launch.

problem was the new player realms often peaked… then died fast cause new players didnt stick around very long.

well does it really matter what realm we are on as thay are all joined which i think is 1 of gm’s big mistake

picked a dead server so can play wow as singleplayer …

High pop and alliance dominated, nothing more.

simple, once I got my own acc I just automatically put my main on the same realm as my mom xD
so we could play together ofc lol

Nice transmog

After 8 years of playing on Draenor I transfered today :expressionless:
