How did you first discover WoW?

My older brother was playing I believe Cataclysm on our old PC and I would watch him play, I was about 7 or 8 at this point so was not able to play, however I watched a youtube channel called “The Yogscast” play Mists of Pandaria, which then got me interested in the story of the game, I used to listen to WoW lore videos to fall asleep at night  Eventually got the game at 14 or 15? when BFA came out, birthday gift, now over 6 years after BFA came out I absolutely love WoW and still listen to those lore videos sometimes (thank you PlatinumWoW xD)

An ex introduced me to the game.

I played warcraft 2 when was little.

At around 2008, on my teens, i got acess to internet at home, and gave a try to the trial version. As it was my first true mmorpg (only played a bit of Metin 2 and Runescape until then on net cafes), i got hooked.

I really liked WC3, WoW initially wasn’t on my Radar, but some Friends who played DAoC with me started raving about it and finally switched to WoW so I joined them.

I don’t remember exactly, but I do remember that I was first playing in 2005 through 10 days of trial where the level cap was 20. I remember going with 9 people inside the Deadmines. I remember being awed when I learned Blizzard (the spell) as I hit level 20 right on the last day of the trial.

I was playing at 640x480, Windows XP…

I don’t know how I discovered the game though.

First time I read about it was in printed gaming magazine - we would buy those mostly because they came in with a CD full of demos and sometimes a full game. And seeing how I was big Blizzard fan back than and WarCraft 3 was one of my favorite games I couldnt wait to get my hands on mmorpg in that setting.
After few trial accounts I started playing few months or weeks before TBC came out. I still remember people in trade chat talking about Dark Portal soon openning and I had no clue what are they were talking about

My boyfriend back then played it so I decided to try it. I played for 30 mins on his account and then decided to get the game for myself.

I was broke kid who find out about wow from
my other broke friend.Sounded magical to be honest. We played on private server for some time.Tbc.Later on as i started working i jumped in Cataclyzm.Didnt stick around even tho it was fun.Probably cause of work, i dont remember anymore.Decade later i got in dragonflight.Playing since.Even got my friend who introduced me to
Wow to play. And gratefull that im able play.Wow always had that something. It has it even now.And i think Many people vibe to it and cause of that game is going strong even after 2 decades.:slightly_smiling_face:

I played the warcraft RTS games. Saw they were making an mmorpg. Jumped into it when it launched.

On the internet.

I bought a dvd box with the first season of the animated Iron Man but the sound wasn’t in sync with the animation, so i brought it back to the store. There on the counter was a box with TBC on sale and i remember a co worker of mine talking about it once. I always wanted to try an open world game and Runescape wasn’t as fun. I asked the clerk if i could change the DVD for WoW and that’s how i began playing back in 2008.

Everyone at school wouldn’t shut up about it. Also was a fan of WC3.

I discovered it on a gaming magazine, though everyone on the internet was talking about it, but I remember that article. It was talking about the Christmas event and I think also about the upcoming expansion, Burning Crusade, trying to guess the new playable races (I remember Pandaren being one of the guesses). Unfortunately since I was really young I couldn’t join, I’ve only been able to begin playing when I started working and making my own money during Legion. I did play a lot of private servers though.

My wife bought me WOTLK on discs for my birthday. She had no idea what it was but knew I liked Tolkien type fantasy stuff.

My sister played this game on our family PC, now I continue to play it on the same PC. :skull:

PC Format magazine back in 2001 had a reveal demo on its monthly CD;

I didn’t play WoW till 4th quarter into TBC officially… was playing on a private server early into TBC. Before then I was playing other MMOs like:

  • Legend of Mir
  • Myth of Soma
  • Mu Online
  • Ragnarok Online
  • ROSE Online
  • Space Cowboy // Ace Online [easily had the best PvP in an MMORPG where skill matters more than level and gear, a good lvl 30 could take out a lvl 40+]

i was in primary school and a friend said for me to get it, i went to his house. Had a look and a brief try and the rest was history.

Saw the battle chest in a Tesco and thought it looked interesting after playing runescape for so long. Spent the first week killing vultures in westfall for small eggs and selling them for like 3g a pop.

But WoD and SL made me quitted play. Since it was worst.
After better new expansions make me again play

Pretty boring story…knew WC3 through a class mate, same class mate showed me the WoW Beta, bought it EU day one and never stopped since. :dracthyr_shrug:
