How do one get the "spark" back?

Hello everyone!

I’ve played Classic now since the launch. But as you can see from my low level, I’ve not been able to play much at all.

I’m spending most of my time working during the week days, and spend the weekends with my family. So over all I’ve not found the time to play as much as I want to.

I’ve been waiting for Classic for many years now. Been hoping for Blizzard to make it happen. But now, when it’s here, I can’t find the motivation to play.

During the last two weeks I’ve been thinking about playing. And really been looking forward to the next time I would have the time to play. I’ve made up plans for what I wanted to do when I logged in. Specific dungeons I wanted to do, what gear I would like to farm, and how far I would level my professions and in which zones I would spend my time. But today when I logged in I just spent and hour /afking in an inn. And the “bottom fell out” of the whole thing.

And this makes me feel really stupid. I’ve been waiting for this game for all these years, and now when I finally can play it again. I don’t want to? That’s just idiotic at best.

So do you have any tips to get the “spark” back? I only have, maybe, 1-2 days each month to play. So it should be fairly hard for me to get burned out.

sometimes it is great to have a busy life, after all games are to have fun and not to burn your cells there. im playing like 10-15 hours per month and im happy about it, i dont mind being behind in level or proggress. fun in top of everything mate

Twink your rogue and wait for bgs after Christmas.

That’s the worst advice ever, lol.

To the OP.

Well … let’s just say that the expectations were bigger then the “real thing”. You though Classic will bring back that “spark” from back in the days, but no … it will never be the same, for …different reasons. It can come close, but not the same.

For you, it seems that playing 1-2 days per month is a reason as to why you can’t get motivation to play. I mean, you think so much about things you will want to do when you login , that when you do get to play the game, it’s like you already played it ( in your head ). Yes, 1-2 days per month is extremely low for a MMO and of course it will fail to keep that “spark” for you.

I am sure you enjoy the “on-the-go” games as we speak, and that’s fine. But you don’t have the same time to play WoW, as you had back in the days when you had that sweet memories.

Can you enjoy WoW with 1-2 days per month? Well … yea you might, for awhile. But then, starting from say lvl 30, you will not feel much progression ( which actually you might be at this …step now ), andso , you get …burned!

Nevertheless, a decent way to enjoy WoW ( somehow ) , with your low time play, is by leveling up all chars to … 24 ( as this Rogue of yours ) … on both side! If it took you 2 months to get to 24 on 1 char, then … you have yourself 1+ year of guarantee enjoyment from WoW !

You wanted to get your old self back. You got only a game. Now you are disappointed. It’s either because you changed or your surroundings changed. In either case nothing really will help you. Just accept it and move on.

I’m in exactly the same position as you wife kids full time job its a busy life, but you have to a routine and commit to it. I play between 10-20 hours a week which converts really into 3 nights a week. I tell my partner I’m playing on these particular days which she’s fine with. But you need to stick with your plan or you will never play. It is hard sometimes and i can’t be bothered to play after 9 hour shift seeing to kids jobs round the house. It does have its advantages aswell because I’m always looking forward to playing because i can’t play every day.

i love classic, wow is a great game but coming back to retail now after being gone for a few years has become too much, everything is faceroll, too easy.

Classic is not easy, you have to invest for every level after 30, time and motivation.
if you do not have it then classic is not for you my friend.
back in the day it was many months before the casual players reached 60. some never did. so you can either take up the challenge and aim for 60 or simply walk away.
an hour or two aday is NOT going to get you there. and by the time you reach 60 everyone else who invested is going to be too geared in pvp for you to compete, they will be done with starter dungeons you would like to do so you will struggle to get into those aswell… basically you will get scholo, ubrs and stratholme to choose from.

so get your butt in gear or find a new game. my 2c

Play much at all, I have an alt thats lvl 23 that I made less than a month ago and play for just 15mins every 1-2 days, sometimes 3 days. How are you only lvl 24 since launch? You must be so busy with work you can’t even watch tv either? Yeh right it’s clear you just watch tv for hours in your spare time thats all…
Clearly you’re not into the game at all, no point even trying honestly.

You won’t get into the game if you can only play 1-2 days every month. If you constantly worry about doing things in the most efficient way and not wasting any time, but still only make progress at a snail’s pace due to your limited time then you will never get satisfaction from this game.
You have to bear in mind that this game was designed for people who would spend 4-8 hours every day playing it and if you can’t spend anywhere near that amount then you won’t get the most out of it because you will constantly be behind everyone else with no hope of catching up.

I disagree with you on the play every day for 4-8 hours. There is no pressure on you to log on every day like in TBC where the daily quest was introduced. You can easily play Classic wow a few nights a week yes you may be behind players gear wise and you definitely wont get above rank 10 but this game can be enjoyed on a casual level. You just have to be efficient with how you spend your time and not standing around in citys doing nothing like most people.

There’s nothing wrong with the conclusion that this is not what you want to spend your limited free time on

I can understand it’s quite hard to keep a sense of progression if you only have a few hours to play per month so in that sense it might be a bit simply put but at the same time, this is your life right now and you should enjoy what you truly enjoy instead of forcing yourself to like something which maybe just doesn’t fit well in your life right now.

Is easy man just spend less time with the family.

Really though, if you have such few hours; are those hours atleast in the evening where you can enjoy things like a drink and smoke? I feel like if my game time was so restricted I would basically have a banquet of nerd stuff to feast and pleasure myself with.

Mate, you have to accept that the guy you were 15 years ago is not who you are now. Think back to then. You may not share my experience but maybe you do.

Did you want a wife? Kids? A dog? A life? I remember really clearly that I was using WoW to socialize back then, as an autistic person. I would have killed for a fraction of what I have now - a good income, a job I enjoy, stability, a lovely little puppy and a fiance to helped me get all of it.

WoW takes its place in your life. It’s a game. It’s fun, but if you cba with it for a night, a week or a month, who is counting? You have meaning elsewhere in your life now. WoW can just be fun.

Heck when I first played WoW I ignored it for four months and then got 60 around 6 months after that. I am not gonna rush this time either.

It’s because the idea and fantasy of playing is usually better than playing, you think “ah im going to log in and go do a bunch of dungeons and get loot and levels and have a laugh”. Then you realize you are going to be spending ages assembling that group, then ages getting to said dungeon then dealing with drinking/eating ninja pulling etc etc.

Same with questing, everything just takes forever and if you have irl responsibilities which most people that played vanilla will now as we will be in our late 20s/30s then doing even just 1 dungeon can take most of the free time you have that night after you all assemble and get there.

Say what you will about bfa, ye the xpac sucks but leveling up is actualy a good bit of fun in retail atm as it’s short burts of fun that is not going to eat into your life. 20-30 Minute dungeons that you get ported to, and quests that give a big reward to time effort, I think classic was perfect when you were in high school with all the free time in the world.

It just depends if you are able to see the bigger picture or want quick rewards that feel good for a bit, in classic you need to think of the slow bigger picture of building your character up over a long period of time so every long dungeon haul matters in the long term.

I see the replies here, and I must say; I agree.

I do not have the time to play Classic for what it’s worth. The people I’ve been playing with have all gotten to level 60, and have cleared both MC and Onyxia.
And with the really low amount of hours I have of free time during a week, I don’t see myself prioritizing Classic too much. I’d rather spend time on my other hobbies and with less demanding games, than having to “waste” it on finding a group, getting ganked, running from A to B, ninja looters/pullers etc. It’s all fun and games, but I don’t see myself finding the time to appreciate it.

Maybe I should give BfA a chance? A RP-PvP server or something like that. Maybe people are more welcoming to do stuff around the world, and not to focused on end game min-maxing? I don’t know…

So I believe I’ll just call it… it’s really sad actually. But that’s life I guess.

Enjoy Azeroth. I kind of envy you.

really? you would change server because of what you think others expect of you?. screw it. play the server you want, as long/short as you want. the way you want. i can guarantee you that there will be a guild full of people just like you waiting for you.

find a social/casual guild and dump you breakneck max power guild. it is clearly not for you. play 2 hours a week and enjoy a raid once in a while. classic will be around for years atleast. it is too much of a crowd draw for blizzard not to be.

besides if blizzard stops delivering wow classic then it is legal for private servers to start up again. they aint gonna let that happen.

Greetings Næsh.

I would suggest to surround yourself with people in a similar situation as yourself. It´s easy to feel “left out” if you are in a guild with say, people that have 8 hours a day to play, who are interested in raiding, min maxing and not in it for the journey. Then you can really feel discouraged when logging on, and forget why you wanted to play in the first place.

If you are in a guild with people who, like you, have been blessed with family and work, then it can help a lot with "recapturing the spark; and get that sense of community back. Sure, we might not be able to play all that much, but when we do, it´s very sacred quality time.

Just a question, if you do not mind? You mention getting ganked? I might reconsider playing on a PvP realm with that little time available. Unless PvP is really your thing of course. Just, for me, spending 20 minutes corpse running when I only have 1 hour to play is something I really do not want.

If you enjoy Classic, play Classic. Try not to compare yourself with those who have a lot more time to play, and try not to compare yourself with who you were 14 years ago.

Look at the launch of Classic as an opportunity to immerse yourself after a long day, and recapture the essense of what made Vanilla such a wonderful experience for you back then.

I wish you the best of luck ahead :ribbon:
