How do people play without Weak Auras?

Ever since I started getting semi-seriously into WoW, I have been using Weak Auras to display my “main dmg rotation” spell CDs right above my character… And apparently others don’t…? :joy:

When I look at streamers play, I notice they are CONSTANTLY looking up and down, swapping their eyes between their spells at the bottom and the gameplay happening above… :face_with_spiral_eyes:

With Weak Auras, I am able to press a spell AS SOON as it’s off CD. But if I play without, then there can go 2-5min before I realize a spell is ready again… Or I might forget about a spell I have in general.

So my question is…

Do you all actually look up and down? Or do you “just guess” or “have a feeling” when the spell is ready again? How the heck do you do it without straining an eye muscle?

This is how my characters look on screen, with all the Weak Auras showing spells I have hooked up to my MMO mouse… :joy:

[ 1 ]-------[ 2 ]-------[ 3 ]
[ 4 ]-------[ 5 ]-------[ 6 ]
[ 7 ]-------------------[ 9 ]
-------MY CHAR
------------[ 8 ]

It kind of gets in the way a lot of times, and doesn’t “look good” when I stream myself playing hehe.

Right know elvui and auras that i did myself for tanking.

All of those poor lads that dont hav any, is just becouse they dont know any better.

Dont get me wrong, i come from a playstyle where i rotated my char with A+E for.ex , was looking permanent the bars on the bot of the screen and clicked everything.

Once you arm yourself with courage and go try some bindings and place the bars mid screen with bartender, the scenario changes with time A ALOT

With the new UI “rewamp” and the options it offers, i see even myself yeeting away and for good elvui and some auras, and so ppl will do aswell, cos they didnt hav the option before with the old ui, and the process of place addons in the game makes a lot of ppl not confortable with it.

Time will say, but for me i see a good path and opportunity for peeps to feel themself comfy and friendly with the ui in DF.

The WAs I use are:

Tracking how much AP I have left until my legendary procs
Guardian spirit procs
Flash concentration duration and stacks
How much death strike will heal for
Warning when someone that’s not me taunts and who it was
How much cloudburst is going to heal for
Hylbrande console thing
Some WA to show me what stats people have for soleahs trinket so I don’t have to check it manually

Don’t see any need for more than that. I can see my CDs with ease without needing WAs.

Sometimes people dont realize that hekili is best weakaura.

Hekili is awful.

“Hey, you should cleave!11!”. How about no, I’m bursting a specific mob.

Rather than creating lots of additional UI elements that take up space and clutter my UI, I try to configure my action bars in such a way that I get all the information I need from them. I do 2 things to achieve this:

  1. Make important buttons glow when I should be using them.
  2. Position the action bars close to the center, just below my char, so that I can easily see cooldown times and which buttons are glowing.

For example, on my resto druid, I make my Lifebloom and Efflorescence buttons glow when they’re not active or about to expire and I’m in combat. On my Fury warrior, I make Whirlwind glow when I have multiple targets in range and need stacks. I don’t make EVERY cooldown ability in my kit glow, because some should only be used in the right situation.

I use WAs, but I feel like my main rotation on main is already somehow build in and i know how many Xs i can fit in before Y is redy etc etc so not realy needed in that regard .

Its super helpful to tracks CDs and various procs or buffs .

Also some more complex WA can save a day, or make it way easier ( one would say it should be banned)

But yea, pretty much mandatory addon if u take it at least semi serious. And i know bunch of people that never wanted to use it cuz “meh i dont need it” and after few months of using it they cant imagine it without

I feel like that the issue with it. Its good ( idk realy havent tried myself and i dont know anybody that used it in last few years, or similar ones) for new people. Once u can decide that prio nuking one mob is more important for your group u are past point where u need addon for rotation. Imho .

I…only use TomTom and dbm…

Guess I am too casual for it?
Or just like to play the game myself, instead letting some SkyNet-in-traning playing it for me and do the thinking
:person_shrugging:
TRP3 is another story

more so - not only i do look down on my bars im also clicker outside of spell bound to q,e,r,f (offensive abilities , trinkets ) gaming mouse buttons (def cds)

doesnt stop me from doing 15-20 dungeons without problem.

i do use couple of weakauras like tracing of fire mage legendary , tracking of slice and dice on rogue , 2 weakauras for gambit and streets and few others for raids when i was raiding. butthats pretty much it.

i will tell you a secret though - when you do enough dungeons/ enough pulls you know very well when your cds ae +/- off cd… you dont really have to check it every 5 seconds. if you are good player you also know when its worth to delay using cd because using it lets say 30 sec later on much bigger pull is much more important then pressing them on every cd.

I played for years without using weak auras and still do I’d never let any A.I play for me.

Maybe I’m wrong but that’s just me how I prefer to play.

Oh and bartender i don’t use make me puke when it aranges my action bar willy nilly I’m so used to the Blizz UI.

Those guys pushing the worlds highest keys and doing twice the damage of normal peeps with the same gear sure are doing it wrong!

Also, WA above your char? Do you walk into walls a lot?

I… don’t use any WA  there is an option on the WoW interface to show the timers of cds right on the spell icon.
I use my standard WoW interface and look at the timers there.
I don’t need something to tell me how to play, after 17 years I think I know how to play this damn game :stuck_out_tongue:

I only started using Weak Auras in Legion due to Blizzard’s own personal resource bar bouncing around the screen and not showing Mongoose Bite stacks. And then I only use them to consolidate information into the centre of the screen to avoid needing ‘eyes on stalks’. I don’t need them to play but I find it much better on the eyes to have them.

Or, you’re using it wrong.

I like to play the game myself but i have various WA to keep track of various buff, resources etc etc withouth have my eyes rolling around like under drugs because blizz UI still has a million limitations.

Track stuff is different that having a rotation addon that tells you what to do.

I think most semi serious players spend enough time playing the game to just know their cooldowns and rotation by feel.

WA is a life saver for me. I need at least 3-4x bells and whistles to remind me that my on use trinket is ready.

I tried to set it up once, but for one it wasn’t successful - appears quite difficult for me - and I’m fine without it anyways. I can complete the content just fine.

But truth be told I almost got mad over the Attumen dispel - WA is mandatory there, else everyone dies on a wrong dispel.
Thank god it was removed :smiling_face_with_tear:

Otherwise, I use a couple addons that are pleasing enough for me - not too difficult, but do provide me with whatever extra info I may need.
