It’s hard to find good ones that don’t cause fps loss, so I just try to avoid them. I use a really basic one for necrotic stacks but that’s about it.

I have a class weakaura set directly below my character, for every class I play.
Since being on beta, I’ve come to realise exactly how much I rely on my WAs. Even with my bars rearranged so all the spells I need to track are in the space where my WAs usually are, I still miss things, forget to press things, and generally make mistakes in my rotation. (I have installed the beta version of the WA addon, but my skill in creating WAs is limited to a few simple ones to track procs.)
I do rely on ‘just knowing’ when it comes to short CDs, though. Once I’ve been playing a spec for a while, I get a feel for how long it takes for them to come off CD. (It caused me a lot of confusion on the DH between BfA and SL, when the blade dance CD was increased. I was constantly pressing it before it came off CD.)

I feel my characters and i don’t need wa , all it does makes u more lazy and it’s a bit easier . If u are a dedicated player u will feel when procs are up not to mention some of the procs have visual animations even trinkets .
I moved a bar from the bottom to under my char in the middle of the screen.
Its a problem for really big and high res monitors. Personally i have notebook 1900x1600 or smth and there is not a big a length between character and bottom bar, pretty comfortable. And usually there are enemies above my head, so cant do buttons placement like you. Although i use wa for some buffs. For example its unreal to track earthquake buff from elem legendary
I use WA for CDs cause i have mouse over bar for 2+ 3+ minute CD somewhere in the corner 
As tank i need to have a CLEAR screen
I have my HPFrame next to it i have the rotation abilities plus mitigation and potions/elixirs all that u need
I have plater so that one is telling me a lot of STUFF
i have colors on dangerous enemies so i don’t need to look for name i only see the COLOR…
then i have Bigwigs/littlewigs for raid/dungeon mechanics
Sometimes i download specific weak aura like hylbrande where you just click colors and send it to chat.
how can peoples play with no total roleplay addon so meny players missing a last name or a profile …
I would not say it is mandatory, but it certainly is much harder to see the ghost with all the extra visual effects we got over the course of two expansions.
I personally use WAs to only track important pieces of information on my mage, such as the number of Phoenix Flames and Fire Blast charges I have, and how much time I have left of combustion. I also use a WA to highlight execute range for scorch, as well as how many legendary stacks I have.
I do not know why people compare using WAs to the character being played by an A.I. Most use Weakauras to centralise the useful and essential information the game has, information that is placed at terrible spots on the base UI.

How would an addon know whether you have multiple targets in range?
Even if an addon flashes the buttons you must press, you can’t be as quick as to follow. You need to know half-way into the GDC which button comes next. Especially when there are dependencies and you cannot just spam.
WoW does flash buttons occasionally to alert you. I am not sure if that can be switched off.
If you try to write a few simulationcraft scripts, you will understand how immensely complicated the rotation can be (it’s called priority list). You can write your own script, just as you’d play the game, and you would not even do 60% of the proper script’s damage. They are so complicated. Cannot be done by human.
And this is just on a static situation. Add raid boss mechanics, movement, and it’s chaos.
Wow would collapse if they were to disable all addons one day.
Which gives me a good idea : tournaments and achievements with NO addons as the only entry requirements!

I used to play without WA many years ago but then i discovered magic of it and grew as a player. Honestly You do not even need DBM with good set of Weak auras for the raid/dungeons. They are superior
You don’t need DBM anyway. It’s useful to have but not mandatory as well as any addon in general.

Try raiding mythic or doing PVP without any addons its not doable, you will be at severe disadvantage.

So when I see a big purple puddle below me I need an addon to tell me to move away?

still no WA and standard WoW interface.

Part memory, part muscle memory and just a general looking over the screen.
Some spells are placed on the same spot on every actionbar I have on every char, so I can press that without too much thought.
I don’t use addons, so I pay attention to other things during the play.

I know the placement of my spells so I can flick them quickly to check when they’re ready. In general I don’t measure stuff in time, I do in GCDs, so for an example I know that between every Mortal Strike, I have 3 GCDs, and I have a general feel for when my next AA swing is, so I ensure I press 3 damaging GCDs inbetween every Mortal Strike, and then also conclude whether pressing said GCD will rage starve me so I can’t press my Mortal Strike off cooldown.
Then the rest is just knowing the lineup. Colossus Smash is every 45 sec, and every other usage my Avatar is ready etc. Flick CS quickly with the eyes and then I know when I can use what.
