I literally just use the name of a favourite character from a game or an anime.
Lemme guess, this one?
I mainly picked my names from the name generator, as I prefer RP names wherever possible. On the other hand, my main’s name is a creation of my twisted brain. I gave it an RP reason to cover it up, but I really can’t recall what made me pick Dunkiee.
Wow, I really respect the amount of thought you put into this.
All my characters are named after various characters from the Golden Sun games, usually with some a, o or u replaced by the German ä, ö or ü for availability.
Oh be quiet you! I’m trying to operate in stealth here.
no idea tbh
Whats the point if you’re in stealth?
May as just do it in a mirror, nobody else can see you! What a waste of a nice brisk walk and rain coat
I miss that series…
I wish we could get more sequels. or remakes
My Orcs are named after famous Klingons
As you can see this guy is Kahless after the Klingon Hero
My Orc Mage is Martok
I wanted to name my warlock Gowron, but that was taken
I just keep it simple.
It can actually be harder for someone to keep it simple.
Though some people take it too far, like one Troll hunter named “One” with a pet named “Two”
Reminds me of ‘The Phantom Flasher’ by Trubuck (Youtube).
I’m a veteran - have more than three decades under my belt - when it comes to tabletop RP, both as DM and player, and the one thing I’ve learned, the Name is alway the first!
Always
Many belives, first you crate the charater, the backstory, the whole enchilada, concept, fine detials and name? That is not important, you have time.
This is wrong. Name comes first. No matter how awesome the whole thing in your head, you will never be able to name it. You can give it a name, of course, but the feeling will be always there, something is not right something is missing.
This is true to WoW characters to
You could spend hours on the charater costuzmization, or writing stories, without a name? You will struggle
So take my advice: Find the name first!
Name is the most important thing, everything comes after, it is the foundation of your chracter, gives it a personality, gives you ideas, it is the frame of who will she or he or it will be!
If you have the name, the rest will come by themselves; the Name is like the seed of a planet, it attracts ideas in the empty space of your head, first small ones, basic things, like “is this eye colour is an Adam West”? “What race would be perfect?” “Body tpye, he sounds like a tall, lean guy…” and so on, then will came the complex things, as the character’s “gravity” grows with it ‘mass’ and attracts more and more, untill you ends up with a real Personality
RP, writing, anything involving a character creation or world building…
Name comes first!
Most of my names are made up many years ago. These days if I really need a new name i just be creative and not overthink it all too much anymore
My character name from FFXIV actually
Char Cinderval.
Now i just use Cinder and then something behind it.
I just love how the word “cinder” sounds.
My warlocks succubus is called Nazwyn, so I stole that.
Hab SoSlI’ Quch!
I actually used to run an Integrity Klingon deck on ST:CCG 2E. Fun times. Also, do you happen to have a character named Korbus? Probably my favorite NPC from ST:BC. Okay, maybe close second, after Captain Macwhatshisname of the USS Geronimo.
As for my own process, whenever I don’t use my main internet alias, I generally follow these steps:
-
Agonise for dozens of minutes, even hours over the name, overthinking it.
-
Ask friends, acquaintances
-
Agonise some more
-
Disregard everything, choose a usually punny or silly name on a whim.
And that’s how I ended up with my mage’s name meaning “butt” (but more vulgar, screw you, censors) in a fictional language from Star Wars.
Cue my surprise when migrating to Thekal with the guild, finding out the name was already taken!
So I renamed the character to “smartarse” barring the apostrophe that I can’t use per Actiblizzard regulations.
P’takh!
No I dont actually. I do so wanted Kang and Kor, but no joy. Koloth is one I’ve reserved but not leveled yet.
Many of the names i use are characters from games from my childhood.
Showing my age now, The phantom Raspberry Blower of old London town jumped to mind.
(70’s kids will know)
