How do you feel wow compares to other mmo's on the market currently?

Dropped ff14 because the game has turned into absolute garbage with the devs not caring about it in the slightest.

Tried some GW2 but the game feels so aimless and is full to the brim with pay2convenience garbage, daily chores and massive grinds.

Played classic wow and while it is largely enjoyable its also something I have played many many times before and outside of making alts or farming gold there really isnt much to do outside of logging in to raid twice a week.

I quit retail after playing DF for a couple of months, main reason was just getting burnt out on the game at the time. Has anyone else been in a similar situation where they have tried other mmo’s and gone back to wow, what did you think

ITS almost the same for here in retail too.
lets be honest the MMos are not good like they used to be .

find something better. a game or a new thing or anything new that is worth your time

maybe later they make wow better - or maybe some new game comes out and kills all of these . lets see what will happen

I didn’t like FF but I have friends who play it and enjoy it. I’ve tried several times but it’s just not for me.

I enjoy Retail myself and the pace, and am not a big fan of Classic which is slow and clunky in comparison. Others prefer it. It’s a case of finding what you like.

I try other MMOs and always end up back here.

I started on EQ2 and that was very good and very difficult. I quit because all the players left for WoW. :grinning:
WoW was much easier then (crafting system :scream_cat:) but it has evolved a lot. It became more ‘complicated’, perhaps too complicated for some.
I did not try other MMO’s except briefly GW2.
Anyway, it all up to you what you like or not.

Only WoW exists. Nothing else matters.

Plenty other of MMOs out there have better ideas than WoW.
Sometimes, they execute those ideas better than WoW. Guild Wars 2 is an obvious example.

But none of this matters because class design and combat in WoW is unmatched. Nothing else comes close. So even though these games all have great ideas, I’m not staying because my character is the vessel through which I experience these various systems and features and it’s not as fun to control there as it is here.

Favorably.

Blizzard has the stronger brand, the premium product, and the better Live Service component.

WoW is the Coca-Cola of MMORPGs.

But MMORPGs are very tribalistic and increasingly inaccessible to new audiences, so the people who play WoW will always only play WoW, and the people who play GW2 will always only play GW2, and the people who play…
It’s a stagnant if not declining genre.

Idk I tried final fantasy a few years ago, realized its engine was not suitable for PvP and left.

PvP wise I don’t think WoW has any competitors hence my alternatives are not other mmos but games like League of Legends, Counter Strike.

PvE wise there is mythic+ and raids with varying difficulties basically offers wide variety of options to all players.

World of Warcraft’s problem is story, marketing. Each year they continue to make it more and more childish while WoW has an aging population, average age is more or less 28 imo for this game.

TL,dr : WoW is the best mmorpg still if you can ignore story and everything, it has the best PvP and PvE.

I’ve tried ESO twice, couldn’t get into it.

I’ve tried Lost Ark, couldn’t get into it.

Classic is incredibly boring.

GW2 is the only other MMO that managed to hold me for a good while but eventually, I ran out of things to do there and also I considered my characer stuck in a bad build so I went back here.

So as much as I might complain about Retail, it is the only MMO I play consistently. But even that seems to be reaching its limits. The seasonal system is losing its allure for me and there isn’t much else going for the game tbh.

WoW is easy to pick up with friends for a month before everyone quits again, it being just a season game and nothing else these days hurt it.

GW2 is similar to wow, it has some insane grind instead of seasons but most of them are collections that are stories and you only have to do them once and the reward is shared among every character on your account but at the same time it burns you out quickly so you end up quitting.

FF14 is still top 3 worst games ive ever played and thats all i have to share on that.

Runescape is another game thats quite chill but also has some insane grinds but because 99% of it you can do solo it ends up being less of an MMO and more of a personal story with other people on the screen.

Almost every MMO is different but i do believe that out of the ones i listed only GW2 and runescape would be successful if they launched today and not just retaining players of old with FOMO and nostalgia.

I first tried gw2 and didn’t stick with it much, but then gave it another try and love it. 5v5 pvp is my fav there, but I also enjoy open world content. About pay for quality of life items, the game literally showers you with gold for everything you do, literally everything. I don’t farm and play casually and got with gold already many items after converting it to gems (and still have 1k gold right now… played 400 hours)
Not sure what chores you are talking about, as you can choose your own goals and just do it. WoW compared feels just lifeless, not sure how you see wow retail with their ilvl increase every 2 months, isn’t that a chore you can’t even avoid? After turbo boost I decided to stop playing, but also, the quality of the game is really bad now. After gw2 you can see more clearly how bad wow is right now

People who say that gw2 is easy, just don’t really know how to play, the classes are complex and way harder than wow

I think GW2 has a lot of class complexity but its also incredibly easy to just lock yourself into a bad build and be out of resources and thus unable to course correct. I spent all my gold gearing my warrior only to learn that warrior is a useless class.

As a warrior main this feels accurate yet hurtful.

I wished WildStar still alive. But they shutdown.

Once I played GW2 long ago. But I dont like it since dont have flying mount and weird mount abilities.

ESO seem fine. But horse look weird and shop are too greedy.

I’m still play FF14. But Dawntrail boring and burn out. Feel every same end grind. Nothing new.

Now WoW got more fun and interested items since DF and TWW.

The thing is that MMORPGs in general are going out of fashion

I first went with ranger and I found it very boring, but I did recover gold very easily, wizard vault has good value and you can craft legendary and sell with WV as well…

They have flying mount, I unlocked mine very fast with soto

The amount of times ive made a legendary for profit only to be wearing it 3 minutes later.

Oh yeah, the gear is so amazing in gw2, I use dye all the time, and it just feels amazing to have such system… and legendaries are actually legendaries compared to some slop in wow

Yes, but we’re talking years ago.
Tried many different MMORPGs but none had the staying power of WoW.
The ones that lasted me a few years were SWTOR and The Secret World.
