How do you guys enjoy classic levelling?

Seriously, I was kinda hyped to check out classic but my enthusiasm waned around 30 lvl… it’s so mindnumbing and soulcrushing to play… I get it must be slower, OK, but quests are super boring… poorly designed… there’s nothing immersive in that I have to kill 6 harpies X, 6 harpies Y and 7 harpies Y where Y spawns 1/20 etc… the game is designed to waste as much time while doing as little as possible.

The game isn’t “hard”… it’s boring… There isn’t really much challenge except for being able to pay enough attention while doing your 2 button rotation.

Sure, you can die… the only exciting part is that you don’t steamroll but at the same time running back while dead is such a pain…

I don’t know if I’m gonna level up to 60… I guess the game isn’t for me. I wish they introduced itemization style, professions being useful and talent trees to retail but apart from those there’s not much to miss from classic…

“Apart from the core of the game and main aspects of an rpg in an mmorpg there’s not much to miss from classic.”

I prefer having the feeling of progress for my character over flashy quests and scenarios any day.

Why people are so obsessed with rotations?

One of the things I disliked about BFA, when I tried it a couple weeks before Classic launch (hadn’t played since WotLK) was how many damn abilities I had for use in combat.

Even as a ret (which, in my mind, was always supposed to be a simple/straightforward DPS class), I had Crusader Strike, Judgment, another Holy Power generating ability whose name I don’t remember, Divine Storm, etc. Like, what the hell?

If anything, one thing I like about Classic is that, for most classes, you don’t need more than 1-3 skills as far as basic, single-target DPS is concerned.

To me it gets super boring when I spend a long amount of time playing solo. However, I tend to mix it up with some pvp with RL friends, so it keeps it fresh. But yes, I agree, just leveling on your own is super boring

what aspects of mmorpg are you talking about?

It require A LOT of time and effort to reach 60 but that sweet feeling when you finally ding 60 is amazing. And then you can start farming preraid bis and do world pvp and raids and stuff.

The boring parts of the game makes the fun parts so much more fun.

Start dungeon leveling, then. Then you’ll be worrying about threat, keeping an eye on healer mana, managing your threat radius so you don’t pull in more mobs and dealing with enemies that are actually quite 'ard.

Currently at lvl 55, i only farm do like 3 to 4 aoe pulls and then screw it logoff and play other games.

Leveling is braindead after a while, only someone with patience can do it over and over.

Mate, I played enh shaman, I TANKED as enh shaman several dungeons so far, it’s super easy, there’s no thinking included… even if someone pulls aggro on one npc, they wont die. dunno what you about

Between 40 and 45 it is too slow outside of those levels it is fine for me.

This is my second char and I got mount at 40 on both chars.

You said you got to 30. Which class? Did you do quests? Dungeons? Both?

Turning opinions into ‘this is objectively bad design’ makes it seem like perhaps you would’ve said these things about the game before you started playing. Did you want to enjoy the game? If you’re for example a warrior, ya the game is pretty rough until 40.

Edit: Sorry just saw your prev msg about being a sham. It’s a shame you felt this way. Imo levelling is the most enjoyable part of the game, and it’s an absolute blast to deal with difficult quests and party up as required. Not to mention wpvp, mmmm

Lucky you. You must be getting good groups, I’ve seen a fair few tanks wipe due to mismanaging pulls.

Hey man, vanilla WoW is not for everyone and that’s fine!!

How do we enjoy leveling you ask? Why some people like chocolate ice cream, while others prefer lemon? It’s a simple matter of taste…

Honestly the levelling was some of the most fun I’ve had in a video game for a long time. Hard to describe why exactly, but there’s nothing quite like it in modern games that are designed around instant gratification. More like a slow satisfying burn. Might even level up an alt after I gear up my warrior.

I love it.

Obviously difficulty is more about situational awareness and planning than combat itself, but killing mobs in a simple manner is still engaging enough for me even when it can get mechanical, kinda like playing Tetris.

I also liked 1-60 Cataclysm (combat was more interesting and many of the new quests were more elaborated), even though it destroyed a world I liked very much; I only thought it was a pity one would level up so quickly there was no “time” to finish quests in a given area.

Crafting professions are useful, it’s just you don’t craft more than a few items with the exception of enchanting and alchemy; in fact they are more useful in Vanilla than in later expansions.

With gear it’s normal because if every few players of a certain armor type one is a crafter, they’ll make at most that many items. That’s why some people have suggested in the past that things like reforging should have been done by crafters and not NPCs (or transmog, but that would’ve been even more complicated for practical reasons). Jewelcrafting went in that direction in a sense but the profession was entirely out of control mainly through TBC and WotLK because it was very poorly designed (and now I don’t even know what it is).

The things I like about classic leveling are also the things I hate.

How different the leveling method is on a bunch of classes, the way I leveled up my warlock does not work on my warrior and neither can AoE grind like a mage. I think that makes the leveling pretty interesting every time, but also frustrating as hell when you can’t kill a mob 3 levels above you when you’re used to soloing elite quests.

If you’re after full Immersion, then surely you’ll be playing on an RP server, reading the quest texts fully, eager to help all the people around Azeroth who are looking for a hero like you to help them out.

Sure, Classic quests can get repetitive, but nearly every game out there uses similar logic and repetitive events/tasks that need to be completed by the player in order to achieve something.

Err what?!? Maybe try a different profession? Gather materials to make gold, make armor or weapons for your character and to sell, create potions to buff yourself during your adventures and to also sell. Fish and cook in order to create yourself food, feed pets, give buffs etc. How are professions not useful?

Wow - and you’ve gotten to level 55 already from this? And now complaining that you get bored from killing the same thing over and over when there’s a whole wealth of quests and dungeons to do as well.

Classic clearly isn’t for you. There’s no shame in this, you just obviously prefer the super-fast, super-linear, super-convenient BFA style where everything is within 100 yards of each other, mobs die if you just glance at them and a big, shiny arrow tells you exactly where to go.

Fortunately you can have all this right now in BFA. Knock yourself out. Back to BFA you go…

Bye bye, and have lots of fun. Bon voyage, toodlepip cheerio.

… Good. One less tourist to clog up the servers.

I enjoy Classic leveling as much as I enjoyed it on Vanilla WoW back then and on private servers later. If you don’t like it, why not just rush to 60 and check out endgame content?
