How do you name alt's?

Hi! I want to create alts later but my name is unavailable on all the good realms. Im thinking about names all the day but I cant find one… Im really angry lol. So I ask you guys. How do you name alts? I want a similar name to Milii or smth. that has Milii in it. Any ideas? Thank u very much! (going to create a paladin)

I don’t like it but people tend to use accents.

My own alts are Luanfu, Luannfu, Luanfuu etc :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

You could go for some misspelling that reads the same maybe, but if you absolutely need “milii” in the name you can also put something before or after it. Like idk Miliina.

I start with a sound I like and try work around it.
So if you’re working with “milii” then you’ll want to work around a name that has that “mili” sound.

Lore characters and traditional race names are good sources of inspiration too.

Miliia

Maybe even opting for an e over an i so like Milie.

I just type every commonword till I get the green checkmark, like my shaman Fab or my paladin Saints

Well it possibly gets harder if you’re set on having all your characters have similar names. I have a decided main, this one. And another warlock I named Ivygloom.
All my other alts are mostly on the same server and have wildly varying names. A paladin called Pallytrix (a sassy belf with shoulderlength blonde hair), a goblin hunter called Shemhazai (which was an esper in FFXII) A highmountain tauren druid called Moonaña ('I’ll do it to-moo-rrow) My first alt, a tauren shaman called Grimmalda simply because I had no fantasy and was relatively new to Azeroth and just looked for tauren-fitting names and got to grim-something.
My blood dk troll is called Faizamon, Faiza means succesful/victorious/beneficial in Arabic, which I found randomly, and mon because she’s a troll, mon!
All my characters have their own … well… character. And each play differenty. So they get their own unique names.
And I’m not opposed to using accents, as shown by my orc mage called Rìka, the name of my late grandmother and also my own baptized name (I had no choice as a tiny baby)

Etc.

Tellenis, Valenwe, Salenwe, Valendwe, Caedhras, Maedhral - all NE, all created by playing around with NE names in lore, mixing up syllables till I had names that sounded right (to me)

names are just names, find something cool and compatible with your alt’s race.
and avoid accents and strings of Is and Ls

Every Alt is a different character with a different name and a different identiy.
I try and make names fit the Character.

Rabies the Magnificent, Worgen Hunter
Athiran the Mad, Nightelf Demonhunter
Barrolt the Summoner, Undead Demonology Warlock
Brunn The Nameless , Dark Iron Dwarf Blood Deathknight
Mr Binkles the Mechagnome WArrior

Each with their own unique identity

All my characters are named after beers, and there are more than 4k beers worldwide, so I don’t really have problem with that.

I simply use local names - native to my own language.

I name them

  1. Based on either characters from my former fantasy novel project: Garana, Rithnu, Alurhea, Anzufer, Diefrin, Nitaya, Iradria, Gondahir
  2. Based on characters from WoW private servers I played in or other game characters I had: Sunbursts, Kethana, Moyra, Senoira, Sentenia, Dreadgarana
  3. Names that I liked at that I liked at a certain point in time: Nolnu, Starlilac, Starweaver, Khanna, Irenna (this one I really like now).

So, unlike many people, I don’t stick to one name and create characters with a variation. I like my characters to have their own names.

I wanted my name to be Sumu but it was unavailable on this realm I rerolled on so I just picked something close. All my alts are named after Sumu+suffixes from Finnish such as Sumutar, Sumutin etc. I am really lazy at naming toons.
