I am asking because I don’t know. How can you beat a frost mage if every single thing he does puts a 90% snare on you?
And if you by some miracle manage to get into melee range, you get frozen and stunned by that ring around them.
So how??
Survival can fight them at range. Feral and Assassination can do 80% of their damage while logged off assuming they get three seconds of uptime to apply bleeds/poisons first. UHDK walks at them with total impunity while doing most of its damage at 30 yards via DoTs/pets/Death Coil. Ret also does a lot of its damage at range now.
The others have to think about their mobility usage and take advantage of the windows that they do get.
Feral and assa can dot, and mage can block it off. Job done.
Not saying there is no way to beat them, but it seems super imbalanced, when a melee has to use every bit of mobility perfectly, while mage only has to worry about bursting, since all the cc is just free applied from the burst spells.
I mean if they’re having to Block off DoTs then you’re already in the driver’s seat.
It’s not like they’re untouchable, people have just gotten too used to having 110% uptime on anything with a cast bar and have forgotten how to mete out their own mobility tools when they can’t passively lock something out of the game at all times.
PvP is by design meant to be a back and forth exchange. Finding your opportunities to connect on and threaten a Frost Mage as a melee is no different to a Warlock or Shadow Priest having to find their opportunities to counter-pressure while they have someone welded to their head and pinning them down with micro-CC and interrupts.
Which on its own is fine. The problem is them being able to also do 800k dps while doing so and force all kicks on cc spam etc
lol not true, focusing mage as feral is a waste of time, and normal bleeds without burst wont do anything, and if he is playing the normal blink he can also blink your stun setup
- ice shield, bleeds alone does nothing if u have still bad uptime
good frost mages are close to be untouchable.
Yes. And just staying in melee range will cause you to get auto stunned. If you could shut down that snowdrift thing somehow it would help. There is no picking your moment if the mage can do full burst that also ccs.
You don’t.
You pray you live long enough so the game goes deep enough into dampening and the guy has no ice blocks and no trinket and you get to stun and do enough damage to the point healing does nothing anymore OR your ranged teammate (hope you got one) finishes him off.
So the short answer is, you can’t.
2x Ice block is an outdated mechanic which becomes too bloated for arenas considering how broken mage cc and mobility is compared to when it was introduced many years ago.
The nerf to Mass Dispel’s CD and cast time also removed 1 “counter” to those ice blocks.
Good that there are spells like freedom…… oh wait can’t use that vs mage.
You shatter the ice-block and win.
Yah lol… frost mage seems really over the top right now. I suppose my best bet is to level one and learn from how other melees take me down.
But I do suspect that for something like a warrior, a 1v1 vs a frost mage is more or less unwinnable.
If the mage is fairly mehh i find no issues murdering them as warrior. a good mage will beat a good warrior anyday but a bad warrior will murder a bad mage without really using cds as the warrior will rip the arms off the mage if the mage makes any mistakes.
That being said its one of the most frustrating matchups there is. The whole concept of being endlessly kited is not a fun experience. I would mind it an awfully lot less if the mages actually had to hardcast. It makes no sense to me how the most mobile caster is also the caster that actually casts the least. To me it would make more sense if classes that cant actually kite like lock, spriest etc had more instants n mage created gaps to hardcast. Even after the nerfs the icelance spam is endless.
Thats actually completely opposite. Mage’s anti-melee kit is so strong nowadays that sometimes they can make even multiple mistakes and still win vs warrior/most melee.
The combination of multiple blinks/crowd control/alter time/2 blocks/knockback AND instant casts on top of that is more than enough to give you enough room to missplay and still always have something left in your pocket.
With this control mages have they should do way less dmg to make it fair if they ain’t gonna prune their OP toolkit abit.
I main sub and feral.
And on both its quite the challenge.
Especially in open world pvp where they can use the terrain among other things.
No idea about arms i dont play that at all as i find it way too slow phased but as fury i murder bad frost mages, its not even close. good ones on the other hand i dont stand a chance against n literarelly cant play the game at all.
Yes they have all those tools but bad players missuse those tools or react too slowly, as fury i have a ton of frontloaded damage n mages are still relatively squishy if you make contact with them.
Not a good feeling overall. I think alter time is the most frustrating garbage about them though overall. If they severely nerfed icelance n buffed frostbolt so they´re actually forced to use their mobility to deal damage as opposed to using their mobility for godmode while not sacrificing any damage in return it would feel alot less frustrating to play against.
I dont even think they deal too much damage, i just think their damage is too easy to throw around mindlessly due to how their entire dmg profile is tied to instant casts. The built in spam root should be removed aswell though, its really not needed at all.
Overall id say i find spriest more frustrating to play against than mage atm. i can chunk mages if i catch them where as spriest i have virtually 100% uptime n their healthbar still isnt moving.
As feral you keep constant bleeds, pre ursol his blinks and sit in bear form while you unable to reach him, also spam moonfire before you jump to have full rip on him instantly.
Also you can meld-stealth(or even incarn stealth) and run away when he alter time.
As DH you use evasive action and with double glimpse you trying to catch DB and nova, healing with souls from blood moon and sigils. When he use alter time you try to dispel, if not you imprison+fear, use pre darkness if you gonna get stunned. The hunt and meta only for closing distance, never for damage.
That’s the only classes I play, dont know how hard it can be for arms…
As Assa with enough pillar space and playing like a chicken I think you can win. Without a pillar, I think the mage should never lose with the CD of alter time being what it is and the current stealth bugs.
Pray to your god that the mage disconnects and that you will reach him before he gets back.
Read what i wrote one more time. Also im not entering a discussion with you. Im not dealing with your frustrated teenager behaviours. Have a good day.
