How I got my [Whirlwind Axe], a loveletter to WoW Classic

Long post inc, skip to end if you cba reading it (also please don’t mind my English, it’s not native for me):

Be me: gnome warrior lvl 30

Just got the Berserker Stance quest and I’m OMW to the Island in the Barrens. I arrive there and another 30 warrior is starting the quest, we group up and do it together. We then decide to move on and go for the Axe (we both are not prepared for it)! But first wait, some people in general need help to summon! We stop by Ratchet to help (and we receive some silver as a payment).

While on the boat to BB I read up some stuff about requirements and we decide to head to STV. We kill some trolls but, after some World PVP and many wipes due to the fact that the Trolls are 35+ and tightly packed we decide to stop, not worth it.

Be me next day: gnome warrior lvl 33

I decide that it’s time to go for it once more. Back to STV I met with a random Priest and kill some Trolls together, we are soon joined by a Mage and go on grinding, PVPing and questing for a bit, sharing each other quests and kills. I am done with STV so I thank them, they buff me and I move on to Arathi (2:00 AM). I buy most mats from the AH since I know these elementals are too high level but I miss the 8 Cresting Charm. I still decide to head to Arathi and give it a shot. Insta-wipe. Once I recover my body I see a 38 warr incoming. I ask him if he can help me out farming the charms there and he agrees. Once again we are soon joined by a third warrior. We run in circles killing elementals for 1h while helping each other meeting the 8 charms requirement. We’re finally done and we part ways, they still need other elementals.

Be me few moments later: gnome warrior lvl 34

I turn in the quest and ding! Time for Cyclonian! I try alone and, guess what, I insta-wipe. Once I recover my body a 31 paladin and a 30 warlock approach me. They say they know why I’m there and they know how hype that Axe is so, out of the blue, they ask if they can help! I’m stocked! I go to start the event. While heading back with the troll I see a 33 rogue killing turtles on the river. I rush to him and ask in /say if he has a minute for help. We all 3 (+1 out of the party) charge the elite and … we all wipe.

I don’t want to lose them time so I say “thanks guys, we tried”. They instead insist that we can do it, we group the rogue and we manage to kill him for good! I’m super hyped to have the [Whirlwind Axe] at 34! 15 seconds later 1 of the warriors I was farming charms with appears, he is now on the final step too. So I ask the other 3 players if they can stop for another minute and help him too. We do, we kill it again, we all cheer and we part ways (it’s now 4:30 AM).

This is one of the short personal stories of what World of Warcraft was and what World of Warcraft is, finally, once more.

Semi TL:DR

I renewed BfA after 2+ years of stop from WoW 4 months before Classic to calm the hype, leveled this DH to 120 playing alone, 0 chats, 0 buffs, 0 interactions even at max level. World PVP only for ganking when flagged. LFG/LFR was mute. It was a really sad and depressing experience.

I’m now level 41 and counting in Classic … I’m probably exaggerating a bit but I feel like I’ve met / helped / engaged with more people in these 8 days of Classic than in 12 years post Vanilla, especially after the end of Wrath, when WoW turned into a single-player+ game.

I’ve found friendly people all over the place, buff spreading on sight, group invite for quests, elite-killing, dungeon chatting and sharing materials (pots, drinks, foods, rolls on crates/chests) world PVPing and, darn, even dueling with the opposite faction and stopping at 1% instead of delivering the final blow.

Real TL:DR

Thank you Blizzard (and expecially the few devs that believed on the project) from the bottom of my heart for releasing Classic. You are now kinda-forgiven for killing my whole guild (and imho dealing the first of the many death-blows to WoW) with the release of TBC. The real WoW is now back and I’m super happy, I’m experiencing one the best gaming-related-periods of my life

Congratz mate. Got mine at 35. Farmed trolls at 30 grouping with some mage who farmed them for necklaces quest.
Could buy all the charms on ah only at 35, as there were not that many people in 30s at the time and still less knew that any warrior wished them badly. So i bought them almost one by one.
Once i had them all half an hour of lfg spam and we did it in group of 4 warriors and a druid for healing. Killed him twice for me and another warrior, all the others just agreed to help and druid who took most time to find came even from barrens.

Glad to hear you’re having a good time. You know what they say…
Give a man a fish and he can eat for a day. Give a man a whirlwind axe and he can cleave everything in half for a lifetime.

You will never find one of these whinging, moaning retailers in great threads like these that show what the spirit of classic is all about.

Great to hear dude! Sounds like you’re almost having as much fun as I am
