I remember i was once told here that when over 50 Chromie wont talk me anymore but i can still play old expansions, yet not getting XP. So, how i do it now? Without Chromie? All those beautiful and epic story lines just lost?
click on the traking icon near mini map and click trivial quests, then just look for quest icon on map
You could also save them for alts, it’s what I do. I take a look at my achievement list and look at the zones I haven’t completed fully yet and then do them. The old world (Eastern Kingdom/Kalimdor) quests somehow typically manage to make me more engaged in the story, even without flashy cinematics and voice acting. There are some real gems hidden in there.
Back then Blizzard had
- way better writers
- a focus on the important things like worldbuilding and both big and small stories
Its always on. How i play old expansion? Usually, in MMORPG’s, i dont have alts. I have to create one in WOW just to play old expansions?
Just physically go there. It’ll be low level but you can complete it.
Simple check your post history and re read the answer’s given.
“Just physically go there.”
Without Chromie? Or are all those quests still existing in retail version? How can all those so different story lines and eras co-exist?
This all is still very confusing to me. What happened all those old expansion story lines? Are they still playable without Chromie time?
Re reading answers makes it event more confusing. Some people suggest Chromie (alt character), some suggest turn on trivial quest tracker (which i have on), some say that all those quests already exist within game.
Yes they are. Some zones might have had changes made to them, in which case you’ll need to open up your map in that particular zone and head towards a speech bubble, which will be a NPC that can take you “back” in time to the old zone. That is where you’ll be able to do the quests. Note that not every zone requires you to go back in time or whatever, there’s just certain exceptions, like tanaris or darkshore.
I’ll admit it’s pretty confusing. But Blizzard, for whatever reason, is not a big fan of players doing old content, they just want you to see the new stuff. So they make you jump through a couple of hoops here and there to see them. But essentially, all you need to understand is this: certain zones have had story developments in later expansions, and will thus exist in a different “phase”. In these cases, refer to what I said earlier about time traveling.
Same answers will be given here as in your last topic about same thing.
thank you!
It was as confusing there, in older thread, and this was about Zidormi who did not answer to me at Arathi Highlands… Some said i must lvl 50. I did, and yet she did not talk to me. Then it got even more confusing as it appeared i still needed some requirements.
You CAN,
but much better, you should MAKE A NEW CHARACTER for each expansion.
Choose different races and classes. Choose to level in the home of each race you choose, rather than Exile’s reach.
Level to 10 with each character. Then, when you hit 10, go to Chromie near Stormwind Lake, and choose the expansion you want to do that alt on.
Each expansion will neatly level one character from 10 to 50, and it will be much more engaging than tearingthrough on a high-level - and at the end, you will have lots of alts, and learned much more about the classes and races!
The old expansion’s quests are still there, as suggested earlier you just need to travel to relevant area to do them i.e. enter dark portal in Blasted Lands to go to Outland or grab a boat from stormwind harbor to sail to Northrend. There are breadcrumbs quests in Stormwind city which lead you to all expansions. And please don’t ask for consistency or common sense in wow storyline, it that department there is significant shortage (it always was that way). But soundtrack and visuals of old content is worth seeing that’s for sure.
Recurring topic, my recurring wish is Chromie time extending to 50, maybe 60 even.
Well, no.
Actually, yes. On your first character you likely won’t be aware of how to be a completionist (as a matter of fact, it doesn’t involve Chromie time, but frequent XP locking) and the game funnels you towards the current expansion, mostly to please veterans but also nitpicky customers (“I purchased WoD, I want to play WoD, not gated by some crappy old content”).
While I was a fairly happy completionist during WLK - and we even had people with 100% achievements, very crazy people! - I don’t think it’s really workable anymore, with 9 full sets of content. Thus I also recommend to try out new classes and play each expansion that seems nice, you can even choose thematically fitting ones. If you lock XP at 49, you can also remain in Chromie time and switch timelines.
I don’t think 50 is required for Chromie time, there may be some big popup that doesn’t show for new accounts but my highest was this but I could walk up to Chromie on several characters and just select a timeline. Have a 50 mage since, booted from Outland
You are Level 50. In the normal game before they introduced Chromie time, most if not all quests that you seek will have turned grey and given little if any reward. They would also only appear on the mini map if activate the show trivial quest feature. So in truth after level 50 the game reverts back to how it was. Never forget that Chromie is only a facility to activate scaling up to 50 so that you scale to characters in all expansions. Once you get to 50 the game reverts to the current expansion assuming you will venture there at say 48.
There is nothing to stop you doing any quest in a game. Chromie is only there to facilitate scaling and nothing else. I sense you want to make a point about the older expansions and the loss of them as a normal progression from 1 to 50. What you have to imagine is that if you take a flat A4 piece of paper and draw vertical lines splitting the paper into equal portions for each of the expansions. Now fold the paper along each line until you have just one portion of the paper visible… then that is the current game. All the other portions still exist but you truly only need one to get to 50. That is why some suggest you create different characters for each expansion.
You can still fold the paper out like a concertina and play all the other portions but you will be doing it in the grey. So do the grey quests for the fun of it and fill in with some Pet Tamers and Archaeology along the way to make your XP. They still pay well enough to level you to 60. But in not doing the main expansion you fail to attain the campaign story quests needed to progress. There is too much content in Warcraft to make levelling sensible any more. Its been squished so that players don’t go bonkers with the multitude of quests to do.
In Tera years ago they abandoned the normal quests and made players only do Story Quests. In Final Fantasy online you are advised only to do the important story quests and totally ignore the normal quests. Bonkers I know but otherwise the content just gets way too much to cope with. The games still let you do your own thing as WoW does, but seriously it is not advisable.
Some of the zones do require you to talk to the nice lady, like in Blasted, to reveal the map at different times. By doing so in Blasted you can either see the original map and do your Pet Battles and Arch without the invasion or go to the portal with it changed and start WoD. They made sure they retained most of the original, BUT, never forget most of the original kingdoms got changed at Cata, and with each patch they have chosen to remove quest chains. Like a lot for Alliance in Arathi. No amount of Chromie time warping will bring any of that back. You need to play Classic.
Me, I don’t do quests. I gave up after they introduced achievements that are account bound. I do do quests on other chars but its fun not doing any for the challenge. You could always try that to 60.
How do you unlock the Allied races achivements, mounts and transmogg if you don’t make alts?
