How many buttons?

Nothing new to WoW, but many people are complaining about button bloat on a lot of classes like Enh Shaman, Arms Warrior, Outlaw Rogue, etc.

Personally I enjoy a lot 3 button rotation for ST like Sub Rogue or Demo Warlock, 2 buttons for AoE (builder/spender), 1-2 mid cooldowns (20 to 40 seconds), and 2 big cooldowns (2min+).

What’s the perfect amount of buttons for you?

Back in SL Guardian’s Thrash was on GCD while in Incarn and gave an absorb shield via the legendary. So it was a 1 button rotation, that was the best time for me.

I’d love a nice rotation consisting of 2-3 for aoe and the same for single target. The CD’s can be one for 30s, one for 60s and 1-2 for 3mins

Monk has alot of abilities in the rotation.

But it does not feel like a lot, Since they have cooldowns, Are proccs or special requirements.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7
E Y R Q V G H T F X Z

thats it for me. The rest of the stuff I click.

It’s not my main, but my fury warrior feels perfect to me, with 4 or so main abilities to spam, a proc or two and execute, plus 3 or 4 CD attacks in addition to the longer CD’s.

I use 8 keyboard buttons (1-4, Q, E, R and F), for my main attack abilities, 4 buttons on my mouse for pummel, taunt, impending victory and execute, and a 6 button action bar close by for long CD’s. That’s enough to be interesting, but not overwhelming.

It’s more about keybind bloat for me. Buttons you can macro together depending on stance or stealth or whatever are fine.

Maximum 30 buttons. Some as low as 20.

But what’s most important is that the buttons have unique uses and aren’t just an endless list of cooldowns designed to make your class be a challenge in and of itself. To me, the important part here is to make sure that all abilities have a place in the context of fighting the enemy. They should be answers to what my opponent does, not answers to my own procs and weird internal CD’s. I don’t want to Frozen Orb in single target, I don’t want to spam Ice Lance while standing still, I don’t want Glacial Spike I just want a good Frostbolt, I don’t want Icy Veins and Water Elemental rolled into one, I don’t want all these “hero tree” procs. I don’t want to be able to cast on the move.

I want to cast Ice Lance when the boss forces me to move, I want to Frostbolt when allowed to stand still, I want to Orb large groups of mobs, I want to Blizzard to control the movement of large groups of enemies, I want cone of cold to quickly get enemies off me or to take the risk of running close to a large group of enemies to hit them with a big AoE - not to reset other AoE and cause them to shatter. I want them to be available at a whim though having their own execution challenges, like a cast time or close range or similar.

I don’t want to be using Mirror Images or Invisibility to reduce damage taken. These already have their own roles and uses based on their own more obvious effects.

I like “Diablo Immortal” and “Diablo 4” for that reason.
Its 4-5 buttons and you can play with a controller.

How the hek do you press 7? Are you sure you’re not an irl lizzard? :scream_cat:

Three fingers of your left hand over the 3-4 buttons. Stretching back to 1-2 or 6-7 doesn’t become a major issue after that.
Just like the home keys for touch typing.

How I work with my casters.

But I do agree, there are a lot of buttons again.

I lied :stuck_out_tongue: I also have “8” key to press.
My fingers are long.
As I said in another thread, Im 193 cm and my fingers, feet and other stuff are longer than normal.

Omg, I used to play piano and guitar and even I couldn’t reach those keys comfortably or consistently! Though I suppose boys would have bigger hands than us girls, but still!! :scream_cat:

Why not use shift modifiers? You’d open up a lot more options for yourself?

I do feel your pain. Reaching anything beyond 7 is a bit of a pain for me. I move my hand, then miss hitting my “home keys” when I move back. Always makes things interesting when you press the wrong spell button and have that moment of panic wondering what the hell you did wrong.

When I get home I will show you my binds, I suppose I have some interesting ones too. Namely, I use F1-F4 :see_no_evil:
BUT in my defense, I am a druid and we have a billion buttons and macros!

body type 1 please

We sure do! And yet we are at the bottom of the lists…
