“Main” means “hand” in French, so you can only have two at a time, unless you were born with a deformity.

For a more specific. Non French answer. I’d say 2 max on this expat with a decent play time. But it all depends on your play time really. I manage one. I have totally given up on my other char.

It also is heavily dependant on what you do mate. Do you like lots of chars with lower ilvl. Do you want to raid end game. Do you want to PvP. Are you very very causal?

All result in different answers.

Depends on how much you play and how you define being up to date.

But in general I’d say it’s definitely possible. Once you caught up there’s only 2 weekly quests to keep up with renown. And even if you fall behind catching back up is not a big deal.

Other than that there’s only really unlocking the vault options that you probably wanna do. So you have to split your time for that between the different characters.

If you aim for the maximum vault choices you might have a tough time. But if you can settle for a few less choices there should be no problem.

Also if you’re new don’t worry too much about falling behind. There are enough systems to allow you to catch up, if you should fall behind. If you feel like you haven’t really found your class yet just try different ones until you find one you enjoy.

You can only have one main… rest are twinks

Honestly i have struggled this expansion to get a proper main after i got my paladin geared up fully with heroic gear i switched to dk got him half heroic and then switched to DH, the DH will remain my main now, but taking care of 3 chars at once is difficult, depending how much free time you have and how much you like to do things. It’s possible but tiersome.

u can have 2 mains u play 2 at same time u play one with left hand and other with right

You can have multiple characters you can deem as your “Main” providing you have the time to gear them all, time is key to how many alts you can proficiently gear up.

If your an amazing cross character pvper as many as you can hit 1.8k rating quickly on…if you don’t pvp…eh 1 xD 2 if you are a glutton for punishment

I’m playing two mains this expansion, they’re both at very similar power levels, both progress and gear wise. I don’t raid, and I don’t PvP, apart from some random open world WM banter here and there, but BGs and arenas are something I’m not actively participating in.

I’m finding it fairly easy to keep both toons at the level I want them to be: they can both time keys in the 14-15 range, on good (non-tyrannical) weeks I have no problem getting 10+ keys done, and on bad weeks, I still find it easy to do 4 for two options. Both are Appreciative with Ve’nari, both have enough Stygia for 3 sockets (but only bought one so far on each, because I don’t have other items in the right slots worth socketing just yet, and those secondaries aren’t holding me back anyway).

I do this while playing half as much as I did in BfA, where I had a single main. If I played as much as I did in BfA, I could easily have a third main on horde side too. If I went for 4 keys a week on my existing mains, I could also spend the time free’d up to have a third, but… I’m enjoying my current two, so see no reason for another.

2 is easily possible, 3 requires some effort beyond the normal, 4+ is for more hardcore players imo

Depends on your available time and commitment.

Some people’s main is behind my alt. Other people’s alts are ahead of my main.

But realistically, everyone has one character that’s better than the others. Sure, the alts might be “viable” but if your guild is doing mythic progression, you’ll be taking the strongest one. That’s your main right there. The others are alts.

Or perhaps they don’t. My DH and my druid are at very similar levels. My druid used to be a tiny bit ahead for a time (both gear and progress wise), then my DH overtook the druid first in gear, then in progress. Now my druid is slightly ahead again. Chances are, though, that my DH will overtake the druid in gear very soon, perhaps in progress too (the DH has a +16 timed, the druid does not, but the druid has KSM, while the DH doesn’t, yet, probably will next week). They’re both mains, I play them pretty much equally.

I do Torghast wings faster on the druid (yay stealth), but I did Twisting Corridors on my DH (yay tankiness). I run similar amounts of keys each week, both toons have other players I regularly run with. They both do callings, they both do weeklies, and so on and so forth.

The only thing my DH is behind on in any meaningful way compared to my druid, is sanctum upgrades. That’s because I don’t care about the Kyrian anima conductor and path of ascension. I don’t use the conductor or the garden on Fae either, but I’m unlocking them, because I like Fae, and want to make my Queen happy. Couldn’t care less about the Kyrians, so I only unlocked what I use.

With that name warrior is your only choice.

By very definition you can only have one main.

In BFA you could since you could gear a char through m+ within a few days.
Now gearing revolves around great vault, which is really bad for “main alts”.

You generally get stuck at 200 ilvl or so.

But only in France. Outside of it you can only have 1 main.

Main is the main character you play, by that definition, you can have only one, the rest are alts.

I have two characters at 218/216, respectively, doing similar keys, in similar amounts, while playing half as much as I did in BfA. :woman_shrugging:

They’re both my mains.

What if I play two characters equally? Same /played, same gear level, same progress. A main is a character you do most content with. If you do most content on two characters, you have two mains.

Alts are characters of lesser importance. If N characters are equally important, that’s N mains.

well and you had to farm essence ranks which prior to late 9.3 took weeks, you had to farm azerite gear also to be competitive which could take several weeks depending on RNG, and then in 9.3 you also had to grind like CRAZY to

  1. farm currency to level up alts cloak
  2. farm corruptions for all your items

so there was that.
