I don’t care about the poorly developed characters or the nonsensical story in the slightest. There is some fun lore, but not much.
For me, it’s similar to some others I read in this thread. Peaked in Wrath, went downhill, made a bit of a comeback in Legion, went downhill again, then got a bit better in DF and TWW, but not back to the level of Wrath.
I only enjoyed the Broken Shore intro at the start of the expansion.
For the first time since Deathwing actually did something and destroyed parts of the world, the game felt like a real threat was at our doorstep.
And then nothing. The “endless armies” of the Legion did nothing.
They were mostly absent from the main Broken Isle storylines, and they never left the Broken Isles at all.
Nothing noteworthy happened during the actual Legion expansion.
I only play wow. Aint got time for anything else with job + 3 kids and a wife
I find watching cinematics fun even tho i dont know much about what is going on storywise. I love some WoW characters such as Sylvanas, Jaina, Tyrande etc.
More than story, lore and characters, I care about classes tho. I wish we had so many class options to choose from. I would be okay having 50-60 classes with 2-3-4 specs each. There will always be class balance issues anyway. They would just need to make bigger team for class balances but at the end of day Azeroth would be more colorful with so many class options, different ways to enjoy Azeroth!

I may not always like everything they do but I enjoy most of it.
Any examples of things you’ve enjoyed the most and the least lately?
How’s swtor these days? I have played it in years.
8, I always care about lore, characters and story for any game I play.
assuming there is such a thing in the game.
9/10; it’s the world my characters live in, after all.
Before BfA I didn’t care much (played since the end of BC), but BfA and SL with the leveling campaigns made me finally interested in the lore, which improved my general enjoyment of the game. DF was incredibly boring after SL, but TWW is a bit better again so far.
Stopped caring after wotlk so 1/10. Probably never will since blizzard really want to appeal to the “modern audience” nowadays instead of creating something enjoyable.
I’ve watched you AFK shadowmelded for many years on that very character. So fluid so cool.
I care…ish. I try to read every quest and I do but its all lost on me. Every now and then a little quest line will touch me buts its usually a side quest that has no bearing on actual lore. BUT I TRY. HELP.
10/10.
I don’t care if it’s good or makes sense nor do I care to learn every aspect of it. I only care that proper context is provided. If they decided to stop putting effort into that stuff I’d be gone.
“The light does not abandon its champions”
Crusader Bridenbrad, Admiral Taylor, the ghosts of the family buried on the outskirts of Dustwallow Marsh. As with my own advance into my second half-century, the game is more a formality than an experience at this point, but I still remember vividly those early years when everything was new, exciting and terrifying. The comfort of the familiar has it’s charms as you get older.
I used to care alot but now it’s a 1/10 sadly. The Horde lore won’t get better so I stick to RP in Stormwind and doing season 1 dailys.
1/10 on current expansions.
When i was leveling i did some Legion and BfA. I liked the story on those expacs.
But dragonflight and TWW is too sterilized and safe. Like a disney story. So i have no interest.
Its sad because WoW lore in general is pretty cool.
10! I really enjoy exploring the storylines and getting to know the characters, allies or villains.
I remember going to Scholomance for the first time and doing the quest that the ghosts outside give you… Dr Theolen Krastinov is still my “favourite” character, in a twisted way - learning the dark family history was a lot of fun!
Alonsus, the guy in the priest class hall was also quite fun to talk to. Or Uther and Arthas’ story, too… And there are many other examples, where NPCs take you through a story line, main or side, that’s just super cool and feels like reading a good book. For me, the game would be less without these.
I’m guessing a lot of the quest text is now AI generated, though… you can tell the style is too uniform, and lacks the “good book” feeling that I mentioned. I have the impression the writing was a lot more genuine and authentic early on.
Shadowlands killed the lore for me.
Been a bit scared of getting too attached to my favorite characters only for them to get retconned into being an evil raid boss.
Most of us seem to agree that Shadowlands permanently damaged the lore.
- never cared about story or lore
