How much time does pre-raid gearing up take compared to leveling?

Let’s say I will hit 60 lvl in 200 hours.
How much more Ill have to spend to be fully geared up ?
I understand it is difficult to say, but I would like to hear your opinions.
Thanks in advance.

Most of it is down to luck. Average is probably below 24h but then you have people doing hundreds of runs just for a SGC. You should however be farming prebis long before you reach 60.

At least as much as you spent levelling, much more for melee who go for SGC, HoJ and the twin swords. Much much more.

sgc is pretty fast to get as you can do 5 lockouts in under 30 min. The real pain in the a** items are ubrs loot and HoJ.

I guess I was really lucky got painweaver band in 1 run, had trueaim gloves and so on before 60. Probably spent less than 12 hours farming prebis at 60.

He is a healer however so he doesn’t really need any UBRS loot.

I am planning to play either warlock or a hunter.
The question is which one is easier to gear up at 60 lvl - just to be ready for raiding.
Leveling is already a huge problem for me… If I have to spend another 100-200 hours for gear I will most likely give up.

It also depends on what you mean by “pre-raid” gearing up. Will you be raiding? Then it also depends on the guild/group you will be raiding with. Most guilds would have no problems bringing someone who isn’t yet full pre-bis, as long as you are showing efforts to improve your gear. Some guilds may even be willing to bring you with pretty bad gear if they trust you to be in it for the long run.

If you are not planning to raid, and not in a guild it may end up taking as long as leveling up, depending on your luck with finding groups and getting drops.

If you want to raid as either a warlock or a hunter, then go for warlock. They are in much higher demand, and will remain so throughout naxx.

Hunter gearing is easy compared to most classes

If you will settle with the second best in slot on some of the slots you could be able to do it pretty fast. The difference is not significant and the best gear drop rates are abysmal in some cases (like Flameweave Cuffs of Healing and Atal’ai Gloves of Healing with drop rates of fractions of a percent.)

By the time you’ve done all quests in lvl 60 dungeons you probably have most of your BiS gear. Takes maybe few dozen runs in total.

Depends.

If you want to raid with good performance, I’d say maybe in a week without a lot of effort you should replace most of your slots with dungeon stuff and BoEs that are the best or close enough.

If you want the absolute BiS in all slots, I know people who have a ton of epics and still haven’t obtained their favourite trinket from BRD or UBRS.

The difference between the first and second case is much smaller than the impact of not using even the cheapest enchants, having the wrong spec or not bothering to learn what abilities you should use to perform optimally. PvE is moderately easy, but good players in greens tend to beat misinformed/lazy players in blues by a large margin.
