How to improve FPS?

Hey there,
I am playing on a Thinkpad T430 laptop.
2.5 GHz with 3.2 turbo boost
8gb ram
Intel HD4000
On max resolution (1600x900) and settings on 3 my fps is around 35 with rare drops below 30, sometimes 40+, but most of the times around 35.

I dont plan on lowering the resolution, that sucks, I have most of the fancy settings turned off. With the FPS I have im happy, dont really need anything more. However I plan on buying a 24’’ monitor, basically going up the resolution scale, meaning FPS will drop… what to do now?
Keep playing on the laptop or buy a 1440p monitor (because hd4000 supports 2560x1440)?
Drivers are up to date, everything except wow is turned off, laptop is in performance mode and thats what I get. More tips are welcome by the way.
Buying a new machine is not an option at the moment.
Really frustrated with the decision.
Thanks in advance.

did you unlock the FPS in Advanced options?

Yes, i get rare spikes to 55 fps in lonely caves.

i didnt realise you could do this, thanks for the info.

Today I logged in and kept steady 40+fps… weird.
Still not sure if I should buy a fancy monitor.
Dumb question tho - can a 1440p monitor look good at 1080p?

Even though the game is old, It’s still a 3D game, and those Integrated Intel graphic cards are horrible at 3D game performance. So basically your only options is to lower your graph settings (I assume they are already lowest possible) and to lower resolution.

Something that you can do for intel processors is to search up ‘Graphics Settings’ and use the menu to search for the wow classic launcher and find it in your files. After doing that select options and then allocate ‘high performance’ to the wow classic icon.

It won’t triple your performance or anything but it really is worth doing for a good 20fps increase

I cant find such an option in the graphics menu?
Anyone with more direct instructions?
Thanks in advance!

I have 800 fps with my 144hz 2k 27" monitor,

My specs are:
i9-9900k
2080ti
16 GB @3200

I just wanted to flex, I don’t have a solution

are you sure its graphics? wow is cpu heavy, you need to check cpu usage too,try to clear up core usage,I think classic is single core (gpu usage),no multithreaded optimizations

So you are saying you are playing on a 1080p 27" or 2048x1536 monitor then

Made some weird discovery.
I get 20 more FPS when in windowed mode.
Pretty ugly though.
To me this means the machine can handle it, but what makes such a difference? How to ‘‘fix’’ it?

AOC AG271QX / 27" 1440p 144 hz

So, basically on a 1.5k monitor as in with the old terms. It’s called 2k for better sales. A “4k” monitor is actually a 2k monitor with the old terms and so on.

1920x1080 = “a 1080p/full HD” monitor
2560x1440 = “a 2k monitor”
3840x2060 = “a 4k monitor”

They made it sound like the monitor would have a higher pixel density than it actually does.

There is borderless windowed mode you can try if it gives you such a boost.

But your problem is that you’re trying to game on a laptop, especially with integrated GPU that is mostly made to browse internet and play videos. You’re much better off buying a proper, even low end, PC than a new monitor and it would cost roughly the same.

If that is not an option, you can at least try to clean the insides of the laptop as it is usually littered with dust, heats up and throttles.

Is an eGPU + monitor a good option?
Any cheap-ish eGPU’s for a T430?

The OP cannot afford a new computer. With just 200 euros, a computer some 10x more powerful could be bought, so if that can’t be done, I doubt eGPU is an easier investment

I have an iMac with 5K resolution, and even it runs WoW in classic settings at 60 FPS constantly at 5120x2880. Even the fan doesn’t spin, so it isn’t even having a hard time, taking into account the GPU is nothing to boast about.

Just comes to show how devastatingly poor integrated GPUs are, especially the older ones like what the OP has.

I have no advice, other than trying to save some dough and buy a cheap new computer. I don’t think there is another route. You’re just making yourself miserable if you buy a monitor and see how sucky the FPS is there too.

I am the OP, just changed char name.

To me, its not about affording, its a question of should I?
I have a pretty stressfull job and I play like 2-3 hours whenever I can after work.
I dont plan on being a hardcore gamer and buying a separate setup just for wow seems just not necessery. I try to work with what I got and im okay with it. Just looking for free to really cheap ways to max out its potential. Thats it.
If I had more free time I wouldnt hesitate to pull out couple of grand for a beast, but now just not worth it.

The human eye can’t detect more than 24fps so having more than that is simply useless.

That’s not true.
It’s a myth thats been going around for ages, but it’s proved its not true.
For real, looking at a 60fps video on youtube, dont you feel it smoother than a regular one?
