How to keep Classic/TBC and WOTLK alive at the same time - read up Blizz

You launching one game and within that game you have base (vanila) and access to TBC and WOTLK which is like WOTLK works now, you can go back to TBC and Vanilla areas.

However

When you enter TBC, Vanilla or WOTLK area you will automatically load that character profile and all patches associated with it. So for example as a 72 mage when you enter Classic you will load lvl 60 profile of that character, with gear, gold, items and evertyhing else you earned there; exact same way like Classic vanilla works now.

This way we keep whole community in one place who can enjoy entire game the way they like doing things they like without need of launching different games.

And to all of you saying about some tech limitations to that or servers; we got 2023 for christ sake. Everything can be done.

Each game version is an isolated standalone software, where game client, servers and DBs are bound each other and do not have backwards compatibilty.

It is impossible, as far as the game is designed and developed, to swap between game clients and DB on runtime.

What you’re proposing here is to have a super-game-wrapper that eventually, whenever you change any area, will do the following:

  1. Logout from the current game client.
  2. Stop game client.
  3. Run new game client.
  4. Automatically login with your character.

Not only it will imply a really large loading times between area changes, but also will potentially expose security risks.

Wasn’t that called cloning and is not available?

No need for that. Just incorporate character profiles in the game. Again its 2023 not 2006. Something along the lines of character selection screen where you load different char profile.

Again I’m not tech guy but there are solutions there.

Yes, the solution is here and it is called Classic Era and Wrath of the Lich King Classic clients. Adding TBC Era would negatively impact both abovementioned versions playerbases and not even last as long as Classic Era does.
